Colts announce release of DL Ricky Jean Francois. Can't help but wonder if they make moves to clear way for impending BAL DL Pernell McPhee
Colts going to overspend in FA, again.

The Ravens have parted ways with veteran receiver and return man Jacoby Jones. The team terminated Jones’ contract Wednesday after his three years in Baltimore.... He was scheduled to enter the second season of a three-year deal, and was reportedly set to carry a $3.3 million cap hit.

Nothin' but a pure waste of God-given talent

Why, he's been bad for a few years now.

Guess I was going off of name recognition. I still think he'd make a decent ILB/run-stopper type. But few play the run-first game any more. I suppose the bottom line is that today's NFL required everyone in the back seven to have cover skills. That's where he falls short.

Reggie Bush would help out 3 areas of our team....back up RB, Slot WR, and PR/KR.

He's been productive everywhere he has been.

I thought it was too early to sign another teams fa's?

Francois was outright cut already. He's free game. All the other FAs that can't be signed are still with their teams until March 10th. Can't talk to those guys until March 7th.

Two more veteran WRs released this am: Brian Hartline and Harry Douglas. Free-agent WR group grows.

Aaron Wilson @RavensInsider
Chris Canty had contemplated retirement, but has been working out regularly since the season and intending to play

Ravens save $2.66 million against the cap by cutting Chris Canty

Should end Hoyer's time there.

They don't want a QB controversy. Hoyer is just young enough and just talented enough that he could command starter money. If they pay him like a starter they would have to start treating him like one.

McCown will play the veteran teacher role for Manziel. They are gonna give that kid the keys and let him wreck the car.

Another potential suitor for Kareem Jackson:
The Dolphins want to add at least one quality corner to upgrade over Cortland Finnegan, and free agents Kareem Jackson and Brandon Flowers are among those who have been discussed internally, according to a person with knowledge of Miami's discussions. (I'm sure there are other cornerbacks also of interest to Miami; these were merely two of the names we know have been talked about.)

Jackson, 26, a five-year starter for Houston, had three interceptions in 13 games in 2014 and quarterbacks had a 74.1 rating in his coverage area.

Wouldn't be surprised if Suh lands in the AFC South.

Im at about 75% sure Suh is in our division next season with the Jags or Colts. Hope we move away from Myers at center. If not it could be bad, very bad

Franchise tags:

Dez Bryant (n.e.)
Justin Houston (n.e.)
Demaryius Thomas (n.e.)
Jason Pierre Paul (n.e.)
Stephen Gostkowski
Charles Clay (tr.)

What is the NFL franchise tag?

It's a mechanism which allows a team, if it chooses, to tender a one-year offer to just one of its potential free agents. With slight variations to the calculus, the tag is basically worth the average of the top five salaries at the player's position. However a previously well-compensated player, such as Detroit Lions DT Ndamukong Suh, would receive 120% of his prior year's salary if it represents a better raise.

A player given an "exclusive" tag, which is worth slightly more, cannot negotiate with other teams. A player given the "non-exclusive" tag can deal with outside clubs, but if he's allowed to sign with a new team, his previous club is compensated with two first-round draft picks. (Four teams used the non-exclusive tag in 2014.)

What is a transition tag? It's essentially worth the average of the top 10 salaries at a player's position or 120% the value of his 2014 salary (whichever is higher). Players with the transition tag can negotiate with other clubs, but their original team does not receive draft pick compensation if they fail to match an outside offer. (Two teams used the transition tag in 2014.)

Projected franchise tag values by position for 2015 (per NFL.com): see tweets below

Deadline to apply tags: Monday, 4 p.m. ET.

Can a tagged player still sign a new contract? Once the player signs his franchise tender, he cannot negotiate with other clubs. But he does have until July 15 to reach a long-term contract with his current team, otherwise he must play the 2015 season under the tag.

I realize Chris Myers takes a lot of grief over the Kris Jenkins incident. But, the reality is there are few (more like zero) Centers that can handle Suh. That's why he'll get the $$$ he's going to bank.

I know we probably couldn't afford him, but I'd love to get Dockett to the Texans. He's been one of my favorites to watch for several years now. I'm sure Crennel could come up with something to utilize both he and Watt together. It'd be pretty friggin awesome to watch, imo

I was thinking the same thing. He just goes out there and plays hard. Love what he brings to the team. Sadly, I also believe he'll be out of our price range. Would be nice though.

It happened this year a lot as well. Every time they don't run a a ZBS schemed play Myers struggles with one on one's. Trade him to Denver for something. I guarantee Kubes would take him in a heartbeat.

#azcardinals offer to Dockett believed to be 1-year, $2.5 mil deal. Could get to $4 mil through play-time,production incentives.

If THAT is his going rate someone needs to wake up Rick Smith.

Even in a 4-3, you have a NT & an UT (up tackle). The UT is the DT that usually makes the big plays... Wilfork & Jenkins are freaks of nature. Suh usually plays the UT, he'll be lined up against the weakside guard, not the center.

Expect mutual UFA interest between Houston Texans and former Dolphins WR Wes Welker. Welker played for HC Bill O'Brien when coach at N.E.

He'll be 34 yrs. old when the season starts and sat out all of last season with an ACL injury. Haven't we learned our lesson with old injured expensive veterans? I'd pass on him.

Charles Clay got the transition tag.

Surprising. $7 million?
