Robert Griffin III could be the Texans next quarterback

Along with the fanbase understandably getting tired of not having a franchise QB, you would think that the fanbase would get tired of wanting a castoff with an injury history.

Wanting yo bring in RGIII to compete with Savage and Lynch/Hack/trade up for Goff etc.... isn't the same as putting all of your hopes on RGIII.

RGIII has the ability to be a franchise QB. Will he be probably not, but his talent level is worth taking a shot on. If you miss what have you really lost?

This right here. Sign the guy to a team friendly deal. Give him the chance to compete. If he wins the job, awesome! If he doesn't, what did we lose? A roster spot for a backup QB.

We have battered spouse syndrome around here.

 No, it's called 'repeating the same mistake' syndrome. What happens 'around here' is when those legitimate injury concerns are realized during the season, then everyone puts on the their little revisionist historian hat, and jumps on the 'I never wanted him here to begin with for exactly that reason' bandwagon.

Question: If you miss what have you really lost?

Answer: Another year in J.J. Watt's finite career.

Three division titles, three trips to the playoffs, two playoff wins. It could be worse for J.J. Watt. He could play for the Bengals, Lions or even Cowboys. All have 1 or 0 playoff wins durng Watt's NFL career. In fact, I don't even remember the last time the Bengals or Lions won a playoff game.

Come to think of it the Cowboys may have won two playoff games in this decade. They beat the Lions last year in that controversial playoff game and they beat McNabb and the Eagles in a wild-card game if I'm not mistaken.

But the Texans. as bad as we've been without a franchise quarterback. have had our fair of success when compared to other lifeless teams.

So JJ should settle for a wild card win or two? The fanbase should? Maybe we should get a QB that doesn't lose games for us at a 42-0, 30-0 rate and possibly give JJ a chance to play in a AFCCG or two, perhaps even a SB?

For 14 years we've been saying, "let's bring in a good quarterback" it seems like. At some point I'm just focusing on winning games any way we can.

http://articles.latimes.com/1986-10-04/sports/sp-4155_1_steve-young

I'm not saying RGIII is the next steve young, I'm saying he's worth the risk. The 49ers gave up a 2nd and a 4th for a struggling qb and he turned in a HOF career. There isnt a play he cant make with his arms or legs. Is he perfect? No, but looking at the landscape, there is a really good chance the top 3 will be gone. Even if you stand pat and draft cook in the 2nd rd, as we've seen with geno and jimmy clausen, 2nd rd picks at qb doesnt mean its their job. The Texans can draft someone in the 2nd rd, sign RGIII, and let them battle with Savage to see who wins out. RGIII contract can have escalators in which his % snaps gets him to starting qb money.

Answer: Another year in J.J. Watt's finite career.

How are we losing another year in Watt's career just by bringing Griffin is as a competitive piece alongside an early round QB prospect?

If none of it works out sure, but it wouldn't be for lack of trying.

We should try to have higher standards than comparisons to perennial losers.

I guess you subscribe to Bob McNair's mentality that division titles are good enough. Records don't matter as long as you get a trophy...errr...banner, right?

C'mon, man, people act like the Oilers getting to the playoffs 7 years in a row is something to hang your hat on. Bullshit. There is only ONE reason for the season. Go big or go home. This acceptance of perpetual mediocrity is not something that I find all that satisfying, but to each his own. I'm certainly not the arbiter of joy around these parts.

That whole "3 division titles in five years" mentality seems to ignore the truly horrible 2-14 season squeezed in the middle of it all. Not to mention the obvious that we still do not have a stable QB, the most important position on the field. I doubt RGIII brings stability to the position.

The question was "If you miss what have you really lost?". My reply was a direct response to that very specific question.

Please try to follow along. I know you are capable of it sometimes. :fingergun:

So if you bring Griffin in to compete along with a good prospect and the prospect takes off, and in doing so doesn't waste Watt's years, then nothing lost on the Griffin swing. That was the premise of the question that your direct response dismissed.

And really go suck a bag of dicks with that nonsense at the end, I was just asking about that part of the question that I thought you overlooked.

I agree the goal is to win,but let me ask, would you rather be with a Peyton Manning type of team where every year you're in the playoffs or like Eli Manning type team? Peyton has missed the playoffs like 2 times in his entire career, but has the most 1 and dones in history. Eli has 2 sbs,but has missed the playoffs alot. I mean after his last sb, his team has missed the playoffs like 5 years in a row.

You are assuming they still bring an early round QB prospect. Odds are that doesn't happen

Bag of dicks? Really?

I'm going off the way the question was originally worded by the person who originally asked it. I was considering that that's how questions and answers work.

Is being direct any more antagonistic than being condescending?

Damn. This is getting interesting!

And that makes you the most classless POS that this forum has ever seen (which is a pretty low standard). It was a harmless joke on my part, but clearly a thin skinned chump like you takes yourself too seriously to understand light-hearted pokes that 99% of everyone else gets.

Keep it up, loser. This forum has perma-banned people for far less than your worthless drivel. :choke:

Good point, man. Obviously I'd take the two championships over any number of playoff appearances.

I guess absent a QB, we have to set our sights on accepting a so-called "game manager" QB that won't give the game away and a defense that can protect a lead. It has been a formula for many teams making it to the Super Bowl, even if they did not win it. The Broncos this season is case in point.

I don't know you from anyone and you wanted to take a dig, and for no apparent reason really. Then you get pushback and this is how you respond? Very good then.

Really I couldn't give a rip what you think of me, I was just trying to ask a reasonable question to begin with. One that you never seemed to quite fully get. Apparently that jives with you poorly here on a discussion forum. Which boiling down to you calling me classless is just terrific.

If you thought that I was out of line with my comment and/or it hit you wrong, all you had to do was mention it. "I didn't appreciate it" or whatever. I'm a man that owns my words and I'd certainly apologize for it coming out in a way that it was never intended. I've had many of those conversations with forum members over the years.

It comes from basic respect.

Your comment was "pushback"? I'd offer my thoughts on what that sounds like to me, but I'll refrain. Everyone knows what it is. Your true colors came out. Your words represent who you are. So, yeah, live with it. I could not care any less about your respect. It is worthless.

Like I said, I've never really had any back and forth with you that I can remember so I don't know why you felt a dig was even warranted there. Heaven forbid someone ask you if you misunderstood a question.

All the rest is you crying foul when you decided to get snarky to begin with. Well boo hoo.

true colors ... lol.

I'm not going to get into a flame war with you. I respect this forum and its members too much for such nonsense.

I should have just apologized for my comment when you revealed the sand in your vag and moved on.

I thought the :fingergun: would have shown the intent of my obvious misguided attempt at sarcasm.

So for that, I am sorry for the flippant statement and misjudging you. I won't let it happen again.

I didn't honestly think my response was any more egregious than your snark to begin with (language aside, but even that is subjective).

I also didn't think you would let a homo insult take you to some dark place you've seemingly always feared about yourself for some time now, and so likewise no biggie about my sandy vag, :fingergun:. So, sorry if I came off as especially hostile in that regard.

And I'm likewise sure everyone will be glad we can just shut the f up about it.

In closing, Brian Hoyer sucks and happy offseason everyone ...

Unless I'm missing something, I really don't understand how the 'type of team' reflects the difference between Peyton and Eli. What is the point that's being made here?

He's not asking about the difference between Eli and Peyton.. He's asking would you rather have a team that makes the tournament every year or have a team that lifted the trophy and cashed in the few times they entered the tournament.

I'd rather have a team that usually misses the playoffs for four or five seasons in a row but then they'll win a Super Bowl a couple of times during a decade.

I would cherish two Super Bowl wins, much less one, for the rest of my life. I'll endure a lot of losing football after that. Life is too short. Just show me a championship or two and I'm satisfied.

So to answer your question. I'd rather have an Eli Manning type of team over a Peyton Manning type of team. We could go to the playoffs every year with what we have right now. And we lost 30-0 in that wild card game! I'd rather have not even made the playoffs than be spanked like that. There were probably non-playoff teams sitting at home watching us and thinking that they belonged instead of us.

So let's go find our franchise quarterback. We've been trying to for 14 years now!!!! I ain't waiting another 14 years. Some of us won't even be alive in 14 more years.

I'm just tired of the same thing being said every year. WE NEED A QUARTERBACK!!!!!!

Sorta like AJ's, what QB do you think is available that will make the Texans a SB contender next yr? Give me a shot in th dark at RGIII and 2 yrs of Hack getting over being shellshocked (Plunkett style) or letting Lynch sit and learn.

Instead of y'all crapping on ideas, lets here what the nay sayers would do before anything happens. BTW, If Goff falls to 3 I do whatever it takes to make him the QB of the Texans future and I still bring in RGIII to hedge my bets.

100% agree, instead of McNair talking amout the price to move up, he should be saying it doesn't matter I'm getting Goff/Wentz. He's already wasted AJ's career and now he's working om Watt's career. Of course I'm not 80 yrs old and made making $$$$ my #1 priority all of my life.

See: The huge scoreboards that we paid for for more signage/ads instead of seeing a bigger view of the game, like at Jerrah's world. Also when I'm at the game I would like to be able to look somewhere in the stadium to be able to keep up with the scores of the other games. Since the WiFi sucks, (This changed when the new scoreboard came in) Now I get the pleasuse of some dweeb showing me highlights each qtr break. If I was a gambler this would drive me nuts.

Texans have allegedly spent millions to upgrade WiFi this year in preparation for the suberbowl.

Who spent those millions? The taxpayers? Season ticketholders? My tickets are going up 6% after the embarrassment that was the Hoyerible 30-0

The texans didn't spend the money the houston tax payers did, and some of the money was for WiFi and the rest was to upgrade the box seats which most of us unless we are invited will never get to enjoy

McNair shouldn't be talking at all... but you for damnsure don't want him talking about giving anything to move up to draft a particular player or two

Correct,

So, do you honestly think the Texans wll make a bold move? (Think about their history)

Guess it's obvious who in this conversation is a season ticket holder and who isn't.

Let me rephrase.

The Texans have allocated millions OF TAX DOLLARS to upgrade WiFi in preparation for the suberbowl.

Im not giving anybody an atta'boy for upgrading wifi now. It should've been done years back. We're a "first class franchise" with bargain bin wifi. I understand if the suberbowl wasn't on the way it likely wouldn't have happened. Only passing along 610 conversation.

I no longer expect anything out of this franchise... nothing they do or don't do will surprise me

Bold move...?

Ummm jjo and manning signed?
Ed's brokeazz Reed?
The schaub trade?
The Babin trade?

I've gotta be forgetting something.

Not much earth shattering here. I'd bet less then bold.

I'd take Cook at 22. However, before the draft I'd make a run at Matthew Stafford. See if I could convince the Lions to give him up.

In that case, I'd be targeting Hogan.
