NFL Random Thought of the Day

Very much the truth.

I was watching his highlight film on youtube; dude had speed, power, and moves like very few others.
It's still hard to believe how he wasted such a God given talent. He was as athletic as anybody. Some people who were around him closely at Nebraska compared him to the great Bo Jackson and Hershel Walker in terms of his pure overall athleticism at the running back position.

I hate when there's music on highlight videos but here's a glimpse of him in his prime:

8 QB's left in playoffs

4 #1 Draft picks - Palmer, Newton, Smith and Manning. 1 Super Bowl win, lots of playoff appearances
2 1st RD Draft picks - Roethlisberger, Rodgers. 3 Super Bowl wins, numerous playoff appearances
1 3rd RD pick, Wilson and 1 6th RD pick, Brady. 5 Super Bowl wins, numerous playoff wins.

Memo to Texans front Office, STOP SCREWING AROUND WITH THE QB POSITION, PLEASE!!!!

interesting that the group of #1 picks has the fewest SB rings
...just sayin'

So your point is that only three of the teams left in the playoffs have QB's they took in the first round, and of those three, only one was a top ten overall selection?

And the least Playoff appearances.
Smith - 3
Manning - 24
Newton - 3
Palmer - 2
32 combined for the #1 picks.

67 combined for the other 4 QB's, with the 1st ROUND picks having 29 of them with 3 SB wins.

I heard on 610 that the CFL would be a good place for manziel to develop and maybe finally grow up so it got me wondering if a top flight college team beat the best CFL team? I think bama could beat the Argonauts. That's the only team I know. Is there a team called the baby fur seals or the hosers?

What's his motivation? Obviously, he wasn't motivated by being a starting NFL QB; what makes anyone think he'll be interested in slumming it in the CFL for a lot less money? He can just retire, maybe get a gig on TV, and keep partying.

True he had money before but I imagine the pressure is far less of than in the NFL. It wouldn't surprise me that after he totally flops in the NFL hell resort to CFL.

It was.. he still did the right thing by getting a 5th round pick back for him.. (He should have never drafted him though).

This article explains his extension

He didn't get a 5th free and clear. We sent a 6th back. And if we had kept him here this year and let him go he would have gone into the compensatory pick calculation. That hurts twice. That meant bringing in Shorts thus negating one of our free agent departures.

Well Shorts did help us this year and is a vet (we needed receivers at the time) so it's hard to say if that comp pick would of gave us more production.. and he upgraded a draft pick.. we're arguing over small beans really

Martin's production in NE was slightly better than Shorts' in Houston. Maybe Martin wasn't used/evaluated properly here where OB barely let him see the field. And Shorts doesn't do returns. Before you say "we'll Martin isn't a good returner" he added 5+ yds to his returns on both kicks and punts in NE. It's not all on the returner.

Or maybe I don't know he had a better QB.. I'll take Shorts production over Martin considering who was passing the ball. Martin was a soft receiver here who hated going over the middle and we can always find another project receiver/returner late in the draft.. I certainly won't lose any sleep over his departure.. this isn't Belichick stealing Wes Welker from the Dolphins here.

We're about to find out how good the Kansas City Chiefs really are. The Patriots aren't exactly the Texans. I expect the Chiefs to be joining us on the golf course in 2.5 hours. They have little chance of beating the defending Super Bowl champions on the road.

I enjoy seeing these two teams, KC NE, on 3rd down. They run plays that are just past the the first down marker. What a novel concept. Attempt to get more yardage than you need. Who would've thought?

So if they ran plays short of the marker, would that make it alright as well?

You can see how the nfl works...not griping about the penalty called on roughing on brady, but alex smith didn't get that luxury earlier

Exactly what I was thinking! Smith didn't get that call when NE launched into him. You knew Brady was getting that call as soon as he rolled over and called for the flag. BS.

Chiefs aren't getting pressure on Uggs Brady. Gotta smack him around.
They rarely got pressure on Brian Hoyer last weekend and that was without our All Pro left tackle. Their defense has looked bad to be honest. Our quarterback play was just so horrible we couldn't take advantage of that. To have been shut out by their banged up defense was a shame.

Can't deny Tom Brady still has that fire after all those rings.
Yep. It's a breath of fresh air watching him play. Deflate-gate aside, the bottom line is he can throw any football around with plenty of accuracy, toughness and intelligence. There's a reason why Tom Brady may play in his seventh Super Bowl and win his fifth Super Bowl ring in a few more weeks. It's nice to see great quarterback play. Maybe one day we'll have that here in Houston.

Peyton Manning and Brady have been given special treatment for years. I bet during their prime, if you put Brady on defense against the Colts and let him blitz Manning the Refs' heads would explode, because they wouldn't know what to do...it would be too much for them to handle.

You can do that in the new Madden video game? LOL

They are the Spurs of the NFL.. as long as Brady and Bill are there they'll be in contention.. I hear Texans/Rockets fans ***** all the time how they should be more like and do stuff like the Patriots/Spurs all the time... Guess what folks, you don't think EVERYONE HASN'T ALREADY TRIED THAT! LOL (in both leagues).

Those type of teams/organizations in which maintain that level of excellence for that long are special and don't come around very often... We may never see it ever again in the modern era.

I just hope we can win one before I kick the bucket lol
