why should they? No reason to yet.If preliminary free agency starts in less than 24 hours why haven't the Texans released Johnson?
yep he will really be willing to play hard after going through this and taking a huge pay cut and in his mind at least being belittled. Shaming someone is not in any motivational technique I've heard of.I go bed ever night, and pray, this just some ploy by the Texans, to shake Dre and his camp up a little bit.

The continued Schaub love by you and others.
He was a below average quarterback from day one, who had inflated numbers because our receivers made circus catches to cover up his inability to hit a moving target, and turned one yard dump offs into big gains.
Yet folks keep burying their face in his crotch and taking deep breathes.
To each his own ...
It, like Schaubs stats, is one of the most overrated things in history. That being said, he wouldnt have those stats without receivers making acrobatic catches to make up for his lack of accuracy. The team went 12-4 ... the receivers put up nice receiving yards, in spite of Matt ... Matt was the beneficiary of a lot of others people skills, making up for his lack of having any.
U think we can get a,5th for Andre like the Brandon. Trade that just happend ....???

That is a very good question. The "Texans East" have already released Wilfork. The Colts have released Wayne. Why don't the Texans cut Johnson?
1) They still have hopes for a trade, or one is in the works.
2) They want to bring him back, reduced salary or not.
3) They don't respect their aging veterans as these other clubs do.
4) They know damn well he's going to the Colts and he'll get his "40 catches" in the two games the Texans play the Colts.
5) They are the new, tough Texans and they are making a statement. (A "cut off the nose to spite the face" moment).
Anyway, it's late and the growler and cigar were good. That's all I have.
No. Marshall is younger and his cap hit was about half of AJ's. I don't think anyone will trade for AJ and absorb that huge cap hit for a relatively old WR.
All off the above for 500 Alex
6) How this went down isn't what was sold to McNair and there is some scrambling going on.

You don't trade cap hits. The new team only accounts for the new money. The old team keeps the old money ($5.625 for Marshall, $7.3 for AJ). Marshall will count $7.7 for the Jets. If traded AJ would count $11.5 if he attends all the off-season stuff, a mil less if he does not.

Under O'Brien, players are expected to put the team first. Those who violate this rule will be in the dog house and with a strong likelihood of seeking employment elsewhere....New sheriff in town has different rules...
Does anyone on this site really believe that OB made this move without Bob McNairs pre-approval?

No way.
Bye Bye AJ. Maybe your new team won't mind you missing OTA's. I think OB did.
AJ was the "good" AJ as long as things were going his way. New sheriff in town has different rules.
I don't think OB is a pampering type of coach.

No way in hell did McNair not know this. None.
Exactly. I suspect that Billy made it clear in the beginning of his negotiations with McNair for his his job that when and if the time came when he (O'Brien) felt it was necessary to part ways with veteran players, even the teams most iconic player and somebody who McNair was very sentimental about, that he O'Brien could on his own cut such players as he did with Andre just as Belicheck did with the Patriots iconic NT this week.
Then McNair's sit-down with AJ last year, assuring him that he would retire a Texan, makes absolutely no sense. McNair made a promise he just gave up any final say in.
And if I'm a F/A interested in coming to the Texans, my price just went up because I'm just a piece of meat...

I can see this, I can see McNair being surprised by the news and being pissed about it. Problem is how to make it right now? If AJ's meeting with OB really did go as he said, how can you possibly bring him back as a happy employee? Extend his contract and make it fully guaranteed? Will even that do it? There seems to be a rift between the two that may never be closed.
Again, we have heard nothing from the Texans side, but they will have to make some kind of announcement soon I would think.
McNair surprised? LOL
Who runs the damn team?
Technically nothing changed. They told AJ that his role would be reduced...he is the one requesting to be traded/ released. I doubt McNair gave any guarantees about playing time/ receptions/ TD's.
Then AJ would have been gone last year and/or McNair wouldn't have made the statements he did because he would have seen this coming.
Ok that's a valid point, and I hear your logic, but a whole season has passed since then and maybe Billy has a different take on Andre after standing on the sideline and watching him play for him (play for O'Brien) a whole season and also after watching Hopkins play and now only after last year views Hopkins as his clear #1 WR an now wants a difference sort of play for his #2 WR who he feels he can replace Andre with for less cap. Could be a lot of things since the conclusion of last year ? If Billy is as smart as many think he is, then I would think his football intellect is flexible and open to amending and and still evolving.
The thought that McNair didn't know what was going down from the McNair/Kubiak/Schaub apologist club is laughable and shows true ignorance of the Texans power structure.
True ignorance is thinking omnipotence and omniscience coexist in owners. The former they have, the latter no. Haven't seen anyone suggest McNair knew nothing about this, but it's entirely possible he didn't know everything.
But carry on with this straw man "knew nothing" rejection.
Times are a changing, time to get on board with the new way BOB is running things.
How did I know you would be responding with this sh!t very quickly.
Somebody still holding onto the old regimes way may be a touch butthurt/defensive?

Lets just hope he knows what he is doing when it comes to talent management. His first draft is yet to pay a meaningful dividend now lets see how he does with his first Free Agency (with real money to play with.)

Yes...6'-3"/313 lbs with 33" arms and 10 3/8" hands. I'm wanting him also...I'm hoping Wisnuski (SP) is oicked up in FA. That guy is what BOB is looking for at C. IMHO

I honestly don't understand this kind of thinking. If Andre was grossly overpaid because his production dropped, I can understand. Or if he never was worth plus money to begin with.
But he can still play. Any coach worth his salt should be able to find a way to win with Andre. What's better than having Hopkins & Cobb on the same team? Hopkins, Cobb, & Andre.
I understand his cap is out of whack, but I'd much rather they work towards getting it fixed, than just getting rid of him. If they can't work it out, fine. Let him go. But this seems more like choping off our nose to spite our face.
He's not what he used to be, but he's still a plus player. Still better than every receiver we've ever had not named DeAndre Hopkins.
AJ doesn't want to be a #2 and doesn't think he's anything other than a #1 receiver. I don't blame him for that but I think he may be falling prey to the classic issue of a player not being able to see or accept their failing skills as they age.

According to AJ it was non-starter i.e. no better than #3.
I don't understand how we "can't be sure" what was said in the room, but we're positive Andre doesn't believe he's anything less than a #1.
For all we know Hopkins was "designed" as the #1 all year & Andre still garnered more targets. Like I said before, why would OB wait a full season before working Andre into his "new role"?
& Andre has never been so selfish that he "demanded" to be the offense's focus. He didn't demand that when Arian continued to get carry after carry, or OD & Dressen got all the end zone targets.
To be "this" upset, it's easier for me to believe they described a role drastically different from what he played in 2014 & I don't think he was the #1 in 2014.
Like I said though, unless we were there, we don't know how accurate that is or if AJ focused on the worst possible case or something.
And I thought AJ said that he considered himself to still be a #1 receiver. Wasn't that part of what he said?
Shouldn't Rick smith be lookin to trade aj they told aj agent he can seek a, trade b UT Andre does not want to be traded he wants to be cut
Smith is lazy this is the off season. It's his time to shine get at least a 6th for Andre I would say 5th but this is Rick smith we are talking here
I'm sure they already explored trading him before the conversations and discovered that nobody was willing to take on that contract.
I'm sure they already explored trading him before the conversations and discovered that nobody was willing to take on that contract. Telling a player that he is free to seek a trade is a last ditch effort to show him that he is not worth what he thinks he is... hoping that he will come back to the club and negotiate a smaller deal.
That would have been really stupid since that gets leaked all the time.
