Playoffs...Divisional Round...New England Patriots!

JJ Zachariason ‏@LateRoundQB 5h5 hours ago
Quarterbacks that New England's faced this year and their per drop back rank (min 200 drop backs, 34 total QBs), per @numberFire metrics.

This has become a talking point to somehow diminish the Patriots dominance which is hilarious, because you can go like 4 or 5 years back or even more and the Patriots have been to either the AFC championship or the SB, so this idea that they're not as good as they seem on paper all because of some cherry picked stats from the QB's they've faced is literally comical. As if having an elite QB is the only thing that makes a team pretty good. And there are only like 2 to 4 elite QB's in the league this season, so not many other teams played a ton of elite QB's either.

The Patriots did play a strong schedule as well. They played the Dolphins twice who went 11-5 and was a playoff team. They played the Steelers and the Ravens when the Ravens had been on like a 3 game winning streak and Flacco had been playing the best football he had played all season going into that game. They played the Seahawks and lost where Russell played the best game he played all season. They played the Texans when the Texans were 2-0 and the Texans were favored to win by some going into that game. They also played the Broncos in Denver when their playoff hopes were still alive and Denver was still a really tough team to beat.

They played in 5 games of playoff teams out of 12 in the entire NFL, and didn't even lose one road game all season. Add Baltimore and Denver to that, and what they've done is very impressive. The QB's they've faced wouldn't have made much of a difference especially being that only two games out of the entire season were really even close.

Brock Osweiler is three wins away from having two Super Bowl rings on his hand.
It's the NFL Playoffs. Crazier things have happened before. Let's go win on Saturday Night!

And after we win at Foxborough and at Pittsburgh/Kansas City.
We'll have the home field advantage at NRG Stadium for Super Bowl 51!

Start Savage. Look at it this way, if he is injury prone we will see Brock sooner or later and then Brock will get his chance to throw the ball to the other team.

The only reason I'm pushing Brock is because I know he's starting & we need him to play as well or better than he played against them last year.

I don't think we'd have seen much difference from our QB had Savage started all season.

But if Savage were starting I'd be behind him 100%

I am just being the typical cynical Texan fan.

I have hope but not much. I probably have a lot in common with that kid who says they don't believe in Santa Clause but falls asleep trying to stay up all night trying to see him.

Texans were 14 point road dogs against the Steelers in 2002 and won 24-6 with 47 yards of offense to the Steelers 422.

Texans were 13.5 points road dogs to the Dolphins on opening day 2003 and won 21-20.

Hey, I'm trying to find a ray of hope.

For the Texans to win this game, the football gods would have to smile on Houston.

And the football gods have never smiled on Houston, so why would they start now against their football Adonis?

Adonis was birthed by a tree and killed by a wild boar. He was screwing Aphrodite though, so that couldn't have been to bad.

In any case, that tells us that a wild boar can kill the Patriots. We need to take some of those East Texas wild hogs and turn them lose in the Patriots locker room right before the game.

There's an exception to every rule, and this game is the exception to the above rule.

100 games = 100 losses

You can still root for your team but be realistic about the probable outcome. It's called managing expectations.

For instance, the Texans play the Patriots this weekend. And I'm attracted to Kate Upton.

But, my chances of hooking up with Kate Upton are the same as the Texans against the Patriots. :cowboy1:

Here's to hoping you impregnate the **** out of kate Saturday night.

Yeah, I'm cheering for Osweiler to be our Robert Horry (after he left the Rockets). No more than a solid player with what, 7 rings?

So the QB doesn't matter unless it's Brady?

I never said that the QB doesn't matter. I said that trying to cherry pick a QB list to discredit their team accomplishments is grasping at straws. It doesn't matter how a team wins or what makes them tough to beat. There aren't many elite QB's in the league for most guys to play as it is, and the Patriots have played a pretty strong schedule based on the teams they played.

Well, JJ.

But even that has been ruined as his career is probably destroyed prematurely.

How is it "cherry picking" when the list is of their entire schedule?

I wish this was going to be a closer game, but I just don't see it happening. The uncertainty at QB for your guys, plus your track record against us this year. I am taking the over on the spread.

Now this is the kind of attitude we need. Am I going to have to grab y'all by the collar? You need to have some confidence in the ole' home team. Go team Go..........Go team Go. == Rah Rah Ree, hit'em in the knee. -- Rah Rah Rass, hit'em the other knee.

One game......"track record".......uhhh okay

sorry I said track record... but you know what I mean. You played us this year, against our 3rd string QB, and got dominated. Now we have Brady back.

I'm really looking for a reason this game could be close at all but I just can't find it. Like I said, your QB is bad, offense is overly conservative, and you can't stop us on defense enough to matter. This is one of the most historically lop sided match ups in playoff history.

OK Pat, you talk tough now. See you Sunday morning and we will see who is the tough guy. :) As they say in Golf, this is a gimmee. How can you possible think they can win with Belichick and Brady in the hospital? Yea, the Patriots will..............Ha, Ha, made your heart beat fast.

They already beat you without brady, and their #2 QB. And the #3 QB barely had over 100 yards passing. lol

FOXBORO — Brock Osweiler is such a tease.

The Texans quarterback makes a few throws every game that give him the look of a $72 million passer. Many of the rest, though, might not be worth $72.

That’s what the Patriots’ top-ranked scoring defense will face Saturday night in a divisional playoff matchup at Gillette Stadium. Osweiler is wildly inconsistent, struggles to construct long scoring drives and has a penchant for beating himself.

The Pats are cognizant of Osweiler’s miscues, but they weren’t going to acknowledge that they’ll prepare for anything short of his best.

“We just think about all the stuff that he can do,” defensive tackle Alan Branch said. “He beat us when he was with Denver. He’s a good quarterback. Everybody has their ups and downs. You never know what day someone will be up or down, so we’re expecting his best.”

Osweiler lofted a beautiful 38-yarder down the right sideline to wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins in the Texans’ wild card victory against the Raiders, which was again proof that he is always a throw away from a brilliant moment. There’s no doubt Osweiler has the physical ability to accurately push the team down the field with his intermediate and deep balls.

How many other teams are being criticized for that? Not a single one. If you think the Pats are the only team that hasn't played a ton of elite QB's all year then you might want to look around and watch more games than the Texans. The only arguable elite QB's are Brady, Rodgers,Ryan, and Carr this season. Stafford and Ben were close as well. If you didn't play these teams half the season, then your team didn't either. That's the majority of the NFL. And its cherry picking because its reaching really hard to find one thing that somehow discredits a win instead of respecting the consistency of them winning. Every team doesn't win because they have a great QB. Some win with a great defense and running game. Some teams have a great QB and a great offense but a real weak defense. People say it and imply that they didn't play anyone all season when they actually played a pretty tough schedule.

Yeah, as soon as I think J.J., though, I also think of Earl Campbell and Andre Johnson.

Unfortunately, this city has never had a clutch elite QB in 50+ years. Moon is our claim, but he was far from clutch.

Tough schedule??
Only five teams on their schedule ended up with winning records.

And I never see you get this butt hurt over the Texans

You come across as a bit of a lame troll, if i'm honest.

These Texans fans have been more than welcoming - they know they lost the previous match-up - it's pretty poor form to start bringing the smack against a team/fanbase we have no beef with. Save that for the Jets, Steelers, Broncos and Colts!

PatPatriot: Patriots fans are often considered smug. I think much of that perception by opposing fans is a misinterpretation of well-deserved confidence. You, on the other hand, as evidenced by your recent posts on this forum, really are smug--or perhaps just a troll, in which case you're a smug douchebag.

As a Texan fan and a member of this forum since inception, I have to reluctantly support PatPatriot's position. 740 reported that the spread is currently 17, and I think they said the largest in playoff history. It's certainly one of the largest.

As another member said, to lose won't be a disgrace so long as we play a good game.

But still, our defense is better now than earlier in the season and it is the playoffs.

This is our only hope. That our defense slows Brady down enough to even the playing field a bit. Kinda the way the Texans slowed Rodgers down through three quarters.

They'll need to stay in it for 4 qtrs & our offense will have to play better than they did that day.

I've spent all week trying to talk myself into a way the texans pull this off.

FAIL.......

Just give me a good game texans. Like when Yates took the texans to Baltimore when Schaub went down. I was proud of that loss. They gave them hell

Either we get blown out or this game will be a carbon copy of that one where the defense did everything to get the ball back all game but the offense was absolute trash and we couldn't do anything with it. That and miscues. **** Jacoby Jones.

I'm leaning toward blowout. Honestly might prefer it to a game we "can" win but don't because of our team's failings.

Take all your savings and go to Vegas.
Put the money on the Texans; you will be pulling for them like hell. :ahhaha:

I said in another thread, or maybe implied, that our defense will keep us in the game and give our offense the chance to win it. But to win, we're going to have to win it on the arm of our QB. We have 3 QB's on the roster. All three need to be active. We're going to start Oz. But if he doesn't have it, OB needs to see it and put Savage in. And he shouldn't hesitate to put Weeden in. We need to find the QB who has the "hot hand". The weather is going to be excellent, and Brady will have a Brady game. We're going to have to outscore him and we have to find the QB who can do this. We need to pull out all the stops and not stick with something if it isn't working. OB needs to be quick to recognize this and make adjustments on the fly.

Second the 3 QB thing. All hands on deck. Especially with TS's incline toward injury.

A question: can you actually get 16 points with the Texans in Vegas? Not sure that would be a bad bet.

Sure.
The MGM Mirage Casino even gives you 17.

Go for it. LOL.

I don't think that's the point of posting those stats.

I want to go on record now... I won't be happy if we lose. Whether we lose by 1 or 30, I won't like it one bit.
