You know all that stuff can be done from anywhere there's internet access right?Didnt see anything relevant or substantial here. I guess we have different expectations for our gm when free agency kicks off. I expect him working phones, working emails, working texts, working sources, working personell meetings with coaches and pro scouts, hell, working smoke signals if it works.
You seem content to see him on some treasure island disney joy ride with a mickey mouse ear hat and face smeared with cotton candy.
Ok

Ok
You make FA sound like a game show where the first to hit the buzzer gets the player. In reality I would guess it's pretty boring just based on other big money corporate deals I've been a part of.
You make your offer to the agent, they counter offer and you bat it back and forth till either you sign the deal or one side decides it's not going to work.
Honestly he could probably take a whole day off and not really miss anything. Players don't suddenly out of the blue become available for FA
and the whole "give us your answer by this time or no deal" really only happens in movies. Yes sometimes it's a surprise that a team lets someone go but even then the player and their agent are going to shop for offers.
We're talking multi-million dollars deals here, those decisions aren't made quickly. Even the deal with the Browns was I promise you hashed out over several days if not weeks, it just seemed sudden because everyone involved kept their mouths shut.
Which leads to another point why do we as fans think they are doing nothing just because they haven't announced what they are doing. Everything they announce to us also gets announced to every other team and agent so if they have a big deal in the works or if a deal fell through I personally would prefer it if they kept it under wraps.
You know all that stuff can be done from anywhere there's internet access right?
Geez....
Jimmy Johnson would disagree with this post. See: Russell Maryland/Kevin Smith draft picks. He told them if they would except deals that the Cowboys proposed he would draft them if not he would move on and draft player X. This also happens in FA.
The reason fans think Ricky is doing nothing could be, (Oh I don't know) because he's done nothing. The only GM in the league who's done nothing to this point in FA.
BTW, To those who say do you expect Ricky to work 24 hrs a day. There have been many days that I've worked 18-20 hrs in a day. Including some recently and some in the future including next Wednesday night. I'm sure you've done the same, there are times to work and times to play. The NFL FA time isn't a time for Ricky to play. Like I said before do you think Caldwell/Robinson/Texas City's own Ballard are off playing around during the FA period? With all of the work they've done the answer appears to be no.
Also these deals that supposedly take forever to get done start taking shpe at the combine and have parameters in place by the time FA starts. I guess the bright side is even though Ricky has done nothing so far, at least the Texans org had their full compliment of leadership at the combine. (Including Cal McNair. LOL) This hasn't always been the case so I guess that's progress if you want to look at the Texans org that way.
There's no denying that the rest of the division has gotten better while Ricky is sitting on his hands.
And you seem to overreact to a man going to one professional basketball game for a few hours. Again we all have lives so stop tripping (over nothing) and let this man live his life. It's not that serious dude.
This has nothing to do with being content. If he wasn't doing his job Brock would still be a Texans right.
It is to Caldwell/Ballard/Robinson.
If you mean trading a 2nd rd pick to clean up the mess you made is working then we have a different definition of work and will probably never agree. Who is this Brock Osweiler guy you speak of? Did he play for Ricky McNair's Houston Texans? Maybe I've mind blocked the Osweiler era.y
I'm the one that said it so direct that to specifically me. I just worked 35 hours straight last week. Had no other choice because we had to get our equipment up and running. But that is not the norm. So why should Rick work 24 hours when he doesn't have to? Yall act like FA is only for one freaking day.
And that notion that Rick hasn't done anything is a bold face fabrication. Jeremy wouldn't be the Texans GM or even working in the NFL if he hasn't done anything. All because the Texans hasn't snatched up a player you wanted doesn't mean RS hasn't done anything up until this point. Didn't he just got rid of Brock and resigned several of our players. Hmmm but he's the only GM that hasn't done nothing to this point huh. Again another fabrication on your behalf.
But hey keep the hate alive.
Why is this consider a mess he created. If Brock and O'Brien doesn't get into a physical altercation, he would still be a Texans. Bwhahaha
Crazy how everyone was celebrating this time last year when the Texans acquired Brock. Even Hopkins was saying finally we have a QB. Great job RA, that a boy. Swinging for the fences and everything. Now we want to say he created this mess. Blah blah blah.
Yes this is considered a part of his job. All party's involved created that hot mess not just Rick freaking Smith.
RS didn't lie and you know damn well the Texans not being more active in FA is a group FAIL decision.

So our front office directed by Rick Smith decided to throw away a major asset, in order to drop a player who could at least be a backup or junk trade fodder - in order to free up cap space we're not going to use?
So our front office directed by Rick Smith decided to throw away a major asset, in order to drop a player who could at least be a backup or junk trade fodder - in order to free up cap space we're not going to use? Hate on Steel being a broken record all you want, but he wins this one.
Never said he lied,
If by group you mean Bob/Ricky/Cal McNair you're probably correct.
BS. They have a plan to use it - Romo. The timing just hasn't suited immediate gratification fans.

Your analogy was to someone lying to their employer.
So you defend their failures as having a plan (an uncertain one), even though that plan is a failure.
When Romo gets to a new team we'll know if it was a failure.
As someone mentioned, probably our best FA offseason was JJo and Manning and that happened late in the offseason.
I'm not commenting on any one move in particular. Just it's too early to declare this offseason a failure. Folks that don't like the Oz trade are in hypercritical mode right now with goofy basketball comments and demands for immediate use of the cap room gained. It's premature and in some instances irrational.

I will repeat, EVERY OTHER NFL team has done SOMETHING in FA.
But people are being too critical of the Texans FO.
With Wade Phillips at the helm and discussions with top tier FA's such as Nnamdi deciding the price structure. I'm really not sure how you can remotely compare the situations.
They'd have 2 huge offseason moves if Dallas had carried through. Now patience is required.
They'd have 2 huge offseason moves if Dallas had carried through. Now patience is required.
So Dallas is now holding the Texans offseason hostage?
Typical Texans. They have $$$$ to make moves AND add Romo. They're choosing not too. Maybe Ricky's time is better spent at the BB game.
I don't have a specific player I wanted him to sign. As much as you don't want to admit it EVERY team in the NFL has signed atleast 1 FA.
What has Ricky done? Speaking of Hate, I don't HATE anybody (No time in ones heart for HATE) I do HATE that you had to work so many hrs straight. You had to step up when your company needed you or you most likely would've been fired. I didn't see Ricky stepping up when it was time for him too. I did notice he went to a BB game.
This would be like you telling your boss you couldn't work those 35 hrs because you were sick and your boss said OK and worked those hrs for you. Then your bosses friend said he saw you hanging out partying at the beach while your boss was working your shift.
That kinda stuff would get you fired, but not little Ricky, he's family.

This offseason is getting really laughable
Again you are overreacting big time. We all know how you truly feel about Rick Smith. The colorful word these days is called hate. Not in the literally speaking either. Meaning we know you don't have hate in your heart for this man. You don't even know the man personally, so why would you literally hate him. But figuratively speaking you thrash the man every chance you get. This man went to one basketball game and you are on here hating on him and for what. They have talked to several FA but unfortunately couldn't come up with a financial agreement. They have signed several of their own FA's. Therefore you are fabricating again because we have signed 3 free agents.
And as far as my job is concerned, I would still have my job if I didn't worked those hours like that.
Rick taking a few hours off, (in which he has a right to) to go to a game was clearly ok with The Main Man Mr. Bob McNair. So why in the world are you making such a big deal out of it. You are not cutting this man a check, lol Mr. McNair is.
Did we have an agreement with Dallas before sacrificing a major asset for a lesser unknown? You're still defending this move as if the 37 year old crippled Romo is a good thing to spend a buttload of money and future asset on when I know damn well you don't - and got lost arguing the point. We didn't sign Simon and Bouye, were they also part of our grand strategy to break the bank for Super Romo?
You're McNair doesn't care. Sign Romo and keep cashing those checks. The fanbase is slowly learning what McNair is all about.
Considering our offseason so far ricky has apparently been at ball games EVERYNIGHT. I suppose as long as he has the internet though who cares right? Ive thought for some time the title of this thread was wrong. We're not on vacation. We're in a comma.
And now we're relegated to waiting on jerry jones to make or break our future? Very smooth kirby.
Imagine 2 months ago someone told you we'd pay a team a 2nd round pick to take our starting quarterback. Imagine 2 months ago someone told you we wouldn't be in charge of our offseason because we'd hand that leverage over to the cowboys. People here wouldve been outraged. But here we are. And mysteriously a bulk of people have bought the gloss. The offseason still has time to improve obviously but right now it's a train wreck. All that glitters is not gold.
The 2017 hostage standoff continues...
BWHAHAHA ok
BTW, another 6% this yr. Thought I would mention that since that's what the McNair's are really all about. Do you know how much the SB winning Pats season tickets are going up next yr? ZERO, the McNairs org is nothing like the Pats org and never will be.
Wouldn't a winning team earn McNair more money?
Wouldn't a winning team earn McNair more money?
BTW the Texans are less than $2 over NFL average at $94.73. The Pats are 2nd most expensive at $130.73.
Yes, that is a glaring hole in steelb's allegations.
