Texans v Fins: The Unofficial Game Day Thread

One of the best investments I've made in my life was in 1996, Directv. Sunday Ticket allows me to navigate the lineup and watch competitive football.

As I was watching highlights of the Miller 75 yd run, i noticed the los went from the 14 to the 16 yd line at the snap. Cushing took wrong hole, couldnt get off block and jogged. The safety in the box didnt fill the hole and tried to shoestring tackle miller. Clownet tried to get around vs flatten out. Moore to a bad angle and the lack of footspeed came into play again.

The team that BB built in Cleveland went on to win the Super Bowl when they were relocated to Baltimore.

In all due respect, Bill Belichick's last year in Cleveland they went 5-11, in 1995. When the Browns moved to Baltimore, they went 4-12 (1996), 6-9-1 (1997), 6-10 (1998) 8-8 (1999 - the first year of Brian Billick [another BB]), then finally a Superb Owl in 2000. That was not Bill Belichick's team, with three years of Ted Marchibroda before they got Billick.

Bull****. He's just covering his own *** with that response. He shouldn't have been in the game at that point. We know it, he knows it, and he knows that we know that he knows it.

Foster was one of the guys they can't lose and I think a couple of more were in until the bitter end .

Can you blame him at this point? Everyone else is bailing on this joke of a coaching staff and team. I personally do not blame him one damn bit. O'Brien did him wrong more than once this season.

he is not making good publicity for himself tho...

Our big guns are tired.

Aaron Wilson ‏@AaronWilson_NFL
Texans defensive end J.J. Watt: 'Disappointed, not a very good football performance.'

Vince Wilfork: 'I think it's bad football. We have to figure out how to get better, plain and simple. We got beat. No rhyme or reason.'

I think any real coach would understand. Something tells me we shall see. I think they might just trade him after this. We could use a RB right? Or some LB's. or a real safety which HAL is not. The list goes on. Thank goodness we have Hoyer though. Watching all of that accuracy and touch today was inspiring. Who needs Mallett anyway?

For as long as it mattered it looked like the Fins would have more touchdowns than the Toros had 1st downs. Oh well, at least the Astros and Rockets are legitimate contenders.

not sure if sarcasm or not.

I didn't watch the game with much interest after the 35 points in the first half

lol :)

the best part was when the commentator said: "houston defense can't do everything, offense needs to step it up"

and I thought, "wtf... they just gave up a 55 yard TD"

maybe I missed that guy sarcasm as well
No, he just wanted to stop people from changing the channel. lol

Aaron Wilson ‏@AaronWilson_NFL
Ryan Mallett on missing flight 'I got caught in traffic it's not the leadership role I need to exhibit'

Jadeveon Clowney 'nobody wants to be down 41-0 we got to find a way to start fast'.

Jadeveon Clowney on tackling problems 'we got to wrap up'

Mark Berman ‏@MarkBermanFox26
Bill O'Brien:"What you see on the field is a reflection of the coaching. I look in the mirror."

Brian T. Smith ‏@ChronBrianSmith
DeAndre Hopkins: "I ain't doing interviews." #Texans

Texans were down 41-0 and O'Brien had to open presser by adressing Ryan Mallett situation. No comment on Mallett.

O'Brien said he didn't feel like #Texans quit today. Can't explain what happened and why they trailed 41-0.

Wilfork said it's not fair to put it all on O'Brien. Several #Texans insisted team just must play better.

Adam Wexler ‏@awexler
"It's terrible, it's something I take full responsibility for. Anything that has to do w/ Mallett will be handled in house." O'Brien #Texans

Daniel Gotera ‏@DTGoteraKHOU
O'Brien: "It's terrible. It's something I take full responsibility for"

O'Brien: "I never felt like anybody quit"

O'Brien on Foster: "I feel terrible for him. He's done a lot for us the last two years. I hate that part of the game"

Houston Texans ‏@HoustonTexans
O'Brien: "I think we have players that know how to play the game. I'm the leader of the team you see on the field. That's on me."

O'Brien on defensive miscues: "We got to go back and figure out how we can coach it better."

O'Brien: "We know we are not very good right now, but there is a lot of season left. We've only played two divisional games."

Hoyer: "I think us as players have to take ownership of it and play better. It is a players league. We have to go out and execute."

Tania Ganguli ‏@taniaganguli
I asked O'Brien if he regrets having Arian Foster in the game that late. He said no. #Texans

Aaron Wilson ‏@AaronWilson_NFL
Bill O'Brien said team needs to do tackling drills, pursuit drills
This should be on Saturday Night Live......These statements are hilariously pathetic.....Oh hell, maybe this IS Saturday Night Live!!!

Its almost sad watching all the Mallet guys bang the sarcasm drum about Hoyer after watching their guy fizzle out. Cringe worthy really.

Does anyone know if the defense does tackling drills at the pro level? I've never played football but I'd imagine that at this level pros should know what the **** they are doing?

I have to agree. So many issues with this team and both QBs have shown themselves as clipboard holders at best and we still have people making excuses for players. Mallet didn't even make the goddamned team plane.

Whatever, it's definitely not worth debating.

Everybody knows this team sucks and almost everybody knows these two QBs suck. Time to move onto a new path with a new GM and new coaches. If we don't fire Rick Smith before the start of next year, I am done with this franchise. Life's too short for this bullshit.

I've been thinking about this all year, about tackling in general. It seems to me that ALL teams, not just Houston, over-run the ball carriers on a regular basis these days. Could very well be just me, but it doesn't take long to see it in any game you might be watching.

I want to know why.

OB brought 90 guys in here back in may. A competitive roster. All guys he wanted here, including the two QBs you mentioned.

He whittled that 90 man roster down to 53 that he said we could win with. But unless we're playing the worst of the worst, we're not even competitive.

Why?

If he's going to tell me he has to coach it better, can he tell me why he didn't? Did he get drunk wit the Jags' victory?

I'm no expert, I don't know why this entire team sucks. I would venture to say that we **** the bed finding LBers that can play in the open field. We **** the bed with the quarterbacks, although I still don't know what the other options were. We **** the bed in the past 2-5 drafts. We **** the bed with the extensions we've made. We **** the bed letting players like Glover Quin leave, only to sign a safety not nearly as good. We **** the bed all over the place. Most of it is Rick Smith's ****. It's time to replace the sheets, even the mattress pad. **** it, just buy a new bed.

When owners hire an almost average head coach....we pay to watch an almost average team....A Legit Head coach w/a legit staff and this team would be 4 wins 3 losses and improving each week.....I've been preaching it since preseason & even started a thread (Is Obrien Really An NFL Caliber Head Coach)....My answer was no then & it's still no today.....And Obrien is proving me & many other guys on here that we've been right. Obrien (at best) is a decent college football coach. That's it.... And like I said before....Obrien will never be a head coach again in this league....a cheap fire sale assistant for a bargain price w/a crap team....maybe. It doesn't matter how many yrs he stays here or how many great players we bring in....Obrien doesn't have the experience, the talent, the teaching skills, the hiring skills, the respect, the football IQ, the decissive judgement, the eye for evaluating talent, or the organizational skills to be a top tier NFL head coach.

I just saw the Forster injury. Bye, AF. See you in the funnies.

Sorry guys, I've had it. And no, I don't care. The man made great money getting hurt. Bye.

It's almost sad watching Hoyer guys bang the Mallett guys banging the sarcasm drum, drum. Based on your posting history. Sadness is something you know a lot about.

Whatever, it's definitely not worth debating.

But you had to make sure you commented anyway right?

LOL, I guess lucky for me my happiness in life and feeling of success isnt based on my Texans Talk post history!

Remember, this past week included the FIRST full-contact practice of the season for the Texans. They practiced "air tackling" in all the other practices........and their practices have not gone for naught, as they have translated this to perfection when on the field Sundays.

only 29 pages on a gameday thread really says it all. I remember a time when there were twice as many.

Our staff and owner have created the worst, franchise-killing environment --- Apathy.

I would prefer that McNair take the stage at the press conference this afternoon, just him with his son standing in the shadows. I would then like him to say that "Rick Smith, Crennel and Godsey have been released - effective immediately. OB remains head coach and is now acting OC, Vrabel is now acting DC. A full assessment of the coaching staff will be done at the end of the season."

That would at least have the slim possibility of making the Texans worth watching the remainder of this season.

The Texans always moan and groan that in general there are so many more Cowboys fans in Texas and specifically in Houston...wonder who turned them off from the Texans? The product on the field has been as pathetic as the natural turf on the field in Houston.

If would be preferable that the newbies on this board refrain from mentioning the Cowgirls in our hour of mourning. Or, at least this morning. It only makes things worse. I'm sure they mean well, but should be taken out and shot anyway.

It would be nice if Mallett could start by just catching the team charter. That doesn't seem too hard.

Would that work? - signed Dolphins fan.
everybody always talks of "accountability"

granted, english it's not my first language, but I thought "Accountability" meant something different from what I'm seeing right now :)

honestly, I don't care if "it'll work" meanign "we will start winning games"

It's enough that we are not considered the laughing stock of the league

Apparently English is not the Texan's first language either.
