Official Half Assed Game Day Thread for a Half Assed Team - Bengals v Texans

Lol

It's mindsets.

In my world you never ever give up.

You don't hope for something to breakdown so bad that "maybe" you get something better.

You fight every inch with what you have until the job is done.

In my world, failure is not an option.

If that's accepting mediocrity, I don't know what to tell you.

Understood, but what if a win leads to ultimate failure?

BTW, I've never rooted for the Texans to lose. It's not in my DNA, losing is for losers.

Damn things are so bad around here we didn't even get an official Gameday thread......Tough times in Houston Texas.

Why does everyone point out that we go ape **** happy with a win, but then call the Texans a dumpster fire when they lose?

Because we're fans. It's what we do. Jesus folks, get over it. LOL
My problem is not with disappointment at losses. It's with fans dissapointed with wins because of the effect on the draft and urgency to fire everyone in sight.

The whole goal is the Superb Owl and to get there this year we have to win our division. And luckily for us that can be done this year.

I'm not concerned with "next" year.

Max Bollough on STs as well.

Then Charles James made two great plays on defense. One, a tackle for a loss. The other, a tackle for a short gain, that brought us to a third down I believe. & the Texans defense wasn't having it on 3rd down. They got off the field like they're supposed to.

Yep, the ST's have improved since James was signed. It's the reason I was not happy he was cut to begin with. Bullough has found his niche as a ST's guy. Hopefully Smith doesn't cut these guys for some guy that looks good in shorts and a t-shirt that runs real fast but cant tackle to save his life. (Looking at you Rolle/Moore)

This is my evil twin - K-tex? (Kotex/Katy, Texas?)
I don't know, I'm sure Dalton was upset that he had such a bad game against an inferior team but what JJ said shouldn't have stung so much. I wouldn't think, at least.

Great win. But I'm not sure what to make of it. Probably a sign we're not the worst team in our division? The Bengals are notorious prime time choker. I rather Texans beat a Packers, Cardinals or even Steelers. These Bengals, idk.

I am seeing this all over. "Its the Bengals! What did you expect?" Every damn "expert" picked the bengals:

Texans at 3-5 went on the road, in prime time (where they suck as well) and took it to a team that was undefeated and considered by most to be the 2nd best team in the conference. Give them some credit

Look at team owner lmao

Whatever to all the Andy Daltons of the thread. First time in a while the Hyundai commercial actually made sense.

I have a dream. That One day my team will beat the previously undefeated Patriots and pin another first loss on an undefeated team.

So beating an 8-0 team isn't good enough unless it is the "right kind" of 8-0 team. smh...

If we are honest about it, a huge helping of Bengals screwups were served to help the Texans. I think the Bengals collectively underestimated the Texans and thought it would be a cakewalk. That 8-0 record started making them believe their own hype and they got sloppy with both play calling and actual execution on the field.

I'm not going to downplay the win, but let's see this Texans team be consistent from week-to-week before expecting too much from them. Playing the hapless Jets this week will be a good indication if this team is really turning a corner or if last night was that blind squirrel getting its nut. Both teams need a win to stay in the playoff hunt, so this could be another one game season Superb Owl for us.

Re-watched most of the game at lunch. I think Blue hurts the running game as much, if not more, than the oline. Grimes and Polk saw some lanes. Blue sees nothing but the back of his oline. Dude's got the worst vision I've seen in a RB (including Ron Dayne). I'd start Grimes and have Polk back him up.

I mean, the coaches have to see it. Right? Goodness

Couldn't have said it better. All the eyeores in here are trying to downplay this win as nothing more than luck... This team showed up and played a helluva game when in all honesty it probably would've been easier for them to just pack it in for the season given the odds experts and degenerate gamblers alike gave them to win this game. Defensively they took it to a team that by all accounts was healthy and more talented than they were and offensively they were able to get just enough going with their starting qb going out against a very stout defensive team. That's more than luck, that's a team keeping perspective of the big picture despite how the first half of their season went fighting tooth and nail to win.....& i can always get behind that. Yeah, sure there were a ton of mistakes by the Bengals that aided us, but i'm pretty sure the defense we played agianst them had more than a little something to do with that. Furthermore I didn't here anyone in here using that excuse for us when we virtually handed at least 2 wins on a silver platter to Indy and Miami earlier this year. It was, "well, (insert player here) sucks" and this or that...never about how lucky the other team was. You need a little luck in this league at times and we are more than due for our fair share. You guys gotta learn to take winning better.

Don't forget he looks S-L-O-W!

At least Dayne could "wrecking ball" things when there wasn't a hole. Blue just hits the back of his blocker and falls down or stops a yard behind him and stands there. Blue has looked good a couple of times but he literally requires a hole to be effective. He'll never make his own and he can't create anything in space. He is the most basic of RB's.

Unless you think the Bengals are legit, then yes it's a promising win. This win only confirmed my belief that the Bengals are pretender because of Dalton. I honestly would feel better if Texans beat a 4-5 Seattle than this "8-0" Bengals.

Yeah, that same Bengals team went on the road and beat that 4-5 Seattle team that you think is more legit than they are so at the very least, The Bengals are as legit of a team as them.....they have been in the playoffs the last 4 years & barring a monumental collapse, they will be in the playoffs this year too. Just b/c they aren't likely to be in the super bowl doesn't take away from them being a good team. I really don't see what their SB aspirations has to do with us anyway. We were 11 pt dogs and hadn't even come close to the defensive performance we were treated to last night.

WHat if we beat the like 12-0 Superbowl Champion Patriots ...????

How are we defining 'legit'? If it's making the playoffs, the Bengals are about as legitimate as they come. If it's the Super Bowl, then is anybody legitimate except the Patriots in the AFC? The Broncos have a hurt Peyton Manning, the Colts have looked bad & Pittsburgh's season depends on the health of Big Ben. The Bengals are legitimately in the conversation as the #2 team in the AFC right now.

So the Bengals beat us because Dalton made mistakes....uh no duh. Can anyone talk about the fact that we won despite the mistakes we made? We dropped a lot of passes, we couldn't run the ball well, and we had some questionable 3rd and 3 calls that sucked balls.

And can anyone talk about the 4 or 5 passes defensed by a secondary that's been suspect all season with a rookie CB playing the best out of all of them?

What it came down to, was we made less penalties than the Bengals, and we had less turnovers than the Bengals. Bottom line. Oh and we threw a TD and the Bengals didn't. That simple.

Just like when we lose, the other team played more mistake free football and put the ball in the endzone.

Sorry but I can't take a team that can't win under the bright lights seriously. I mean not only did they lose this game on MNF but it was against a team with no running game and a recently signed backup qb. Even if it was against the Patriots a prime time lost still shows the Bengals aren't legit.

They also never won a playoff game under Dalton. You can see the panic in his face after a few hits in the pocket. They will lose against the first team they meet in the playoffs, hopefully it will be against our very own Texans[emoji6]

We won!

Let's win some more!

It doesn't help that the coaching staff think it's a good idea to try to run a slow footed RB outside. Blue is best going north and south. Just run some power plays and forget all the stuff that requires some vision if you want this guy to gain some yards.

we had some questionable 3rd and 3 calls that sucked balls

Man, I was losing my mind with those calls. WTF?! Just proves how stubborn O'Brien is.

Umm, they are 4-5 now chief. Sounds like you need your safe space just like that cry baby ginger does.

Right, because talking **** while you're a losing team is a great idea.

Its cool that some of you guys get all pumped up by JJs comments and on field antics, and for a while I was too. Now its just cringe worthy.

"Howww You Dooin' " LOL

Never understood OBs fascination with him.

One thing I really liked was hearing That OB apologized to the team. That's huge IMO.

Maybe he can turn the corner as a coach and rectify some of his mistakes.

IMO a great deal of what a coach needs to do is getting the players to play hard every game and to play with great concentration.

When players don't fully trust a coach and buy in that doesn't happen.

All the schemes and whatever are irrelevant with a team that's mentally aloof and not giving 100% effort all game.

You start to see that with a lot of coaches in different sports.
Mconcentration and effort go a long way.

I'm afraid EllisUnit is right, and I hate to throw water on anybody's campfire, but the win saved the job of a sorry HC and deprived us of any chance at a 1st round QB. If I thought we had a chance at the AFC South crown and therefore the playoffs I'd be happier. But this win set the franchise back another 10 years.

I'll wait to see what happens in Indy. If a sorry Colts team beats us in Indy (again), then yeah... OB should havebeen fired after Miami.

If we win in Indy... I might look the other way.

I guess I don't understand why someone cannot hold both opinions.

Yes, be happy for the win and praise the team for being competitive. They earned the win.

But, you can also be objective at the same time and admit that the 2015 Texans are just not a good overall team right now. The Bengals are a better team in overall talent and how they have been playing this season. You can give props to the Texans while still acknowledging that the Bengals did not play their best game.

Everything does not have to be extremes, either black or white, Eyeore or Kool Aid Man. There is middle ground in there to be happy as a Texans fan but also be objective in analysis as an NFL fan.

It's like being around that person in your family or life that always has to point out the "reality" of your situation.

You do something and feel really good about it and they come back with, "well you need to do this better or so and so does it like this and it's amazing!"

F that.

We sucked turd balls the first half of the season, we may suck them the second, I'm tired myself of hearing about how much we blow.

Going to keep rooting and hoping we win this shitty division.

Lol

I hope we win every game. I don't think that's possible, but that's not going to stop me from hoping.

The best guy in the draft isn't necessarily a guy in the top 10. We've proven that ourselves a few times.

And a team can suck, go 7-9, make the playoffs, and still improve themselves in the draft and through FA. Just look at the Seahawks and the Panthers.

They may aggravate you, but you need people like that in your life.

Remember, Elvis died on the toilet after being surrounded by "yes men" for decades. :fingergun:

I agree in general, but where it breaks down for me is lacking the confidence in the current FO of our franchise to pull off a Seahawks and Panthers destiny after winning a 7-9 division.

I couldn't care less about Watt's comments. That's the point. It was not worthy of Dalton's over the top speech about the integrity of the game, and the poor children who look up to Watt. Oh and by the way, Dalton wised up and walked back--sort of--his comments. Something I am sure you do not have the courage to do.

Here's Clay Mathews thoughts

There are objective posts like yours & then there are those who just refuse to give props to the team for anything short of a 1980 USA Hockey team type upset....................and even then that would have to be in the SB for them to acknowledge it as anything other than Luck or some other happenstance. Previous to this game, many fans said that the Texans were the team that never shows up in prime time games & I'm sure some undoubtedly still feel that way...

Yeah, the Bengals didn't play their best game....but you know what, we didn't either and i guarantee you that no team plays their best game every single week...what it's about is finding a way to win every week....even when you don't have your best game and the bottom line is there are no asteriks on wins or losses if you or your opponent don't show up to play.
