Texans 2015 Free Agency

Fair points by both you and TK.

I just don't see a market for a 32 year old that is the odd man out. The logical thing would be to just wait it out but NFL teams hardly approach things logically.

If Fitz gets cut, he should automatically become the best FA QB on the market (that's a disturbing thought), so I think a team like the Jets would give up a low round pick to keep from competing for him. Hell, if he goes FA, he might end up with a higher salary then he currently has, so they would possibly save money by trading for his current contract.

I think it depends on what you're looking for. If your looking for future upside, then Fitz is going to be at the bottom of that list, or near. If you're looking for a guy who can do his job, so you can worry on everyone else doing their job, then Fitz is your man.

Lot of other reasons why any of the other guys would be considered "the best" but if we're talking about the Jets, I think they want a guy that they "know" can do his job.

Did you take a good look at the FA QB list? All of the "good" FA were resigned, and there is a burning pile of trash left.

Well, now that Andre Johnson is officially cut, I really hope our Cult Leader can use some of his recruiting power to get Randall Cobb or Jeremy Maclin, you know, spend some of that cash we're saving.

Both are already taken. There is plenty of speed in the draft.

Oh no way bro? Damn, I didn't know that both were taken.

Well ****. Looks like our Cult Leader must come up with another plan.

At the risk of perpetuating the inane cult leader shtick, what specifically prompted you to call him that?
I missed the beginning of your grass roots movement.

Well....you see....when people act like they're in a cult....there's often a Cult Leader at the helm....

Can we maybe talk about each issue separately without all the labeling of Cult Leader v. Kubiak Lover, etc.?

FFS both coaches have made good and bad moves.

LOL

What could make an already big day in the NFL even bigger? Tim Tebow!

That’s what the folks at ESPN figured when they threw Tebow into the mix in a segment on today’s NFL Live. The segment was called “Overreaction Monday,” and it was intended to be a discussion of some over-the-top news items that could happen, but didn’t actually happen. One of those things was the quarterback-needy Texans signing Tebow.

The only problem was the ESPN illustrated the segment with what looked like a real breaking news graphic, and some people saw it and thought it was an actual breaking news update, and not just a discussion of a hypothetical. People were freaking out on Twitter, and some members of the media even bought it.

I hate ESPN... I literally only watch it for live sports. Even things like "NFL Live" aren't nearly as watchable as they used to be.

Fitz will have a strong market. He's a journeyman QB who has always found starting jobs before and is coming off a career year. I'm not talking a high $ strong market, I'm talking plenty of teams with strong interest in him at backup/starter tweener type money. That could well generate a draft pick.

On another note entirely, what sort of money is BJ Raji likely to set us back? Coming off 2 seasons ruined by injury, if the price is team-friendly, I'd love to see us take a punt on him regaining his form, could be a great piece to put in the rotation on Dline.

#Titans remain in the mix for former #Falcons receiver Harry Douglas, who visited last week. Sounds like team has good chance to land him

Douglas

Not a whisper about safety Kendrick Lewis. I know they are allowing him to test waters but I expected some info about him visiting.

Visiting who? us? he can walk down there right now since the official start of the league year is 3 PM tomorrow.

If we could resign Lewis, sign Wisniewski, Wilfork and Cecil Shorts, I'd be a happy camper

edit: Sign Worilds and maybe Rolando McClain for icing on top

Didn't McClain just get busted for a bunch of drugs????

McClains off field issues means we wont touch him.

Worilds is going to be severely overpaid.

Rest I could see except maybe Wisniewski. Everyone keeps saying move Jones to ceneter but I see BOB giving Ferentz from the practice squad every chance to win that spot.

I'd prefer Royal to Shorts. Shorts always seemed to have hands of stone to me. I always liked going against him because he could be counted on to drop a few wide open passes.

I figured he'd be better depth than Martin, but you could be right.

Yep won 9 games with one of the easiest schedules in the NFL.

And did it with a journeyman QB, who was replaced by a guy starting his first game ever, who was replaced by the journeyman because of injury, who was replaced by a 4th round rookie because of injury, who was replaced by a PS guy sitting in a duck blind because of injury.

You are trying way too hard.

That's all true. But, that's the QB situation O'Brien selected. It's not as if he was super aggressive in addressing the position. I can't give him all the credit for overcoming it when he was at least partially responsible. O'Brien needs to pick a QB and coach him up. That's why he got the job.

Well then, if the Texans can sign Hoyer today O'Brien is sitting pretty. He picked not one quarterback, but two. He is overachieving!

:)

He picked Fitz as an obvious stop-gap/transition QB while he prepped his QBOTF in Mallett. It is my opinion that even if Mallett had been there for TC, he was still going with Fitz then transition at some logical point like the bye week. He had a plan, and injuries changed that plan. That Fitz had a career year even while being replaced speaks volumes. That Mallett went into that Cleveland game on the road prepared and confident speaks volumes. That an 0-8 straight from the duck blind Keenum can be game-planned to two victories speaks volumes. OB got more out of Fitz and Keenum this year than anyone else has been able to.

In hindsight, in your opinion who should he have chosen as the QB that would have got this team past 9-7? I am honestly not sure who was on the market that qualifies.

Not really on Keenum. Basically he illustrates to stop putting everything on the QB. The difference was Crennel coached a better D result than Wade. Keenum's rating was down (78.2 to 72.2). 2013 Keenum wasn't good enough to overcome the 24th ranked D. 2014 his same performance was good enough to win with the 7th ranked D.

Well, I don't think finishing better than 9-7 would have been as helpful to the franchise as identifying a QB long term. That didn't happen in 2014. Hopefully, it happens in 2015.

Who would I have chosen in hindsight? In foresight, I was for taking Bridgewater. Nothing has changed my opinion. But, I'm not Bill O'Brien. He needs to find the QB he wants to coach. Sooner, the better.
