My statement is far from cavalier conjecture. It is based on literature and my own extensive experience with cancer patients that have gone through long-term extensive chemotherapy..........enough in those samplings of strong muscled males. Anything is possible, but especially in the case of an NFL Olineman whose strength must be constantly pitted against the strong of the strong, it ultimately becomes more of an unrealistic than realistic outcome. With that said, I still hope that he can find his way to the active roster for at least 1 play, so that he can attain what I am sure has been almost a life-long dream..........and I hope that this is what the Texans are thinking.

Houston Texans Waive Akeem Hunt To Open Up Roster Spot

To8 make room for new Houston Texans wide receiver the Houston Texans have waived running back Akeem Hunt. The Texans were carrying more than enough running backs when they initially set the 53-man roster.

With the Texans moving on from Hunt, they will carry Lamar Miller, D’Onta Foreman, Alfred Blue, Tyler Ervin, Jordan Todman and Jay Prosch into the season. There are injury concerns with Foreman and Blue but the Texans moving on from Hunt makes it seem they could be healthy when week one arrives.

In his Texans career Hunt has appears in in 15 games the past two seasons rushing for 205 yards while catching 9 passes for 68 yards. He also chipped in on special teams in coverage and the return game.


Man they should've kept Hunt.

I'd have felt better if that third QB was Weeden. He's been here three years, looked aiight.

Heck, Billy might put Savage on IR if he has a paper cut. Might not take us all that long to get to the third QB.


Not that I mind going with two QBs. Just saying, if we did get to the third QB.

But we knew cuts were going to be tough. The RBs we want are all hurt. So that's three bodies that may not have made the team orherwise... Dare Ogbuglea, Toddman, & Prosh
 
A day after being waived by the Oakland Raiders, undrafted rookie LB LaTroy Lewis has been picked up by the Texans. He played in every preseason game...........12 combined tackles and 3 sacks. The Raiders were counting on him passing waivers and ending up on their PS.

Lewis originally signed a three-year deal ($1,665,000) with the Raiders the beginning of May. In his freshman year, he suffered an ACL rupture. In four seasons with the Volunteers, he accumulated 77 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and 12 tackles for loss.....with just 10 starts in his five years at Tennessee .

What I believe is extra painful to fans is that Oakland's GM Reggie McKenzie was a Volunteers player that played most of his 7 year NFL career as an ILB for the Raiders. He had long-term plans for Lewis as reflected by his immediate 3-year contract offer. The fans feel that McKenzie screwed up big time. Sounds like player with great potential. Now we might have to worry if any of the Raiders ILBs go down in the regular season.
 
Hunt had a hammy but with Blue and Foreman injured I thought he'd make it. Ervin needs to bring it especially on returns and even then when Todman plays he might get nod.

Just the ACL his freshman year. His low starts were a result of him coming from a small high school in Ohio, and was not recruited highly by the recruiting guru Volunteers HC Butch Jones who already had great defensive talent. He was actually considered a 3 star top 35 DE in the country. But a big criticism of Jones was that he would recruit high, whether the player fit the scheme or not. Lewis, in spite of not being recruited highly by the Volunteers as a weak side defensive end, did not fit the scheme well and that is why he was poorly utilized. When he did get playing time, he produced well.
 
This young man may be coming onto the roster sooner than later. Again, I would be paranoid that the Raiders may try to find a way to put him on their 53 before we do.

WHO IS LATROY LEWIS?


At 6’3” and 254lbs, it isn’t his physical skills that got him signed. So, what clues were there that Lewis had the ability to reach this level of performance?

His Intelligence
Team mate Kendal Vickers is on film as saying that Lewis is the smartest player on the Tennessee defense. “I actually think LaTroy is the smartest person on the team when it comes to scheme and techniques,” he says. “He’ll call out the plays before they even happen. That helps me a lot.”

Intelligence, and the ability to read what an offense is doing, is a critical benefit at the NFL level. With everything moving faster than college, rookies with the intelligence to process what is going on quickly will have crucial extra time. Whilst some players can get away simply by being physically stronger than the rest of their college opposition, that isn’t true at an NFL level (or rarely true anyway). Players who have the intellect to read the game quicker have a clear advantage.

His Flexibility
Reggie McKensie seems to value players who have the ability to play multiple positions, particularly in his second and third stringers. The ability to cover at multiple positions is a skills that the Raiders have prized under McKensie. Lewis can certainly do this as he played outside linebacker, defensive end and defensive tackle during his time with the Vols. In fact, despite being just 250lbs, Lewis had one of his best college games playing defensive tackle against Kentucky.

At that weight, it would be unlikely he’d be able to play tackle in the NFL, but his understanding of different positions, and ability to play with his hands in the dirt or stood up probably plays in his favour.

His Character
Despite not even been a full-time starter, Lewis played an active role in representing Tennessee on and off the field of play. In the first episode of Hard Knocks, Dirk Koetter talks about leaders not just being the first teamers. Lewis gives the impression of being that kind of character. He’s the sort of player who is active in his community, as you can see from his work with his organization Project Elevate. He seems like a high-character guy, a good team-mate who isn’t looking for personal glory. Putting the team ahead of yourself helps. It might help him make the final 53. The Rest of the Story

I don't get why hunt and Ervin are constantly compared. They are both smaller speedy type players, but hunt has been a better runner and Ervin's skillset is more geared toward receiving.

Hunt got beat out by Miller, Blue, Foreman and Toddman. Ervin has been more likely to catch a pass than take a handoff.

Don't see anything about Texans finding O-line gem in the Thousand Man Cut. Surely there were some O-line guys that could have improved our Turnstile?

My thoughts exactly. Ervin is a better receiver and offers much more versatility than Hunt. My only question is will BOB utilize that versatility, or will he call run plays for Ervin through the A gap?

You do realize Ricky doesn't want to improve the OL this yr and because of this the OL will be bad (Again) and BOB will be gone.

Then we will get to see what Ricky's guy Watson is all about.

You do realize our OL was better than most last year. Definitely not the best, but turnstile is a bit of an exaggeration. The coaches, who have more say on player selection than on most teams, like Kendall Lamm. A project they believe is ready to start.

We also brought in Giacomini, while not a household name he's been solid when healthy.

& we've got two more (Davenport & Fuller) in the pipeline.

Don't forget Martin, he's new as well and possibly our best lineman already.

Hmm? Somehow with all the talk about fixing the O-line in last year's draft, I guess I was imagining our O-line was ranked like 28th in the league or something. That's some distance from better than most, isn't it?

PFF ranked the Texans OL at 18th.....that's not "better than most"............but better than many.:)

I said it was PFF that ranked our OL 15th in run blocking & 12th in pass blocking, which is where I got "better than most" from. It was actually football outsiders who ranked us as such, not PFF. My bad.
