The effect of the beating Patriots quarterback Tom Brady took on Sunday was readily apparent after he took the final question of his postgame press conference. As he stepped away from the podium at Sun Life Stadium, he held onto the wall with his right hand and appeared to limped down a step before disappearing behind a curtain.
He was clearly in some pain, but the fact that Brady was able to walk at all without the aid of crutches or the stability provided by a walking boot may have indicated that the Patriots quarterback dodged a bullet.
Brady had his legs awkwardly pinned to the ground from behind by Dolphins defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh during the second quarter of New England's loss to the Dolphins, 20-10. He was able to get back to his feet after throwing an incomplete pass, but Brady had a noticeable limp as he went back to the Patriots sidelines.
Brady had his right ankle checked by Patriots medical staffers and eventually had his right cleat spatted by trainer Jim Whalen. He did not miss an offensive snap until the fourth quarter when New England inserted backup signal-caller Jimmy Garoppolo to take the team's final offensive snaps.
Asked about his ankle injury after the game, Brady admitted he was hurting.
"I'm pretty sore," Brady said. "But will be all right."
Brady finished the game 12-for-21 with 134 yards passing, no touchdowns and no interceptions. He attempted just five passes -- which included one shovel pass -- in the first half, which is the fewest number of passes Brady has ever attempted in a game that he has started, according to ESPN Stats and Information.
The Patriots increased their number of pass attempts in the second half, and on Brady's 23 total drop-backs, he was hit eight times, which included two Dolphins sacks.
