2015 free agents

Im at about 75% sure Suh is in our division next season with the Jags or Colts. Hope we move away from Myers at center. If not it could be bad, very bad

Great, that's what we need. Another dirty thug defensive tackle in our division. Was starting to miss Albert Haynesworth.

Forgive me if this has been asked and answered but I didn't read back through the previous 150+ posts. What would you guys think if the Texans seriously went after Julius Thomas-TE from Denver? He's only 27 yoa. and one of the best TE's in the NFL. 2015 is a poor year for TE's in the draft, and we just freed up some money and need a pass catching asset with AJ leaving.

Who said AJ was leaving?

Trent Cole couldn't get his wish and Brandon Graham is also headed the door. My story: http://goo.gl/2E1uOi

Did more digging. Told by two league sources that Trent Cole's days with the #Eagles are going to end. Team will eventually release him.

Starting to hear talks btw Eagles and both Trent Cole + Brandon Graham aren't progressing very well.

Adam Caplan ‏@caplannfl
#Titans claimed DE Jonathan Massaquoi off waivers from #Falcons. Cut S Bernard Pollard.

Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter
Vikings say they are trading Matt Cassel to Buffalo for an undisclosed draft pick.

Ben Goessling ‏@GoesslingESPN
Hearing #Vikings already have another backup in mind. Charlie Whitehurst is a name to keep in mind; was with Turner in San Diego.

Vince Wilfork's option not picked up by NE...becomes a free agent.

I can see Wilfork being one of the FA coming to Houston because of previous connections to our coaching staff.

But I wouldn't expect he'd be too expensive. He's a 10 year vet...

I see him getting a good hard look and possibly offer based on what you said. Also to note, I think NE is trying to keep their secondary together (Revis, McCourty) which means that they will most likely be looking for a solid NT in the draft. They have no talent at the position currently. Keep that in mind if you see one slipping into the 20's.

Depends on how you define too expensive. He's getting whacked because he was due $8.5 mil in new money this season.

How'd you feel about 2 years $10-12 mil? I'd do that.

I would give him that contract with 8.5 signing bonus. That would guarantee he would become a Texan. Watt/Wilfork on the same DL with Nix learning from them would be an ideal situation.

Why would the Jags sign Cobb to a big contract?

They've got a good young WR corps. Lee/Robinson/Hurns/Blackmon supposedly has gotten his life together.

Graham wants to play in a 4-3 again. Doesn't like the 3-4 at all. He also thinks he can get way more on the open market than what the Eagles were offering him.

There's speculation that we're dumping big contracts because we have a target in mind. I wouldn't think Wilfork would be enough to justify the Myers/Johnson thing.

We should be able to afford him, I think, without dumping salaries.

I would want his cap number to be between $3 & $5M & I wouldn't want to be married to him for more than a couple of years.

$8.5M divided by two (year contract) equals $4.25M

$1.2M salary... Makes for a $5.5M cap number.

If he decides not to play in 2016, we're on the hook for $4.25M

I don't know about that. Instead, shave that signing bonus by $3M or so, split it up as roster bonuses in both 2015 & 2016... leaving about $2.5M if he decides not to play in 2016.

Not sure what makes you think he may decide not to play in 2016.

If he retires the prorated signing bonus is owed to the team. Nothing wrong with roster instead of signing but if the money is the same on a 2 year contract I wouldn't let that hang a deal.

Funny how the Pats do this so often that it's not even a big deal. No mass hysteria by the fans and the players there know its coming.

Texans fans need to be conditioned to it after all the years of Kubiaks "good Ole Boy network" with no accountability

I'd like to see Wilfork during A Houston July-August training camp. Dude would need to wear a continuous drip IV around his belt

They've also been to like 9 of the last 12 conference championship games and 6 of the last 12 super bowls (winning 4). The fan base and the players have given the FO a ton of leash because they have proven to do an exceptional job of building a winning team every single year.

Texans brass...not so much.

So when they stop doing what they were doing, fans cry. When they continue doing what they were doing, fans cry.

Can't have it both ways.

If we're saying he is owed $8.5M for this year

& we sign him to a two year $10M deal with an $8.5M signing bonus...

Then I get a $1M in salary in 2015, I'm going to have a hard time not feeling like I'm playing year one for $9.5M & year two for $1M.

If you're saying that the team will get back $4.5M... I'm thinking about having sore ankles or back spasms.

Could've swore Brady pitched a fit about losing Mankins last year.

MJD just retired.

C'mon. Players understand signing bonuses and contract lengths.

There is no reason to think Wilfork is some sleazy sluggard who wouldn't finish out the contract.

I used to think the same about Ed Reed. Now... I don't know.

We can do this!

Devin McCourty (S, NE)
5 years, $41,632,662 ($19.7M guaranteed)
Average Salary: $8,326,532
The Patriots surprised plenty of people when they opted to use the franchise tag on K Stephen Gostkowski over McCourty. This leaves less than 2 weeks to hammer out a long-term deal before he hits the open market, and signs are pointing toward him doing so. Statistically he falls just below Earl Thomas and Jairus Byrd, so his $8.3M annual average value makes sense (ranks 4th among active safeties)

If they'd do this and sign Wilfork to a 2 year deal then it justifies the cap clearing.

yeah, and they can do that and still keep our guys

This would be great and very doable. However I see BB letting Revis go and keeping McCourty.

An offseason of adding McCourty/Wilfork and drafting a LB like Heeney would be a great offseason. Most of the rest of the draft could be spent on the offensive side of the ball and if somehow/someway Clowney could make it back that's a SB caliber defense. (Not that I'm counting on Clowney making it back.)

Don't have to worry about Marshall anymore

Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter 8m8 minutes ago

Bears have agreed to trade WR Brandon Marshall to the Jets pending a physical, per league source.

I think the Pats are able to get a long term deal together with Revis and lower his $25M cap hit. That will then give them the money they need to re-sign McCourty.

Yeah, either McCourty takes less to stay in NE or he rings the cash register big time in someplace like OAK who has to go on a spending spree.
