Texans 2015 Free Agency

Not really on Keenum. Basically he illustrates to stop putting everything on the QB. The difference was Crennel coached a better D result than Wade. Keenum's rating was down (78.2 to 72.2). 2013 Keenum wasn't good enough to overcome the 24th ranked D. 2014 his same performance was good enough to win with the 7th ranked D.

Well atleast you will have to give you' got to give BOB this much credit, he didn't put Keenem in positions to throw a bunch of INTS and take 20 yd sacks. So the defense could control the game. With Keenum at QB BOB realized that sometimes a punt is your best friend.

The week 16 game vs. Baltimore was one of the best coaching jobs I have ever seen. After years of mixed results and unfulfilled promise under Kubiak, i am not sure how any Texan fans would be less than ecstatic about a future with OBrien.

Well, I don't think finishing better than 9-7 would have been as helpful to the franchise as identifying a QB long term. That didn't happen in 2014. Hopefully, it happens in 2015.

Who would I have chosen in hindsight? In foresight, I was for taking Bridgewater. Nothing has changed my opinion. But, I'm not Bill O'Brien. He needs to find the QB he wants to coach. Sooner, the better.

So, I think OB planned on finding out if Mallett was the long term answer. I accept the point that when all the games were done, we still didn't have that long term answer, but I do think that OB had a plan.

And I appreciate you putting a name to your assertion. Couldn't agree or disagree with you, with Mallett having an incomplete grade last season. Just nice to see someone not speak in analogies and hypotheticals.

You're really trying too hard. Go with something accurate - OB picked Crennel and gets credit for that.

Keenum on the other hand had a lower TD % and higher INT % under OB. I'm not knocking OB for that. You should really try to step back and realize OB did nothing magical with Keenum.

Other than, you know, win games.

Except winning 2 important games with him, after picking him up off the street. Nobody is suggesting that OBrien can turn Keenum into a good QB. We are impressed that OBrien could win games that mattered with a bad QB... That is the point. He built an offensive plan for Baltimore that had the defense confused and enabled the Texans to control the ball, continue to run the ball successfully, and win a game that both teams needed.

The issue here was making Keenum better. Here was the comment I was responding to:

OB got more out of Fitz and Keenum this year than anyone else has been able to.

Winning those 2 games was not a result of making Keenum better. It was a result of where he should get credit - hiring Crennel to get the D back in order and game planning.

Correct... Of course, nobody can coach and improve a player that isnt on the roster.

I read "getting more out of" as a reference to wins.

sandman was responding on better QB performance, to this comment:

O'Brien needs to pick a QB and coach him up. That's why he got the job.

Anyway, all I was talking about was the idea Keenum played better last season due to OB. He did not. Due to other decisions OB did get better results with Keenum.

What do you guys think of CB Perrish Cox SF UFA?

28 yrs old
Height: 6 ft 0 in

I'm not a Keenum fan. I do not want him on the Texans roster come Game 1, even as the #3. I'm not sure if you think I am arguing that he was a good QB. But as much as I love stats, QBR doesn't tell the whole story. He wasn't on the roster and simply plugged in because of injury. He came of the street. Or duck blind to be precise. And he wasn't coming back to the Kubiak offense that he played in the last few years. The only exposure to this offense was in training camp, four months earlier. And in less than a week OB not only game-planned but had Case comfortable enough that he was good enough not to lose the game for them. I'm not sure why you don't think that is a pretty damned good job by OB. No one is saying that he was All-Pro or should be the starter on this team. I mean, some are of course, but not anyone who doesn't wear Cougar Goggles.

Per source, Brandon Browner won't take a paycut to stay in New England. So they either exercise his option as it stands, or cut him by 4 ET

Word on TE Virgil Green is that he plans to remain in with the #Broncos on a multi-year deal worth close to $3M annually. #Bears bidding too

Really felt he fit BOB's wants in a TE

Just a refresher for what is going on over the course of the next 40 minutes (cross posted in the NFL section):

March 10 Prior to 4 p.m. ET, clubs must exercise options for 2015 on all players who have option clauses in their 2014 contracts

Prior to 4 p.m. ET, clubs must submit qualifying offers to their Restricted Free Agents with expiring contracts and to whom they desire to retain a Right of First Refusal/Compensation

Prior to 4 p.m. ET, clubs must submit a Minimum Salary Tender to retain exclusive negotiating rights to their players with expiring 2014 contracts and who have fewer than three accrued seasons of free agency credit

Top-51 Begins. All clubs must be under the 2015 salary cap prior to 4 p.m. ET

All 2014 player contracts expire at 4 p.m. ET

I think that's a BRIDGEwater too far.

Bye bye, Brooks

The #Texans are making an effort to sign Vince Wilfork. Need a nose tackle, and he's very familiar with Romeo Crennel.

Haven't heard a peep out of Terrence Knighton. Experienced, strong 2-gap DT, only 28. Any reason he wouldn't be a good look?

Openly turned down the Raiders because the money was not what he wanted. the Raiders have TONS of cap space.

Do the math

Guess the Texans are really gonna wait until the smoke clears to pick up some receivers. Might have to double dip once the draft rolls around.

Receivers are the most likely to make an impact in their rookie season. I suspect the draft is where we pick up receiver(s).

Bring in Wilfork, Bring back Pickett, and get us some "Over-The-Hill Gang" action going around here while they show Nix how it's done. I could get behind it.

And speaking of receivers, I heard that KC cut Dwayne Bowe and signed Jeremy Maclin. Is this old news, or is there an update on this?
