Hall Of Fame Texans Fan!
On Sunday, August 14th at 6pm, the Texans will take on the 49er's in San Francisco, California at Levi's Stadium.
The game will be aired locally on KTRK ABC 13.
It will be interesting to see how the Texans offense and defense look thus far.
How much control of the offense does Osweiler really have?
How will the offensive line perform in both the running and passing games?
How will all the speed the Texans picked up in the off season gel, find its groove and build that chemistry?
How will the defense preform without JJ in there?
We will only see the 1s maybe 1 or 2 series.
Hopefully we will see promising play from both sides of the ball.
How much will Izzo'so influence improve special teams play?
Who will stand out as the kicker? The steady and dependable veteran Novack? Or the strong legged rookie Fairbairn?
The rest of the game will be about the rookies, 2nd and 3rd year players, and new acquisitions the Texans picked up in the off season. Who will stand out and show they belong on this team?
It's finally here! Texans Football!

LLLLLLET'S GET READY TO RRRRRUMBLLLLLLLLLLLE!!!

8 days before and already a game day thread?
It's not a game day thread. It's a weekly game thread posted the week before they game so we can discuss the game for a week before the game. I'm sure someone already does a game day thread.

Yeah, we always had some type of thread about a week before the game, full of quotes and tweets throughout the week leading up to the game, didn't we?

I'm not sure since I'm pretty new here, but I'm sure someone does both a weekly and game day thread. I do the weekly threads over on the HoustonTexans.com message boards but those boards are acting up badly since admin upgraded the board and the upgrade failed. So I moved over here.

perhaps old age and senility catching up to me.... reckon we just need more threads, this one is missing the poll

Love your Houston Gamblers helmet avatar brother. Very cool.

I really don't take much stock in what happens in a pre season game. Teams don't game plan and they keep things very vanilla so any success or failure doesn't really mean much. I just want the players expected to play a lot this season to come out of pre season healthy and ready to go week 1 vs the Bears.

So far, this is what the starting offinsive line will possibly look like for this game. LT-Clark, LG-XSF, C-Martin, RG-Allen, RT-Lamm.
Only one player that started from last year will be on the starting O-line. Sua'filo. The confidence level can't be too high until we see this almost brand new group perform together.
Let's hope that practicing against the tough Texans defense gave them enough looks to be able to perform at a high level to protect Brock and open up running lanes for the backs.
We shall see.

It would make sense that XSF will get better after actually playing all season. Allen may or may not be an improvement over Brooks, but he definitely won't be a drop off. & "everyone" believes Martin will be an improvement over Ben Jones.

The key is going to be consistency which comes from working together. So the sooner Devlin picks a center, the better.

Martin will start week 1 against the Bears. He's going to be really good there in the middle. The stength of the O-line looks to be in the middle with questions on the outside. How will Clark and Lamm hold up until Brown and Newton return? That's the big question. I think they'll be ok, but we won't know until we see them in action.

Things I will be watching for:

Everything

Seriously though, mainly I'll be watching Brock to see how he looks. Clowney to see how he's progressed. The receivers as a group.

Returners. The kicking competition. I want to see this speed on display.

I want to finally see reshard cliett get some action. Want to see if kjo looks improved. Let's see this fairbairn kicking power. And the dlineman....who looks best suited to play de opposite JJ in base. I also want to see if Hal has gotten better. Really like that guy. And Stephen Anderson. Let's see him work. And the udfa fb. Vainuku.

Oline......Dline (Clowney/Mercilus need to turn it up with Watt out for a bit). If we're good on the lines, we'll be a good team. We've got talented key players, we just need the role players to be successful in their roles. Would love to see good production out of the TEs.

I want to see if/ who safeties stand out in the preseason games. I haven't heard a lot about KJ Dillon, IDK if he's hurt or what, but on the other side of Hal, who will be playing Free Safety, I want a safety that makes stops on the run. And sure-tackling, that was a huge part of last years early half season. I would get so frustrated at the arm tackles, or shoulder bumps. Especially on running backs who aren't in the NFL for getting tackled by arm tacklers. I'm also going to keep my eye on Stephen Anderson, and Cliett. If any of the OLB's stand out tremendously in the preseason, does anything think they will move Clowney to end.

In other words xtruroyaltyx, you'll be watching every Texans player on the roster. Me too.

sleeper here. Nice gameday thread. Keep doing them. Last season this board was pretty lazy getting them out.

That's because our original creator thought the game day threads were Jinxing the Texans. Plus it didn't help with last seasons early comedy show.

Jamtex isn't superstitious. He is the most die-hard Texans fan I know. He took some tough shots last year when the Texans were playing poorly but he never quit on them and was always cordial with those who were trying to land punches.

He's good at this.

I am not doubting him, I was referring these boards here. I haven't spent a lot of time at the official boards. Usually go over there after got through all of the content I wanted to get through here.

And by the way. It's not a game day thread. It's a weekly thread for discussion of the game before the game starts. I always write it the week before the game right after the previous game ends. I've been doing it for years on the HT.com board and you can believe I'll continue it here if you guys will allow me this privilege.

What i'm most looking for is who can step up on the D-Line with Watt out, it has been something we have never had to worry about. Now heading into the regular season it looks like it may happen.

Also want to see who steps up and plays opposite of Hal.

As far as offense goes, we all know who the starters are and with it being pre season you can bet our offense will be about as vanilla as can be. We won't know how good this offense will or will not be until week 1 IMO.

Thanks JamTex, I feel like I'm home... :bravo:

A JamTex weekly thread, now it feels like home. I predict a good game from Savage.

I tried logging in to my account in the other board and it wouldn't budge. Good thing this one worked fine. What the hell happened over there? I go on vacation and come back to crappy site over there.

Not saying that you aren't welcome to start your thread... just pointing out we've had threads like this before. EllisUnit was doing them last season. It's all good... just saying we're not totally unaware of the idea behind these types of threads. People may be calling it a gameday thread, but they know what you're talking about (we'll have game day threads & discuss last week's game threads as well).

Cool. The more to discuss the better.

The tight ends will be interesting to watch.
BO says Fido has improved his route running and pass catching.
We shall see.
Hopefully Griffin got better and stays healthy.
I want to see this kid Anderson and what he can do in blocking as well as his pass catching.
If the Texans can get the tight ends more involved, it will open up even more for the offense.

post when and what you want..if no one likey, they don't have to lookie. My focus in preseason is always on lower end of roster guys and certain positions where starter is shaky or out (Clark). I want to see how Savage and Weeden perform; ILBs behind Bednardrick and Cushing; WRs not named Hopkins; Johnathan Grimes, Devon Still [while Watt out], OLb Tony Washington and safety Kurtis Drummond.

Will Cliett play? I thought he was injured recently...

on safeties, I know Pleasant had very good 2015 but need to see him be same this year and I will root for him. He could leave for free agency if he repeats his stats. I don't see Clowney moving especially since he dropped weight.

We got hoodwinked by the corporate world.

Yeah I could be wrong but think I responded to a poster saying he had gone off the field to locker room for something. Never heard more; I like him so hope he is healthy

It was a concussion, I believe?? IIRC he's in the protocal

Edit:: Nope, I was wrong, Cliett is out due to hamstring "tightness"

It's Covington in the concussion protocal
