2015 NFL Hirings/Firings

Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter

I'm guessing that means he got fired.

Probably, though they had similar QB situation to ours and his job couldn't have been easy. Great spot for Shanny jr to go.

A little sarcasm there cuz of Fisher

Falcons retain Dimitroff. The longer he's been with the team the worse both lines got. He's living off trading up to draft Julio Jones. Over time I've seen a lot more style/salesman than substance.

Bingo, one of the good-hair brothers gets a hair cut...

Albert Breer ‏@AlbertBreer
The Falcons also announced that both GM Thomas Dimitroff and the new coach will report directly to Blank. Kansas City is set up that way.

... Atlanta announced that ass't GM Scott Pioli will oversee pro and college scouting and the draft and report to GM Thomas Dimitroff.

edit:
Jason La Canfora ‏@JasonLaCanfora
Falcons have restructured the front office, but I'm told Thomas Dimitroff retains control of the 53-man roster and the draft...

Scott Pioli gets a new title and is more intimately involved with personnel, but final say is with Dimitroff

Sources: Madden sits in on Raiders interview with Shanahan

Ummm.

I have to think Mark Davis has little self confidence and/or competence.

I have no problem with him bringing in an expert to help him hire a HC, but I remember reading about how Al Davis would publicly denigrate him and call him stupid if he didn't have the right answer to a football question Al asked him in a meeting or something. That surely couldn't have helped the self confidence.

Sources tell @NFLonFOX that @Browns OC Kyle Shanahan asked for and was granted his release. QBs coach Dowell Loggains was fired

Michael David Smith ‏@MichaelDavSmith 18m18 minutes ago

Browns wouldn't be cleaning house on offense if they'd drafted Bridgewater.

Baby Shanny "released", Dowell Loggains "fired"...

Now we know who bit their tongue and who blew their stack when the front office forced them to start Manziel with playoffs in the balance.

Loggains has ties to Fisher and may land with Rams.

Mary Kay Cabot ‏@MaryKayCabot
#Seahawks Dan Quinn wants to hire Kyle Shanahan as his OC if he gets job, Quinn's a top candidate(Bills, Jets, Falcons, Bears and 49ers). Shanahan also interviewing for #Bills top job

Browns wouldn't be cleaning house on offense if they'd drafted Bridgewater.

Browns wouldn't be cleaning house if they avoided drafting Manziel. But doubt we'll see the owner fire himself.

Bears named Ryan Pace their GM.

[Perhaps we should rename thread "2015 NFL Hirings/Firings", Mods...???]

There's that & the fact that Hoyer was playing like crap. Play offs were not in the balance either way.

maybe Hoyer was playing bad at end of season because he was dinged up and Manziel was taking more and more of the reps in practice

'Asked if Manziel would be prepared for his first NFL start Sunday against the 8-4-1 Bengals, Pettine said "absolutely.'' With three games remaining, the Browns still have a shot at the playoffs if they win out.' -- cleveland.com/plaindealer/

True enough, but with the way Hoyer was playing, it wasn't going to happen.

I don't know if you were, but there were many here suggesting we bench Fitz in favor for Mallett two weeks before the bye. We "knew" our play off chances were slim & getting slimmer with every game Fitz started & Mallett rode the pine.

Manziel can be their scapegoat. We knew he wasn't ready to start for an NFL team & wouldn't be ready in 2014 before the draft. They can say what they want & there record can reflect whatever... but the factory of sadness... 8-8 was a pipe dream no matter how close they got.

Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter

Great hire.

If they can find a couple of OL to go with Mariota/Winston, combined with a receiving corps of Jackson/Evans/ASJ this could be a very dangerous team in a terrible division. Although I'm not convinced Lovie is the right guy for such a young team.

Bears prepared to make a major push for Ravens OC Gary Kubiak, per source. Kubiak now free to talk with teams about HC vacancies.
Makes sense. Going back to the Bronco WCO shouldn't be an issue for Cutler. Kubiak hasn't had this many weapons (Marshall, Forte, Jeffreys, Bennett) since the Broncos Super Bowl days. Now, he just needs a DC. I hear Wade is available.

http://fansided.com/2015/01/11/buffalo-bills-hire-rex-ryan/

After appearing to be almost a lock to be the Atlanta Falcons next head coach, Rex Ryan has pivoted hard in a new direction. Instead of taking the job in Atlanta, Rex Ryan has instead agreed to become the next head coach of the Buffalo Bills.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Buffalo Bills are set to hire Rex Ryan as their next head coach.

And little Shanny back as his OC?

Rex picking the Bills over the Falcons looks typical foolish Rex. He should have gone somewhere with a QB and O and built the D.

It makes perfect sense especially with them needing to fix rather than replace Cutler.

Would Wade actually be a surprise move?

And little Shanny back as his OC?

I bet little Shanny gets his own gig or works for dad who gets one instead.

Agreed. Your a defensive coach who has never had an offense worth a damn, you have a chance to go to a team with a pretty good offense and build the part of the team that you know - defense, and you opt to go to what isn't much different than where you were?

I don't get that, unless Atlanta is about to implode somehow with cap cuts and what not.

Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter
If Seahawks lost to Panthers, Jets were prepared to fly to Seattle last night to try to hire Dan Quinn as their head coach, per sources.

Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter
Bills expected to hire former 49ers OC Greg Roman as new OC to go along with Rex Ryan, per sources. The two worked together in Baltimore.

Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter
Bears' interest in Gary Kubiak makes sense. Only time Bears ever hired an HC with previous NFL HC experience was Paddy Driscoll in 1956.
**Interesting John Clayton just reported that "Kubiak is on their list, but not necessarily at the top of their list."

Mike Garafolo ‏@MikeGarafolo
Per @JayGlazer, "there's a thought if (the Broncos) lose today, could John Fox become available? If he is, he shoots to the top of lists."

That escalated quickly.

A day after losing in the playoffs, the Broncos are now looking for a head coach.

According to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, Fox and the Broncos have agreed to mutually part ways.

Entire Broncos staff was let go, given permission to seek other jobs.

People having to answer for some of the choices made yesterday.

Just heard John Fox is leaving Denver, any credible source to this? And wow! Didn't see that coming.

Edit: CBS Sports saying it, it's official http://fantasynews.cbssports.com/fa...86/report-broncos-coach-john-fox-parting-ways

I heard the rumor yesterday before the game was even played. Fox coached four years for the Broncos, won four division titles, made it to the divisional round all four years and had one Super Bowl appearance. Sometimes I guess that's not enough when the expectation is winning Super Bowls.

The rumor of Fox being fired was circulating before the game was even played. It basically said "If Denver loses Fox is out".

Bleacher Report's Jason Cole reports there's a "pretty good chance" coach John Fox gets fired if the Broncos lose to the Colts on Sunday.

Manning played with a torn quad, so they can't put all the blame on Fox.

If the entire staff is let go, it's a rebuild. That will probably include the QB.

wow, that kinda' blows my mind that Fox is out. I did not see that one coming, but then again, teams experiencing consistent success rarely part ways with their head coach.

They've gone all in on a very temporary dream team. It's a lesson on how hard SBs are to come by.

I think we're about to see the 1st QB/HC and GM/former QB for a couple years.

Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter
Denver DC Jack Del Rio is traveling to Oakland tonight for his second HC interview with Raiders.

Also, one HC candidate the Broncos want to interview is Seahawks DC Dan Quinn (who doesn't?).

Broncos told whole coaching staff they are now free to look for other jobs. But Broncos still hold their contractual rights.

Denver is going to hit that reset buttom was a good run with tebow era then manning but like all stacked dream teams that cant get it done it will thus implode

Kinda like how we did 2 years ago lol

Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter
John Fox declined HC interview with Jets, per NFL source. Hard to imagine turning down one HC chance unless there's real chance for another.

I dunno, I declined a Jets interview and have nothing else lined up. :kitten:

Man, I'd love to be a fly on the wall in that conversation between Elway and Fox.

Fox is a solid coach. He's taken two teams to the Super Bowl. While both have lost, let's not act like getting there is not an achievement in and of itself. Houston football fans should know all too well just how tough it is just to get to that particular game.

As it should be.

Man, I'd love to be a fly on the wall in that conversation between Elway and Fox...
Through Week 12 Peyton Manning was 3rd in NFL in pass attempts, 1st overall in 2013.

Elway won 2 SBs under Shanny which, like Kubes, has a run to pass offense. SB wins run/pass -- 1998: 39/22; 1999: 36/29. Control the ball, control the clock. Run game, especially ZBS advantage, is magnified at altitude...

My bet is Elway felt too much mileage was being put on Peyton's arm early and not enough work was done on the ground. Broncos emphasized the run late this season after Peyton's injury, but had 20 rushes and lots of missed down-field shots on offense in this loss. (And I found it curious to put Talib over TY instead of Chris Harris, Jr.)

Pure conjecture on my part. I'm no fly.
