The Actual and Real 2017 Texans Talk Mock Draft Extravaganza

I'm gonna shut down the football for the day boys. If yall get through 20 picks and it comes to me give me best available DT / 3-4 DE or RT. I really doubt yall get through 20 picks before the morning, but I also thought the same yesterday and got hit with a phantom trade and missed my pick.

Sorry to do this but I threw together a bit of a lazy list earlier when busy. I'll change this pick here because nobody has selected after it.

Seahawks take Nathan Peterman, QB, Pittsburgh.

Boykin has had some issues with the law and he's their only backup QB that I can see. I doubt the Seahawks are sold on him and Wilson has had the injury bug of late.

You may have just broke all the Peterman fanboys hearts

I don't know if those fanboys are in this mock. Peterman was the 6th QB selected and everyone passed multiple times.

Yea, I was very surprised by that. I think late 3rd is good value for Peterman and I expect him to go somewhere in the 2nd, which probably is determined by what kind of run there is on QBs in the 1st-early 2nd round.

Every team I've seen him (Peterman) mocked to is in understudy or future role. Mostly winners with established franchise QB's already in place. Doesn't fit Texans mold, might as well be PeterPan, lol

Saints have gone over. Time to discuss group pick. So far they have...

1) Reuben Foster - LB, Alabama
1) Quincy Wilson - CB, Florida
2) Zay Jones - WR, East Carolina
3) Davon Godchaux - DT, LSU

It looks like their top remaining targets are DE and TE. I think pass rusher is the bigger need so I nominate Daeshon Hall.

Too small for base DE, but could come in as a pass rusher. Very good player at this point, as well.

I like Howard Wilson/Myrick/Anderson

I think Anderson is being very underrated. He reminds me of Brooks Reed.

With that said if the pick were mine, after seeing the Saints CB play last yr my pick would be Wilson. He looked really good last yr, has good size and ran a 4.39 at his pro day.

I think Austins23 works nights and is getting ready for work this time of night. Earlier he said he normally only gets on line after 10:00 so lets do a group pick. But give him the benefit of the doubt.

So the vote total thus far....
Hall - 2
Wilson - 2
Anderson - 1

Need a tiebreaker.

Kansas City selects Isaiah Ford - WR, Virginia Tech

The Chiefs need depth at WR and also insurance for Jeremy Maclin who has struggled staying healthy throughout his career and who has a $13M option next year that KC is unlikely to pick up. Ford reminds me a bit of Jamison Crowder. He is good athlete who can stretch the field as well as a savvy route runner who can use his routes and quickness to create separation underneath. He's also surprisingly productive in contested catch situations for a smaller receiver.

I see Ford as the heir apparent to Maclin on the outside but he can also contribute in the slot when slot-WR Tyreek Hill gets moved around the formation.

:kingkong:How can this be such a great CB/DB class they (Texans) haven't selected one yet, after what 20+? Even after loss of their best, young corner. Just a real head scratcher :headhurts:

Pittsburgh selects Shaquill Griffin - CB, Central Florida

The Steelers have really struggled to address the secondary over the years. They responded by drafting Artie Burns (CB) and Sean Davis (S) with their top picks last year. That trend continues this year with the early additions of Marcus Williams (S) and now Griffin.

Griffin went pretty under the radar on the pre-draft scene until the he broke out at the Combine but he played very well in his 2 years as a starter at UCF. He replaced the departed Jacoby Glenn (UDFA Bears) and almost immediately outperformed him. He's a phenomenal athlete with a great frame and makes a ton of plays on the ball. He's also very good in run support. He's still raw and needs some development but he has the skills to be a factor down the road.

Wow, I had Wilson and Griffin as my next two behind Watkins and they are the only CBs I see worth taking here, maybe even in round 4. Even Wilson and Griffin have some pretty serious deficiencies.

Seahawks take Carlos Watkins, DT, Clemson.

I needed to get a corner for the Seahawks but the amount that were taken before round 4 really surprised me.

There are still a couple of small school CB's that can play and a couple of talented guys that have injury issues. But pickings are getting slim at CB and the 4th rd hasn't even started yet.

Could someone compare Duke Riley to Tyus Boswer?
Anyone feel free to correct me, but I believe they'll play different positions -- Bowser's got 3" and 15 pounds on Riley and will most likely play OLB in a 3-4 with more of a pass rush role. Riley 4-3 Will or 3-4 WILB playing in space.

thanks, your probably right about positions. Seems to me Boswer is more boom or bust while Riley is just a football player that will find a way to contribute, special teams or whatever. Trying to figure out overwhelming majority vote to be Texans 3rd rd. pick.

This mock for Texans is falling strangely short of expectation's or at least my own projection.

Thinking Lamp, Webb then corner.

With pick# 109 in the 2017 Texans Talk Mock Draft, the San Francisco 49ers happily select:

Cooper Kupp - WR, Eastern Washington

At this point in the draft, I worry less about what a player can do, and concentrate on what a player can do. Cooper Kupp cannot run fast. For a NFL WR. Cooper Kupp can do everything else a NFL WR needs to do. Run crisp routes. Catch the ball. Run after the catch. Pickup 1st downs. Score TDs (this one beating Washington's Budda Baker). Kupp will look great in the Niners WCO.
