My money is on ferentz. The good thing is that OB isn't going to be like Kubiac and let guys of the hook that don't have their units performing well.
I like the different philosophy of BOB.

When we hired O'Brien, I said that the vibe I got from him was that the was the type of person who would hire his friends, but, fire them if they weren't working out.
Not sure if Dunn is a buddy of his, but, my point stands: O'Brien doesn't appear to be afraid to make staff changes if he doesn't like what he sees. If Dunn were under Kubiak he'd probably get an extension of several years. lol.
If I were the Special Teams coach, I'd be hiding in closets right about now...
Funny.
1st, I don't think Dunn was a friend of O'Brien's.
2nd, Lucky shows that PFF (who we all believe as credible) ranks our OL as 5th in the league
3rd, Dunn gets fired.
I'm slowly warming to OB, but if OB is firing a guy because he "doesn't fit" regardless of how well his unit is performing, we may be in big trouble. The anti-Kubiak.
Personally, I expect an OL to take time to gel & I think after Mallett's first game, the OL play picked up (DBrown said they started having meetings with the QB about that time).
I'm happy to see someone get fired, don't get me wrong. Just wondering.
If someone sees light at the end of the tunnel, you raise concerns the tunnel is caving in
Nah... not at all.
I'll tell you there's a train coming our way though.
They just announced it on 610.
I like it.
Could this not have stood on its own?
I hadn't listened to the radio today and I had no idea he was fired until I was just messing around waiting for the rockets to start.
Not complaining....mods do a great job. Best board I've ever been on as far as how it's run and all. Not even close.
But just wondering...it kind of got buried in here.
There were already 4-5 posts in here on the topic otherwise I'd have left it.
Ok. Makes sense.
Just saw there was a whole convo about it before mussops post.
Anyways regarding Dunn...
I thought the line performed better under him than Benton, but under Benton it seemed like a lot of technique stuff....under Dunn it seemed like guys were just lost at times.
I don't know. That's a very, very distant observation without having paid a whole lot of attention to specifics, but the line didn't seem to really progress as a unit over the course of the year.
I'd expect a good coach to have his line firing on all cylinders the later in the year it gets.
Like what I've heard about ferentz though. I really love that blocking style. It's art.
Is it confirmed Ferentz is in?
Ferentz...?
Just hopeful speculation by some of us so far.

now that IS interesting. Fifth best O-line performance, overall, in the league with all the mixing and matching we were doing early on plus the marked improvement of Newton....
This guy got fired WHY exactly??
Can’t tell you how excited I am that Mike Devlin is the new offensive line coach for Texans. Huge upgrade w/ very sharp man taking over.
My gosh, I personally REALLY, REALLY don't want this guy to be associated with the Texans, and I just saw on the Mort and Shefty show that there is a strong possibility that Doug Marrone comes to Houston to be on our coaching staff.
Why???

If Doug Marrone does not land a head coach job, sources say he will have an offer to join close friend Bill O'Brien as a Texans consultant
That's OK. As long as his advice isn't to coax Kyle Orton out of retirement (again).Chris Mortensen @MortReport

I still think that was overreacting. Marrone's job was to win, of course. But, his job was also to develop talent. I think he quit on Manuel too soon. I'm not saying the GM has done a great (or even good) job. But if he hadn't of opted out, I would've fired Marrone. No, his advice was 1) don't draft EJ Manuel in the first and 2) don't spend our 2015 1st round pick to trade up for Sammy Watkins -- both ignored by Whaley and Marrone had to "sell" to the fans. Orton they had to bribe with $5 million guaranteed just so they could have a QB.

This is why I think, like Parcells said, where the head coach controls the draft and the GM gets the guys the coaches tell them to get, is the right one.
When the GM and HC are of the same mind, it doesn't matter. But if they aren't, it could be bad.
If you've got one of those GMs that hire their HC, chances are pretty good they'll be of like mind.
Why would that be any more true than if the HC picked the GM?
Yeah. My opinion was that the 9-7 record was based upon the defensive play. How much Marrone had to do with that (or bringing in Schwartz) I don't know. It's not like the Bills had much to work with on offense. But Marrone knew that when he took the job. Buffalo isn't in a great spot, for sure. I'm sure he had his reasons for bailing. It's just that if I were the Bills GM, I would be looking for someone who's on the same page, anyway.Marrone led them to their best record since 1999.
Rex Ryan is walking into a very similar situation as he did with the Jets. Very good defensive personnel and an offense without a QB.
The big question is....will he get a tattoo of his QB with the Bills?
The right coach might make something out of EJ. He's not the right coach to do it.

Looks like Buffalo is going to land Greg Roman, SF's OC under Harbaugh.
That's adding another wrong coach IMO. Haven't seen any stellar QB development from Carr or Kaep under him.

We knew this.

JACKSONVILLE - The Jacksonville Sharks announced Tuesday that Director of Player Personnel Pat O'Hara will leave the organization in order to pursue an opportunity with the National Football League's Houston Texans.....
Texans hired Pat O'Hara as an offensive assistant coach and elevated Anthony Pleasant to a defensive coach.
Pat O'Hara is QB who excelled in Arena League, was a coach, broadcaster and worked as QB trainer on several movies like The Longest Yard
Anthony Pleasant was assistant strength and conditioning coach who's elevated to defensive assistant.
Interesting move, O'Hara goes from front office to coaching.
Edit, I see he was a Head Coach in 2014 so I guess his front office tenure never really got off the ground:
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_O'Hara
46 years old.
Edit, edit: "...in 2005 O'Hara served as a player-coach, playing quarterback and calling the plays as the team's offensive coordinator."
He was in The Waterboy!
Do we get Bobby Boucher or Fonzi as a package deal?
