Adam Caplan ‏@caplannfl#Eagles are going to release TE James Casey today, per source.
Eagles announced they released TE James Casey.
I'm kind of surprised he didn't work out with Chip Kelly's offense. It seems structured for a guy like Casey who's a jack of all trades.

He had signed a $14.6 mil contract, but only completed 2 of 3 years. Wonder how much he actually got.

Casey is the classic jack of all trades, master of none. He's not quite good enough to start at any position.
I wouldn't mind him back here, but he is not the answer at TE
Wonder if they could try to put him in the slot.........he's tough, not afraid of contact, has good hands, can run good routes and has always been a very valuable special teams asset.
J J Watt is a part time FB who's much better.Casey is the classic jack of all trades, master of none. He's not quite good enough to start at any position.

James Casey will forever be known for "the drop" to me. If he catches that ball against New England on the opening drive I think that game goes much differently.
I think it is safe to say that Casey was just never going to be that potential bad ass a lot of us thought he might have the potential to be. He just never did it on two teams now and he has been in the league for at least 6 or 7 years or so. Good luck to the guy. Doubtful that he ends up here, but I hope he maintains a career in the NFL.
Not really trying to defend Casey, but with Texans, they couldn't ever figure out how to use him. He was not a full time fullback, though they tried to make him one. His receiver skills were obvious, but he was never really utilized as such, concentrating on receivers on the team that had questionable consistent skills for that position. When he was picked up by the Eagles, he was instantly placed in a compromised situation in that they had a well-established starter, and the Eagles immediately after Casey's acquisition, took a TE at the very top of the 2nd round of the Draft who they did not want to waste by not immediately grooming into a starting position.
Hope Casey does get a more fair chance somewhere to break into the lineup.

Kubiak'ed!
*UPDATE*Cut by Eagles
Again? Damn, rough week for James. lol
Just messin. It was mentioned a page or two back
I think he was suggesting, subtly, that the title of the thread be changed from "The Cost of James Casey*UPDATE*Signed by Eagles" to "The Cost of James Case*UPDATE*Cut by Eagles".
HTH.

Ah, zoomed right over my head. Late night classes and early wake ups for work has my noodle fogged half the day now
FB/TE James Casey has 25% of the NFL (8 teams) requesting visits so far, but others are considering bringing him in.
