2015 Texans Talk Mock Draft SELECTION

Status
Not open for further replies.
I'll take the KC Chiefs! Thanks for including me...didn't realize people were already assigned (late to the party).

Sounds like a plan my man.

Blake, if I may, I'd like to formally hand the KC reigns over to Texan4Ever. Thank you kindly.

Went on a weekend getaway, so I doubt I'm going to be up at 7. Since I'm Tampa Bay anyway, I think I'll just make my pick since if won't quite hurt anyone and the next person still doesn't have to start until 7.

Without further ado....

with the first pick in the Texanstalk Draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select.....

Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State University.

OK. I have a new computer and I can FINALLY log in. The time difference is a little disconcerting at this point but I should be around for my pick. I might not be right on top of it, but I should be around shortly thereafter.

So Since HTownFan (Buccaneers) made his pick before the clock started does that mean that Texanator (Titans) has an additional 4 hours, so they have 8 hours to pick? Or do they just have 4 hours, so until 1100 AM to make their pick?

Also, are we posting all of our draft picks on this thread or starting a new thread?

Clarity would be appreciated because I don't completely understand.

And thank you.

If a pick is made when the clock is not running it simply means that the next person can pick right away, or wait until the clock starts again at 7AM and then they have their 4 hours.

In this case, The Bucs made their pick while the clock was stopped. So the Titans clock starts at 7AM and they have until 11AM before we proxy pick if needed.

All picks will be made in this thread...

And documented here.

Any other questions please ask.

Give him Mariotta. I need my guy to slip to #5.

I haven't been following the draft lead up as close as I always do this year cause I've been busy winning my fantasy basketball championship, but is there any truth to the rumors the Titans are content with Zach Mett?

I can't see ANY scenario in which the Titans would pass up on Mariotta, despite what every Draftnik and "expert" is preaching.

FYI - I still follow the draft lead up more than most people though

I the real world, I think the Titans trade the pick to a team wanting Mariota. In this mock draft, I think it should be Williams.

No they are not content on Mettenberger (hence the interest in Rivers), but I do not think Whisenhunt wants to develop Mariota. He doesn't have the time for a project at QB. If this team doesn't improve fast he is done in 2 years.

In all honesty, I would not be surprised if they use this pick to get a veteran QB in the real draft. #2 for Rivers is gaining a lot of traction. San Diego would then take Mariota (who they love).

For the purpose of this mock though, I think they go with Leonard Williams.

Wow. Missed pick @#2.

Tenn takes Leonard Williams, DL, Southern California

On the clock

3(3) Jaguars (PHILLYTEXANFAN) --

I have proxy picks for Lucky @1.7

With the Third pick, The Jacksonville Jaguars want to protect their franchise QB and select. Brandon Scherff OT/OG Iowa

5(5) Redskins (TexansFTW) -- On the clock
6(6) Jets (steelbtexan) -- On deck
7(7) Bears (Lucky) -- In the Hole (PM'ed me his picks)

Wow, yall made this real hard on me. I thought for sure I'd either be picking who was left of Mariota or Fowler here. But not both.

John Clayton - whom I think is the best reporter / analyst in the NFL (Shefter and Rap Sheet are just straight reporters to me that's why I have Clayton over them) has stated VERY clearly that Mariota will not get past the Skins at number 5 if he slips. I believe him 100% when he says that too.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...-would-draft-marcus-mariota-if-hes-available/

Not to mention that the GM McCloughan has also made it clear he'd take him too.

http://www.richmond.com/redskins-xtra/article_0242b5bb-88a1-5962-96a1-4897440221fc.html

With all that said though... I also believe they are saying that on the premise that Fowler would not be available when he said that. McCloughan has made it very clear that he is a guy that always takes BPA and if that doesn't line up with Need, it doesn't line up.

In this situation though, the 2 biggest needs on the Skins are Pass Rush and QB (they hate RG3 despite what Snyder says). But the fact I believe Fowler is going to be a stud in the NFL and is a perfect Hybrid (Joker) fit for their pass rush scheme coupled with the fact that I don't believe Winston or Mariota will hold a candle to Teddy B, I am unfortunately going to have to pass on the Flyin Hawaiin.

The pick is Dante Fowler Jr. He is the perfect replacement AND improvement for Brian "Broken Promises" Orakpo and will compliment Kerrigan on the other side.

Question, Is Joker the right terminology I am looking for?

A guy that can adapt as the edge rusher in a 3-4 as the OLB then switch to the DE in a 4-3 and put his hand in the dirt.

I always get confused w/ my terminology, either Joker or Jack or Hybrid.

I say this cause I know the Skins base formation is a 3-4, but also read somewhere that Barry (the skins new DC) said something about frequently being in 4-3 looks.

First pick is no surprise. I personally wouldn't take Winston but the pick is a no brainer if you think he can be a franchise QB.

Disappointing that we already had to make a group pick on just the #2 pick. I think Williams was the right call.

I see Scherff as an OG in the pros so I wouldn't take him that high but I can't argue with the reasoning if you think he can play OT.

White to the Raiders seems like a perfect pick. Too easy.

Fowler to Washington makes a lot of sense as well.

I feel like we're off to a good start so far.

Terminology varies among systems and can even vary in the same system run by two different coaches. I have no idea what terminology Washington uses but Fowler fits the position that you are describing.

With the 6th pick in the TT Mock Draft the New York Jets select Vic Beasley 6'3 243 4.53 Clemson. Most explosive pass rusher in the draft. Great 1st step and can bend the arc, reminds me of Robert Mathis. Needs to improve against the run. Push rusher is a huge need for the Jets.

Wow, the pass on Mariota. I expected you to pass on him though.

I personally would pass on him too, but now I'm interested to see how far he might slide.

That was definitely a strong need though for sure. Calvin Pace is like 46 and has been ineffective forever. Beasley could be a day 1 starter. I don't hate him as much as I've heard others, but I don't think I like him as much as others that have banged the table for him either. He's got some work to do and would be a day 1 starter only because of the ineptitude in front of him.

That's a strong pick though and I get it. Well played.

I don't think Mariota is a true franchise QB. I think he's a great athlete who relies on his legs too much. He's the kind of guy who is going to suffer injury problems. If you draft a QB this high you've got to believe in him. Worst case RG3, Best case McNabb. I've got a couple of QB's in mind for later in the mock.

Love Fowler, very versatile and can convert speed to power better than any DE/OLB in this draft.

7(7) Bears (Lucky) -- On the clock
8(8) Falcons (steelbtexan) -- On deck
9(9) Giants (The Pencil Neck) -- In the Hole

then...

10(10) Rams (beerlover) --
11(11) Vikings (bah007) --
12(12) Browns (bah007/WolverineFan) --

For sure, I hear you. I'll be on the lookout. Better hope I don't grab them before you.

The Chicago Bears select:

Marcus Mariota QB Oregon

The Bears finally reel in a franchise QB of their own.

I'm not liking this pick at all, but the Falcons need a Leo type LB for Quinn's defense.

With the 8th pick in the TT Mock Draft the Atlanta Falcons select Randy Gregory 6'5 235 OLB Nebraska. Great burst with long arms. Better against the run than given credit for. Possesses Aldon Smith type abilities. Both good and bad. Send Gregory to the Aaron Hernandez school of how to beat the NFL drug testing.

Wow... you're actually good with Geno Smith??
:mcnugget:

Not at all,

I've got my eyes on a couple of guys next rd. I'm not as high on Mariota as others.

You know if this was in Radio City Music Hall the Jets fans would boo you unmercifully. Good thing the draft is in Chicago this year. Speaking of which, given his pick, Lucky can probably run for mayor
:)

The Lucky mayor,

I like it

A little late for The Pencil Neck over in Spain. He'll probably make his pick while we're sleeping.

Who should we PM our pick(s) to in case we're not around to make the selection? Anyone who has selected and is not scheduled to make another pick? I was thinking of PMing htownfan32.

You can make a list for me. I will be leaving the office about 11:00 tomorrow and will be back around 2:00.

I had PM'd my pick to Blake. Was there someone else I should have sent it to?

New York Giants select: Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia

This is kind of against the grain and taking a risk on a RB but Coughlin's an old school guy and pairing this monster with Shane Vereen gives them a two-headed monster until this kid proves himself.

And after all the crap you gave me for wanting him at 16...
:)

With the 10th selection in the 2015 Texans Talk Mock Draft the St. Louis Rams select - Amari Cooper, WR (Junior) 6007 211 Alabama.
