**Official Cut Day Thread**

This list will continue to evolve over the next few days, but at the moment, here’s a division-by-division look at the quarterback depth charts:
There's not enough NFL-level QBs to put 3 on every roster. I don't even think there are enough to put 2 on each roster.

If I ever get down on the Texans QB situation, I'll look at this list and feel better.

Majority of the league going with just two quarterbacks
Posted by Darin Gantt on September 3, 2017, 8:45 AM EDT

At a time when everyone agrees there aren’t nearly enough quarterbacks to go around, most of the NFL has decided to only bother with two at a time.

After initial cuts yesterday, 19 teams stuck with just two quarterbacks, though that’s going to change in the next few days.

For instance, the Broncos are about to go to three, as soon as Brock Osweiler’s transaction is processed and he joins Trevor Siemian and the injured Paxton Lynch. And the Rams (Dan Orlovsky) and Chargers (Kellen Clemens) are expected to bring a third quarterback back in soon as well.

There are at least two teams carrying injured quarterbacks on their initial 53 who will likely go on the injured reserve/designated for return list later today (Cincinnati’s Jeff Driskel and Tampa Bay’s Ryan Griffin), and they’ll join the list of teams keeping a pair.

The Vikings will likely go back to three at some point after or if Teddy Bridgewater returns from the physically unable to perform list at some point after the first six weeks.

And then there are the poor Colts, who have four on the roster at the moment, and they may hang a banner for having the most quarterbacks of any team in the league since they hang them for everything else. [:spit:]

This list will continue to evolve over the next few days, but at the moment, here’s a division-by-division look at the quarterback depth charts:

Bills: Tyrod Taylor, Nathan Peterman, T.J. Yates.
Dolphins: Jay Cutler, Matt Moore.
Patriots: Tom Brady, Jimmy Garoppolo
Jets: Josh McCown, Bryce Petty, Christian Hackenberg.

Texans: Tom Savage, Deshaun Watson.
Colts: Andrew Luck, Scott Tolzien, Jacoby Brissett, Stephen Morris.
Jaguars: Blake Bortles, Chad Henne, Brandon Allen.
Titans: Marcus Mariota, Matt Cassel.

Broncos: Trevor Siemian, Paxton Lynch.
Chiefs: Alex Smith, Patrick Mahomes, Tyler Bray.
Chargers: Philip Rivers, Cardale Jones.
Raiders: Derek Carr, Connor Cook, EJ Manuel.

Cowboys: Dak Prescott, Cooper Rush.
Giants: Eli Manning, Geno Smith, Davis Webb.
Eagles: Carson Wentz, Nick Foles.
Washington: Kirk Cousins, Colt McCoy.

Need to update the list Doc.

Broncos signed Os to one year minimum deal: "I'm sure with everything he went through in Houston and then going to Cleveland, I'm sure he's going to need a little football rehab," Elway said. "We know that. We'll welcome him with open arms and give him some love."

Is this serious?

Are we really complaining about Weeden not making the cut? Most teams that are settled at QB only carry two.

We're not more concerned that we're playing the first game of the season with only three WRs?

In the event that we even need Weeden this year then the season is lost. And he'll either be on the couch waiting by the phone or some other fringe QB with no less talent than him will be brought in.

What exactly do you guys think Weeden is?

For me, the question is not that teams carry only two on the 53 active squad. It's the questionable decision not to carry a third QB on the PS.

Notice how many ex-Texans are on other teams. Even Schaub is still hanging on.

I still think it likely we sign a third QB for the PS.

Is anyone complaining. I think it's mostly commenting. And it's not the decision to carry only two on the active squad; but rather signing and carrying a third QB on the PS.

If it comes down to the end of the season, and it's us or the Titans; and we need a win at Indy; and both Savage and Watson are unavailable - you just throw up your hands and give up, claiming the season is lost?

Maybe asking a 2nd time will work...

You notice many PS QBs starting games? It's just shy of does not happen. Now there are lots of couch QBs who get pulled up each year. Guys who actually made 53s before, even started.

Who gives you a better chance to win? - a Case Keenum, TJ Yates or Joe Schlockenburger?

Let's make week one roster decisions based on the probability of that week 17 scenario lol.

If that occurs you call Weeden and he cuts his fishing trip short and comes to practice.

The Broncos need another QB.

I agree with the bolded part. But given the Texans history, we'll end up with a QB on the team that isn't on it now, and for any number of reasons. I don't see any way that the Texans go through this entire season without bringing on another QB at some point.
Here is to hoping they can change history.

Have any stats for Joe? :club:

I wasn't commenting on roster decisions. I was commenting on your absolute comment that the season is lost if we have to play a third QB.

I never said we throw up our hands and give up.

If we burn through Savage and Watson and are forced to play a third QB then I don't think the season will end well. That better?

And I don't think keeping Weeden on the roster all year just in case that happens will make it any better.

I doubt if we see Osweiler on the Broncos roster when Lynch returns.

The bigger the game the better Watson plays.
That's "only" been the case during his collegiate career.

FIFY.. Watson hasn't done anything in the NFL yet and until he does you can't call him a big game QB in the NFL.

Do you know how many big game college QBs fell on their collective faces in the NFL?..QBs who were actually considered more clutch? Vince Young for example had two of the best performances in CFB history in his two rose bowl appearances...how did that work out for him in the league?

This isn't college football and frankly I'm getting tired of hearing about his college football career which is now over. This is the NFL which is a entire different beast. He has to prove himself all over again from step 1..just like he had to when he left High School and made the jump to Clemson. So while I hope he becomes the QB we all want him to be and can lock up the position for the next 13-15 years. I'm not going to sit here and claim that "the bigger the game is the bigger he plays" or act like he's a big game QB, because he hasn't proven anything yet at this level and I haven't seen it. To me he's a rookie with alot of physical tools and unrealized potential, nothing more, nothing less.

Did BOB and Bob and Ricky call you to let you know they have absolutely decided not to sign a QB to the practice squad? How else do you know, since there are no players signed to any teams practice squad yet. Even if they do sign someone to the practice squad they are not protected. Once a practice squad actually exists, any team can sign a player from any teams practice squad.

The only advantage is that he develops familiarity with BOB's schemes - but 80% of the marginal / crappy QBs that will be available have already been Texans in the BOB era.

True, but they just cut a qb that is more familiar with their current scheme and looked pretty good in training camp.

But that is the Broncos so why do I care.

You're talking about the UDFA rookie Kyle Sloter?

Osweiler actually had a whole year under Mike McCoy in Denver.

The Broncos might bring the rookie back to the PS

The only thing that makes sense to me is they place Fuller on IR...............something I said needed to happen right after his injury was reported.
If they'd placed him on IR right after his injury, he wouldn't be able to return during the season. Only players placed on IR after 3:00 PM (4:00 PM E.S.T.) today (9/3) are eligible to return during the season. My guess is that Fuller goes on IR at 3:01, and obviously, somebody gets added to the 53 man roster.

I was quite aware of that rule.........I posted it in the Injury thread previously. The quote of mine at the time was in the context of the discussion that he will need to be placed on IR instead of being kept on the roster during the beginning of the regular season (due to the realistic return to play time). And the phrase "right after his injury was reported" was meant to relate to the time that I had the opinion. I can see where the interpretation of my statement could lead to the confusion. :tiphat:

BTW, I agree with you and hope the Texans do place Fuller on IR until he can return designated in Oct, and open up a very needed space

The Texans announced nine players they have signed to their practice squad.

I wonder if the Texans place Hunt on the PS..............and later possibly bring him back to the roster if needed in the future.

Bayless reminds me of Owen Daniels.
Bryce could work his way to active roster.
McCarron is the dream.
Dare will be called upon sometime during season because of injury.
President is purely developmental.
Not quitting on Quessenberry.
Ross special teams.
Slade has shot because OL not yet set.
Thompson also special teams.

Pretty decent group really.

No QBs on the practice squad? Oh well. See, here's what's going to happen. Game morning sometime QB1 (either of them) gets checked into the hospital for a bad stomach flu. On the 3rd offensive play of the game QB2 twists his ankle in an awkward pile up behind the line. At that point we don't have anyone that's even been practicing handoffs.

And after thinking about this, that would be really interesting to see it happen to the OTHER team. LOL
