Texans Cutting Foster...

Not sad at all if it comes to pass. Best move for the team moving forward. It doesn't preclude him coming back at a much reduced salary but he probably won't

Expected this happen. Would actually have been disappointed if he wasn't cut.

Cushing next?

It was sad to see how many times injuries limited this guy. And certainly he wasn't the same after going vegan and using his brother as his trainer. Best of luck to you, Arian. May you Namaste with another team as their back up. :handshake:

Sad but expected. Favorite Foster game memories? Mine:

2nd TD run against the Bengals in 1st playoff game.

Juking the **** outta Polamalu and scoring TD against the Steelers.

Racking up 200+ on Indy on opening day

I agree, still one of my favorite Texans of all time.
Yeah mine too. He played hard for this team. His body betrayed him but when he was out there he has a great worker and produced. Don't care about his views about religion, politics or the extra marital stuff. That's his business and none of mine. I see him as a player on this team that just like Andre was a professional and did his job very well. I wish him the best (except when he plays against us) wherever he ends up or if it's outside of football.

Those were awesome, he was just never the same without Koob. His agent should be on the phone with Elway.

My favorite was when he played against the Raiders. They could never seem to contain him.

Another aging Texans legend is leaving. Few were better when he was healthy. Complete package. 3 down RB. Thanks for your years of service.
Maybe he and AJ can be roommates in Indy?

So who do you want to replace Foster? My list would look like this

1. Lamar Miller (FA)
from draft:
2. Elliot
3. Dixon
4. Collins

So in two years Texans have released their all time franchise WR & RB. Cupboard is empty not to mention QB, guess we didn't see this coming, LOL

He was essentially used as a 1 trick pony by Kubiak (with the coup de grace delivered by OB in 2014).......something that heavily contributed to his ultimate down turn. You can't run a horse to the ground and not expect what we're seeing. Foster actually held up better than most under the circumstances. If you remove his 2013 year which was an injury catastrophe............not surprising following his 351 running attempts the year prior.............then you look at how he was pushed to the limits in all the other years:

[extrapolated to 17 games in 2011 and 2014 where he only played 13 games and in 2010 where he only played 16 games]:

2010 (played 16 games starting in only 13).............347 carries
2011...................................................................363 carries
2012...................................................................351 carries
2014...................................................................340 carries

Arian was an amazing horse............who now more than deserves a restful green pasture.

It was that time for both guys. Got on with age and didn't live up to the salary anymore. Better to cut a guy loose a year too early than a year too late.

I thought they did a good job of having an Andre replacement ready. Not so much with Foster or Schaub.

Want to win like the Patriots you have to think like them. You dont hold on to players because of emotional attachment.

Something the majority of the fan base in Houston doesnt get

I'm in the minority. I don't see this as a "had to be done" move.

We're not hurting for money. I'll be interested to see how active the Texans are in FA. If it's the same ol, same ol... then no. This doesn't make sense to me.

I don't look at it like hurting for money just to pay Foster. We have that. But do you honestly have much confidence that he'll play more than a handful of games at most? At which point couldn't that money be better allocated elsewhere? Not saying we're going to necessarily use 'his' money wisely, because who knows as of now, just that the idea alone is on allocating resources versus a guy who can't stay on the field.

I think the injury history, questionable return to form from the achilles injury and money combined to make this inevitable.

I understand the injury thing. If he hurt himself popping firecrakers in the offseason, I can understand.

This guy was hurt on the field for us. That's the way I look at it. Trying to win games so we can feel good about our team. It's a lot of money & if the Texans plan on being aggressive in FA, I'm all for it. Even if we needed the money just to sign our own (Jones, Brooks, Crick), I'm down.

Again, if the doctors are 100% sure that he'll never run another down..... 90% sure. I'm with it.

If it were me, I'd have approached him about an extension, restructure, or pay cut. When Arian Foster decides he's had enough, I'd like for it to be as a Texans. If we were able to keep him, I'd sparingly use him throughout the year, ramping it up as the season goes on. Maybe leaning on him from December on.

Now, we'll never know how he's going to perform taking my approach. He's going to be pressed into service early to see what he's got & by the time he's healthy to contribute, he may be knicked up again.

So just imagine the Texans did it my way & Arian can actually contribute in December, January... & he's a big part of why we're in the AFC Championship game.

I know it's a pipe dream. I know it's not the "business" thing to do. I know, I probably would have done the same thing. I'm just saying I don't agree that it "had" to be done.

Same thing with Cushing. We're talking about saving $2M...

Just like AJ last year. Had to be done.

This is where I'm at. Had to be done. I hate to go to a "Rocky" reference but it's simply so true and it was true about Andre Johnson just like it's true about Arian Foster. In Creed Rocky's line about how he managed to beat Apollo Creed if Creed was such a great fighter pretty much says it all: "I didn't. Time beat him. Time, you know, takes everybody out. It's undefeated."

I think if he'd played a full year last season he'd still be a Texan. Like DocBar said it was a combination of things. Injury history/Age/Achilles Injury/Money all came together.

First great Texans running back will always be Arian Foster. That will never change.

Since Rick Smith told us all that Foster would not be cut because of money, why do we all think this cut was made?

#firericksmith

He'll be 30 years old by the time the 2016 season starts, he was worked like a dog in the 2010-2012 seasons, and he's coming off an injury that typically takes a minimum of a year to return to form regardless of age.

As much as it pains me to defend something Rick Smith said, this might not be driven exclusively - or even mostly - by money.

I will always appreciate Arian and he was one of the best in his prime. Obviously, from the business perspective, this was expected.

My favorite moments was the Steelers game when he threw that lazy leg move and juked out Troy Polamalu in the backfield, and then juked James Harrison later in the game. Both of those dudes were grabbing for air.

And my favorite quote of his was when he got the big contract and reporters were asking him how he felt about other RBs getting more money. His reply "I don't judge myself by looking in another man's mirror". Well said, Arian. Good luck with whatever you decide to do in life!

Happy trails Arian, take care of that hamstring/Achilles/baby mommas et al.

Bye Arian

I'm not going to miss your always injured, pseudo intelect, self righteous, self serving BS self.

Exit stage left and take you momma/brother etc.... with you.

Well, Rick Smith is a lying backstabbing yes man, so that should explain Smith's statement.

Certainly, the 3rd greatest Texan of all time. Foster would be on the Texans Mt. Rushmore along with JJ, AJ, and....Joe Texan?

Is Arian the 2nd greatest Houston pro football RB of all time? Yeah, I think so.

Well said, man. I can't think of anyone outside of Earl that would be ahead of Arian.

And Texans Mt. Rushmore = A.J., J.J., Arian, and Texans Chick. :texans chick:

I agree with this but what have they done to replace that talent?. All they did was go full circle with Nuk by giving him the double teams AJ used to get. They released Foster now they better replace that talent, I don't want to hear them say, "we are going with what we got again".

I don't know that you need a medical degree to look at missing 23 of the last 48 games while turning 30 at the start of next year at the running back position with an achilles of all things being the most recent injury ... and looking at 6.6M saved against the cap for cutting him now.

Just reading that sentence back, I don't see how you keep him. Maybe not 'had to', but in all the most reasonable likelihoods, it's just what's best.
