yep. While my head uses reason and logic and would not allow me to bet on the Texans in the playoffs (if I was a betting man), I'm not going to lie: in my heart there is hope. Anything can happen. Even if it's just a 1% chance, it's still a chance, and that's what keeps bringing us back as fans year after year.
Fortunately, for all the analysis, props, criticism, etc., of Bob McNair, I do think he is a fan, as well:
Texans’ Bob McNair on winning division title again: ‘The goal is to win it all’
"Well, it [division title/playoffs] is not the goal," McNair said. "The goal is to win it all but this is the first step. If we don't accomplish this, we have no chance. Now it's a new game and we'll have a chance to go after the brass ring and that's what we want to do."
I honestly do not sense any complacency with McNair these days. I think he's an old dude that wants desperately to win a Lombardi. He's got all the money he could want and his franchise is certainly a financial success. But, the one thing he does not have is that extremely hard-to-get silver trophy.
Reading your words, man, I understand where you're coming from as an old Houston pro football fan. Your words come from frustration. And I get it.
But, don't let that frustration steal your joy. Always remember that it's just entertainment. Nothing more, nothing less. As Jerry Seinfeld said,
"we watch and they won". We are mere spectators, and while it does feel good to be a fan of a winning team, I refuse to be defined by it. And after 35-3 almost 24 years ago (next Tuesday, to be exact), I absolutely refuse to let a game that other men play dictate my happiness in life.
So, as I mentioned, even though your head is telling you it's a long shot, let your heart revel in the hope and fun of having a team with a ticket to the dance. Ya' never know, one day our team might get the chance to dance with the pretty girl.
