Pernell McPhee anyone?
Give me Randall Cobb 8-9 mil per yr over 4 yrs. Even if that means cutting AJ. Cobb is dynamic and can KR/PR.
How much would we have to eat to cut AJ? Wouldn't it be quite a bit?
How much would we have to eat to cut AJ? Wouldn't it be quite a bit? So you're basically paying 9M plus that amount for the difference between AJ and Cobb's production.
That sounds like a waste of money to me. And that's nothing against Cobb as a player, who I think is fantastic.
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Brian Hoyer admitted Saturday that the events of this offseason, including offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan walking out and the Text-gate scandal involving general manager Ray Farmer, will impact his decision on whether or not he returns to the Browns.
"I think what happened at the end of the season speaks for itself with Kyle (Shanahan) and Dowell (Loggains),'' Hoyer said after signing autographs for two hours at The Great Big Home and Garden Show at the I-X Center. "I mean, you don't just leave a job to leave. So to say that I was unaware I think I'd be lying to you, but to the extent, I had no idea. I'm just as interested as all of you to see what happens.''
Hoyer, who's set to become an unrestricted free agent on March 10, acknowledged that the circumstances surrounding Shanahan's departure and Text-gate will impact his decision on whether or not to return to the Browns.
"It obviously will, I think,'' he said...
he could come here for da cheaps alla cheaper then fitz wut 5millz but I doubt he will do that he has got kids to feed
Here come the cuts of the next few weeks: Colts released S LaRon Landry, ILB Andrew Jackson, OT Xavier Nixon.
Josh McCown just got released from the Bucs. Weren't we luring him last year?
As a Bucs season ticket holder this makes me happy. What a waste of money and time.
The Cowboys are not exercising their option so Henry Melton DT will be UFA. That's a guy to look at for Crick upgrqde/competition/rotation.
CJ1K anybody ..?? Calvin Johnson anybody
I know we got foster and BLue and 2 other guys crowded backfield but hey ..?????
Calvin Johnson is the #1 WR for Detroit. and he's under contract.
So what are you talking about?
Please God stop quoting him.
Josh McCown just got released from the Bucs. Weren't we luring him last year?
PFT/NBCAccording to Adam Schefter and Mike Rodak of ESPN.com, McCown has taken a trip to Buffalo, with the goal of working out a contract on Monday.
buffalonews.comFree-agent quarterback Josh McCown visited the Buffalo Bills today, but left without a contract. The Bills did not even talk salary with McCown's representative, according to a league source. McCown has at least one and maybe two other visits with NFL teams lined up, the source said....
#Packers waived TE Brandon Bostick. Leaves them with 3 TEs on roster.
#Colts released OLB Shaun Phillips.
It is not promising that tight end Julius Thomas will return to the Broncos.
During the NFL scouting combine this week, the Broncos are meeting with agents of several of their free-agent players, including Terrance Knighton, Demaryius Thomas, Orlando Franklin and Rahim Moore.
There is no meeting scheduled, however, with Frank Bauer, the agent representing Julius Thomas. The talented, but ankle-troubled tight end apparently wants to test free agency when the market opens March 10. He could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
The Broncos had offered Julius Thomas a multi-year contract worth $8 million a year back in July a deal that would have made him the third-highest paid tight end behind only Jimmy Graham and Rob Gronkowski.
Julius Thomas got off to a terrific start in 2014, setting a nine-game NFL record with 12 touchdown catches. But then came the second serious ankle injury of his young career, a setback that limited Thomas to only five catches none for touchdowns in the Broncos' final seven games.
It's still possible the Broncos could re-sign Thomas, although he will be able to first seek bids from other pursuers. He figures to draw heavy interest, because when healthy, Thomas is difficult to guard...
He's had recurrent and very significant ankle problems in his career. In his rookie year (2011), he suffered a high ankle sprain and missed all but 5 games. That year, he had virtually no stats. In the spring of 2012, he finally gave up the ghost and underwent preseason surgery. That year, he was active for only 4 games, and essentially played in none of them........accumulating 0 stats. In 2013, from October on, he had a recurrent ankle problem again. Add a nagging knee injury from November to the end of the 2013 season. That season, he made it to 14 games with some decent, not spectacular stats. Then, of course, his latest high ankle sprain occurred November last year, after which he was essentially nonproductive. In 2014, he managed 13 games of which he was severely limited in 3 of those.
As of 3 weeks ago, Thomas was still reported to be suffering from his ankle problem...............and he states that he expects to be among the highest paid TEs in FA............remember the last time he said all he needed for his ankle was an offseason of rest...............and then he finally accepted he needed to resign himself to surgery...........and a loss of most of the subsequent season.
More importantly it looks like Green wont hit the market.
Plan B Niles Paul?
Broncos tight end Julius Thomas may be on the way out of Denver.
Thomas, who becomes a free agent on March 10, has no talks scheduled with the Broncos, according to the Denver Post. That stands in contrast to the Broncos’ negotiations with all their other key players who are soon to be free agents.
Thomas wants to test free agency and see what he can make on the open market, which is why he turned down an offer months ago for a contract that would have made him the third-highest paid tight end in the NFL, behind only Jimmy Graham and Rob Gronkowski. If the Broncos make Thomas the best offer he gets, then he’ll stay in Denver, but he doesn’t appear interested in taking a hometown discount.
Broncos receivers Demaryius Thomas and Wes Welker also become free agents on March 10, and it appears that re-signing Demaryius Thomas is the Broncos’ top priority. The Broncos may have only one Thomas this season.
IF that is true, I can't believe he turned that offer down.
Using that chart we can apply a rough formula to a general range that the free agents should fall into.
Code:Player Value Jordan Cameron $6,814,144 Julius Thomas $5,317,305 Owen Daniels $5,217,071 Charles Clay $5,172,278 Jermaine Gresham$4,148,105 Lance Kendricks $2,998,572 Niles Paul $582,974
None of these numbers are meant to be firm numbers but they should be a guideline for valuation and in Thomas case it is way below the $8 million he turned down. A number of factors should cause a team to build a contract above or below these figures.
The Cowboys are not exercising their option so Henry Melton DT will be UFA. That's a guy to look at for Crick upgrqde/competition/rotation.
Maybe Rick gets ballsy, wait til Justin Houston is tagged, than pay the price
Maybe Rick gets ballsy, wait til Justin Houston is tagged, than pay the price
I don't understand. than pay what price? than what?
It would be our first round pick plus the tag right?
The price to pay for a tagged player.. What's it 2 second rd picks?
It's 2 1st round picks (if they use a non-exclusive tag). Not happening.
Why is it not happening?
Too high a price both in salary and picks. That's why it basically never happens.
And for the Texans in particular it's just too much money on the front 7. You're talking another monster JJ sized contract. Much better off using the picks and having rookie contracts.
I'll agree with that. But I'd say the salary is a bigger issue than the pics. With JH you know for a fact what you are getting, and he's played under RAC.
Staying with the New York Jets, I spoke with a league insider about the team's free agency plans. I was told the Jets intend to be big players in free agency, specifically on defense. I'm told they will target outside linebackers and cornerbacks as big-ticket items. They evidently will look for younger, taller corners. Potential free agents who fit that mold include Davon House, Chris Culliver and someone familiar to the team's new general manager Bob Maccagnan, Kareem Jackson.
Jets looking at Kareem Jackson? I would think so.
The Jets CB situation is a mess. Former Texan practice squader Marcus Williams started the 2nd half of 2014. Really hoping they target Revis and steal him from the Pats.
I thought so, too. But, the knock on him was always speed, and the Texans took the faster Darryl Morris off the Niners waiver wire. Basically, the Jets started what was the Texans 7th best CB.How did Marcus Williams look this yr? I thought he had great potential in TC with the Texans.
