How about Tony Romo in Houston

At least his retirement almost guarantees the Texans won't be in New England for the 2017 NFL kickoff game! Romo at QB, that's a Networks wet dream. Savage, meh, he'll get us a noon kickoff against Cleveland maybe...
We're going to play New England in 2017. I'd much rather play them in August/September than in December. It's rare that they lose after Thanksgiving. & we usually need those games to win this division.

if they didn't want Romo, it means they actually thought that trading 16M for a second draft pick was worth it, which honestly feels a bit meh, even worse if we don't spend those money in something useful (or at least more useful than a 2nd rounder would be)
More than meh. The only good thing about the Osweiler deal was that it didn't take any draft picks. On top of his struggles last season, losing a 2nd to move him, when we really didn't need to is like a one two kick to the gnads.

Good. Atleast now I feel that there is a chance that we will draft a QB in the first 2 rounds. With Romo, I doubted that we would do that.

This news is probably best for us.

In the long run yes because it forces us to address the QB position with a high pick instead of reaching into the scrap bin for the 6th year in a row.

The fact that we've kicked the can this far down the road though is a travesty.

I hear you but there is no way that matchup is the KICKOFF THURSDAY game...
not with Savage at the helm.

I'm glad it's finally over. Now, we can finally move forward. Have we worked out any of the Big 4 QB's? I know we attended Mahome's & Kinzer's Pro Days. But, have we had a private workout with any of them?

The opening game will be the Super Bowl rematch with the Falcons. Even if the Texans bring Favre out of retirement.
I think it will be the Chiefs at New England. The NFL will give Atlanta the opening Sunday night game at its shiny NEW stadium. My thinking anyway.

Tbh I don't think he is retiring. He could have taken a paycut to be a backup and make more money than he would as a commentator . plus he hated being a backup so he obviously doesn't like watching when he could still play. I think he forced Jerry's hand 100% I am retiring today and taking the cap relief with me or you release me.

I'm opening the smelling salts...there isn't one draftable QB in the 2017 NFL Draft who would supplant Savage or Weeden for the QB1 and QB2 spots on the roster. Jay C and Colin K can keep looking for another team b/c there is no way O'Brien is bringing either of those guys to his camp.

I see a QB getting drafted but if I were calling the shots, I'd trade back and gain a couple of picks to gain a QB to develop later while filling starting holes early.

I really don't know much about Romo personally or professioanl as a TV announcer and I know he was a solid football player but did not have a particularly outstanding career in the NFL or college. So is he getting this job with CBS primarily on the strength of being a former starting QB for the Cowboys ?
