Gauging interest in our yearly mock draft. I know it can get bogged down after the first 2 rounds, and then the hardcore are forced to finish 5 rounds for 20 teams. So first we need to decide if we even want to do it this year. Thoughts?

********************************
Some rules and guidelines we have used in the past.

This will be a sign up thread. If you want to play simply post that you do, and select an available team (not the Texans) if you wish. If you don't care what team, then you will randomly be assigned a team from https://www.random.org/ before the draft.

Would need multiple moderators to help.

If you post saying "I'll take the Texans" you will be banished to The No Spin Zone. So don't ask.
********************************
RULES:
NO TRADES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Start: Monday morning 7AM April 4th
Teams: 32
Rounds: 7
CLOCK RULES:
Clock Only runs from 7AM-9PM

Your clock time starts when the team in front of you makes a pick. Unless it was made while the clock is not running. In that case it will start at 7AM of the following weekday morning. You may pick at nights or on weekends if your team is on the clock.

Round (1): 4 hours per pick.
Rounds (2-7): 4 hours per pick.

Night: Clock stops running at 9PM. Picks can still be made.
Morning: Clock starts running at 7AM.
Weekends: Clock stops. Picks can still be made.

Unavailable, proxy or MIA:
1.) If you miss a single pick, the rest of your teams draft will be a group pick.
2.) If you know you will be gone for awhile and might miss your pick, PM your top X players to myself or another member of this mock. They will make a proxy pick for you. JUST FREAKING DO IT!

Sure, I'm in. Although I'm not 100% sure we can pull it off this year. Seems like a lot of the usual suspects have gone missing these days.

just curious, why not the Texans?

edit: Wouldn't it be cool if all 32 teams were assigned by random.org?

The Texans will be auto assigned to avoid arguing.

I suggested that last year, and then some wanted the option to select a team they are familiar with.

I copied that from last years rules. I dont remember exactly how we did it last year. Might be 4 hours rounds 1-3 and 2 hours 4-7.

I'm in.

In the past, I've set up a random team generator to randomly assign teams to guys. Let me know if you want me to set something up like that. I can make it net available so someone besides me can run it to make sure it's on the up and up.

Yes, we will do it that way. Thank you.

Seems like it would be the reverse of that

Put the top 5 options (BPA, Need, Luxury pick, etc) and let the board decide. Like Pencil said, no one person would be liable and everyone feels like they did their part.
Just a thought.

Who comes up with the list? It still puts someone in a bind either way. What if we think their options suck?

I've enjoyed drafting for the Texans when I've done it in the past. People will criticize the selections no matter what. It's just a game to pass the time until the draft. If someone can't handle the criticism they shouldn't be playing.

Seems it would really slow things down also

I'm not so much concerned with any criticisms of the person who gets the Texans. Most here would take them criticisms and all anyway.

Just the Texans as the only intentional collective selection sounds like an appropriately fun novelty.

I will take the heat.

Give me the Texans.

I got lynched as the Texans draft pick a couple years ago. I had a lot of mistakes no doubt, but as I see it, I took the best defensive end AND the best QB in that draft. (Bridge and Ealy WITHOUT being able to trade down)

I repeat though, I did miss quite a bit, but no more than Rick Smith, nah mean?

Anyways, long story short... you NEED to be able to lynch someone. It wasn't super fun, but it was NECESSARY.

Bah007 and Wolverine can't be Texans BTW. Those are 2 guys that pretty much no one ever throws stones at, and IMO, you need to be able to throw a couple stones at the Texans drafter lol.

There's not much difference in my mock draft and Bah's. I guess I''m going to have to change things up for conversations sake.

I can think of three players I would currently draft and would bet they are pretty close to three players you would draft. If it's conversation you want I am your man. If it's crickets not so much.

I know I've told both of you this before. When it comes to on-field discussion there is not a lot that we disagree on. It's usually only when the topic strays off the field that we don't see eye to eye.

Most people on this MB disagree with my assertion that McNair is a profiteer 1st and foremost, (Look at his history in other businesses) even over putting the best product possible on the field. Even Tex disagrees with me. However decisions on who will be the face of the franchise and being good for the bottom line lead to HWNSNBM type decisions.

Also I can see the same thing happening to Watt's career that happened to AJ's, all in the name of profit. (I hope I'm wrong)

I've tried to do my best to stay away from this topic and since my thoughts are well known.

For starters Bah and I both have Spriggs as our #1. For me that's based on Brown's recovery and right now Duane is trying to get full motion in his knee. After that it would be Josh Doctson and Mackensie Alexander.

Alexander has been slipping to us a lot lately on mocks. I'm not sure if he really did we should or could pass him. Need be dammed he might be to good to pass up. JMO but I believe Spriggs will be there at our 2nd round pick. Again. JMO.
