NFL Random Thought of the Day

Defense has won those games. Don't kid yourself.

As he brought his (our) defensive coaching staff, including Bill Kollar walking out on us ... that means those wins don't count.

Homefield advantage with a Wade Phillips defense against the best teams vs .500 division win with a Wade Phillips defense against the worst teams. Don't kid yourself.

Ok....If it makes you sleep better at night with your kubiak pillow.

It sucks that OD is no longer with us. I believe that decision was made because he rarely played a full season. Had we not already committed to spending money on other similarly injured players; Foster, Cushing... AJ, he'd probably still be here.

Still... remember that hit Reggie Nelson put on him Monday night? OD thanked him for it.

In case you can't make out the hashtag-speak, Daniels said that's the hardest he's ever been hit. Nice work by the 32-year-old Nelson who earned his first Pro Bowl nod this season.

I love OD. He's still a good player. Poor defenders. They go high they get flagged for targeting. They go low they get blasted for being dirty cheap shot artists. This is probably what NFL gear will look like in the future.

Colts cut Griff Whalen from injured reserve

Whalen was already placed on IR with broken ribs on Dec. 21. These tweets makes no sense at all to me. Players can't be cut directly from IR. They must be classified waived/injured, and if not picked up within 24 hours by another team, then they revert to the original team's IR or given an injury settlement.

There was a report out today that Luck's early season injuries were worse than disclosed. He had torn cartilage on at least 2 ribs and they were injecting to get him on and keep him on the field. Small wonder his play suffered.

His shoulder injury occurred the end of Sept..........he only missed 2 games. In the beginning of Nov, it was reported that he had also sustained rib fractures in addition to his shoulder injury. Now he is reported to have had "torn cartilage on at least 2 ribs," essentially rib separations. It's bad enough to have rib fractures which take 6-8 weeks before it is wise to return to play because of the risk of extending/displacing the fracture. But, true rib separations are an even stranger bird..............they should be rested at least 6 weeks to give healing a chance (cartilage has poor blood supply and thus poor healing qualities). Many athletes (and teams) get frustrated with the healing time of this injury and return to play too soon. Without the appropriate rest (despite attempted treatment with anti-inflammatory injections), separated ribs of significance are notorious to progress to a long-term chronic inflammatory condition that is extremely painful and will require intense ongoing care to bring down the inflammation. This is an injury that is important, even more important than most, for the player to do his best to see the rest period through. There is nothing to be gained not to.......and a lot to be lost otherwise. Remember, he missed only 2 games (3 weeks from time of injury), but actually started throwing "without limitations" again only 12 days following the injury...........but he was actually throwing again on a limited basis in an entirely inadvisable time table for such an injury...........within 1 week of the injury. There should be absolutely no doubt why he had debilitating ongoing problems due to this improperly-attended injury.

Why don't players have independent Dr's look over their medical issues? It's obvious that team Dr and staff are more interested in getting players back on the field instead of getting players healthy?

I'm guessing there's a decent number of players who are also more interested in getting back on the field instead of getting healthy. Whether it's a counter-productive sense of competitiveness, or simply a fear of not having a job next season (obviously not Luck's issue), I'm guessing a lot of these are as much on the player as the team.

They can. As CT says, probably just want to get back on the field.

A 2016 prediction, Saban goes to the NFL (Indy), Jimbo Fisher goes to Bama, why he didn't take LSU job that left Miles hanging.

Ndamukong Suh strikes again!

The effect of the beating Patriots quarterback Tom Brady took on Sunday was readily apparent after he took the final question of his postgame press conference. As he stepped away from the podium at Sun Life Stadium, he held onto the wall with his right hand and appeared to limped down a step before disappearing behind a curtain.

He was clearly in some pain, but the fact that Brady was able to walk at all without the aid of crutches or the stability provided by a walking boot may have indicated that the Patriots quarterback dodged a bullet.

Brady had his legs awkwardly pinned to the ground from behind by Dolphins defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh during the second quarter of New England's loss to the Dolphins, 20-10. He was able to get back to his feet after throwing an incomplete pass, but Brady had a noticeable limp as he went back to the Patriots sidelines.

Brady had his right ankle checked by Patriots medical staffers and eventually had his right cleat spatted by trainer Jim Whalen. He did not miss an offensive snap until the fourth quarter when New England inserted backup signal-caller Jimmy Garoppolo to take the team's final offensive snaps.

Asked about his ankle injury after the game, Brady admitted he was hurting.

"I'm pretty sore," Brady said. "But will be all right."

Brady finished the game 12-for-21 with 134 yards passing, no touchdowns and no interceptions. He attempted just five passes -- which included one shovel pass -- in the first half, which is the fewest number of passes Brady has ever attempted in a game that he has started, according to ESPN Stats and Information.

The Patriots increased their number of pass attempts in the second half, and on Brady's 23 total drop-backs, he was hit eight times, which included two Dolphins sacks.

Brady today was diagnosed to have sustained a high ankle sprain yesterday.............He'll be able to rest his ankle for the next 2 weeks thanks to the Bye..........but he will still be suffering the effects of the injury when he returns to play.

I don't like how referees don't call it when pass rushers obviously shoot for QBs legs. Especially from the back.

Of the top 7 defenses, only Jets (4) didn't make the playoffs. Denver, Seattle, Houston, Arizona, Carolina and KC are still playing.

Saban is too much on top of the world status in college football. He's a control freak. He now acts as unlimited/unrestrained recruiter, HC, GM and "owner." He loses most of that if he returns to the NFL. I doubt that he takes a chance on failing for the 2nd time in the NFL.........his ego couldn't take being knocked off the top of the mountain.

Or maybe he's like Caroll & his ego won't let him accept that he failed in the NFL.

Random thought: Would the Mike Shanahan offensive system vibe with Eli and that offense?

Unless they are certain they got a better HC this doesn't make much sense.

Their OC did a great job with Winston this year and Miami started sniffing around for their HC opening so it appears TB fired Lovie in order to promote the OC so he can stay around and groom Winston.

He earned that suspension. He somehow managed to injure Roethlisberger (twice), Antonio Brown, and Le'Veon Bell all in the same season.
