Mayock re Texans look at QBs in the Combine

Watch their game tape, or even their highlights. They're strong enough.

In the NFL you dont want someone who has to wind up and put everything into a deep corner route. why because this requires time, and space something that doesnt come around often in the NFL

I didn't see any of that in their game tape. They've both got flaws, I understand there is a reason no one is talking about drafting either guy in the first.

But lack of arm strength isn't one of them. It's not a strength, not a weakness.

Thats old news, still dont think there is a realistic way to get up from 22 to 3 without multiple first, a couple 2nds, and probably some valuable players

Considering its a link from a couple of days ago and I had not heard about it yet. Maybe i missed that thread or it got lost in the mail or something. But yeah, anyways it will take a big package, it always does.

I just don't see the Texans trading up that high. Not in their nature. If the Browns take Wentz I don't think Dallas takes Goff. In which case I think we'd have to get ahead of SF to snag him.

I think our max trade up range would be the 12 or 13 spot. If the QB you really like falls out of the top 10 make a move for him if you think someone like the Rams will go after him. Hell as of right now the NYJ only have Petty and Geno under contract, and its not like if they resign Fitz he is a long term answer. You also have to remember the Bills GM said theyre not oppose to taking a QB if one they really like is there.

There's rumors that Baalke likes Cook so they could conceivably pass on Goff in the 1st.

The real question is are the Chargers willing to make a deal or are they trying to get a steal?
Looking at Walter's Football draft value chart, it would take 2016 and 2017 #1 & #2 draft picks, using 1.22 and 2.54 as the draft pick values.

There aren't as many teams in need at QB this year I don't think there would be a bidding war to move up. The cost is always high. Risk vs reward.

Here's an interesting article on the draft.

1. Scout: "This is not a good class"

A scout and I went to lunch in Indianapolis, and before the waiter could say hello, the scout was ranting about the state of quarterbacking in college and the NFL.

On college quarterbacks: "Not a single one who makes you go, 'Wow.' The best teams can hope for is that one of these guys becomes Trent Dilfer."

Wait...what? Did you say Trent Dilfer?

"This is not a good class. No matter how much you guys in the media try to spin it."

So, there's that.

He calmed down after the food arrived. He had been hungry and grumpy. Now, he was just grumpy.

The scout is one of the more respected in football, and based on interviews with a half-dozen personnel evaluators, he's not the only one who feels this way. (Well, the Dilfer comparison is a little extreme.) His overall point wasn't just about quarterbacks, and it wasn't crazy, either. This is what he was saying:

Not only is the quarterback talent in this draft barely above average. The overall offensive talent is as well.

"This is one of the worst drafts for offensive talent in the past four or five years," the scout said.

I only play scout on weekends and frankly am a Cal grad so not entirely unbiased. But Goff is the real deal. JMO. Not sure we have what it takes to get him.

The last underappreciated Cal grad turned out pretty good.

Similar draft this year... maybe we'll get lucky and Goff will slide too

After the universe created itself and hydrogen and helium atoms formed stars, and the stars formed the heavier elements, the Bureau Of Planet and Mineral management was created in a far away galaxy. I have beamed them complaints about Houston and our lack of proper humans to play football, which, of course, is a direct result of mineral mismanagement dispersal on Earth. Houston got screwed and I'm upset about that.

I disagree with said scout on QB. Sure, there isn't a Luck/Winston/Mariota slam dunk guy but if those guys are A+/A prospects then Wentz and Goff are A-/B+. Still perfectly capable of being franchise guys. Not to mention there is depth in the class where quite a few of these guys can be solid backups. People are always obsessed with starters but backups are valuable too.

Agree with him on overall offensive talent. I have 1 WR and 1 RB with 1st round grades. That's it. The skill level talent is sub-par. The O-Line group is solid though, especially Center. Probably the best Center group in years.

I hope that Hack's poor combine showing opened OB's eyes or, if nothing else, opened Smith's eyes enough to lobby against picking Hack.
Matching fifth round QBs in Savage and Hack?

That explains a LOT.

Not as much as you think. I got called Nazi at Cal A LOT. I went there for the physics degree. The building is named for a Confederate.

Seems like half the engineers in my company are from Cal. Of course, our HQ is in the Bay Area. The vast majority of those coming out of STEM programs at Cal that I've worked with/come across are grounded and moderate on most issues. Not at all the stereotype of a Cal grad.

I spent most of the last three years in SoCal and I found this to be the case with 99% of people I met and/or worked with.

SoCal has 2 very different meanings. LA or SD? They are almost different states.

Heck, LA County and the OC are two different meanings. At least they used to be. My family is from Whittier. You could practically see the grass get greener as you drove next door to La Habra.
