Anyone else starting to feel optimistic?

Boring game from a boring team. They'll be lucky to win 6 this year, IMHO.

Fitzpatrick is exactly who I thought he was when they picked him up. Hopefully they can find a solution to QB by September 2015, either on the bench, free agency, draft, or trade. Because Fitz will never be more than what he is right now.

I know, put in Mallet and Savage.

Can't be worse.

I was a draft Bortles with the first pick guy. I know first round quarterbacks bust frequently. I know you aren't supposed to draft for need. However, the Texans are being held back tremendously by the lack of an NFL QB. I would have started one of the other guys a couple of games and thrown Bortles out there. No guarantee it would work, but I'd have done that. There is also no guarantee they get a franchise quarterback next year. I think the legacy of David Carr at #1 still hangs over this franchise like a black cloud.

The way I look at it, the HC has to be absolutely in love with a guy to take him in the first round. He shouldn't go on what "everyone" else thinks. I know most don't, but I think many either fall for the hype or do what people expect.

Taking a QB in the first is hard to overcome if you pick the wrong guy.

If there isn't a guy that he's in love with take a guy mid-late second or third. Surely you can find a Foles, Cousins, Wilson, or Schaub if you're willing to put in the time. Then if you happen across a guy you're in love with, a Rodgers, Flacco, Cutler... whatever you can do what you gotta do to get him.

Just don't get too attached. If the guy is playing like Brees in year three you trade him while you move forward with your Rivers. If he's playing like Kolb... eh.

Not sure about optimistic just yet, but we do have the same record, and he same type of team the 2000 Ravens had at this point in the season. So you never know ...

Except they had a QB who would start on at least half the teams in the league (and who stretches the field).

The next 5 games are nut cutters. I will be optimistic if the record at the bye is 6-3. But that is a tough do and only two of them are at home.

Color me WAY optimistic if the record is 6-3 at the bye. Cautiously optimistic if the record is 5-4. Really bummed if it's worse than 5-4.

I'm thinking we'll go 2-1 (with Fitz) over the next three games (PIT, TEN, PHI) & go into the bye week at 5-4.

And if Pittsburgh loses this Sunday, they'll be looking at the Texans and be thinking the same thing.

:kubepalm:

It's a game I thought we didn't stand a chance to win before the season started. Now, I think we have a chance to win, a good chance.

I'm pretty sure we're going to beat Tennessee.

& the Philly game I think is now on the, "We might steel one" list.

Texans had two close games against superior teams. The fact that they didn't roll over after the first quarter last night should be very encouraging.

The team still has no QB though.

I like your optimism, but we still have Fitz as qb. If he plays well, then I could see the team have motivation to win, but if he starts stinking it up, then that could deflate the team like it did last year.

I'm optimistic that football will not piss me off this weekend. I'm optimistic about the possibility of finishing the ottoman I'm building.

I never said Fitz was anything but SUCK.

What I did say is that the OL and scheme aren't helping him.

I think Dunn being a cruddy oline coach might have something to with it. I wasn't a fan of the hire then and he hasn't done much to change my mind.

Watching Duane Brown , who's been one of the leagues best struggle , I cant argue with that.

Actually, I'm not overly impressed with any of those teams.

...but I'm not impressed with us either.

and two of those games are on the road.

Kelly's offense is designed to tire out athletic defenses.
Given BoB/StinkPete's(tm) propensity for first half 3-and-outs,
I'm guessing the Texans will be down by at least 3 scores by half.

Very unlikely they come back in that one. Might be the first
Kubiak-like beating of the BoB era.

I'm thinking like the last time we played the Packers here.

I know I'm optimistic about this season, I know some of you are as well. I'd like to hear more about your optimism. Specifically...

There is a sense or urgency for Jadeveon Clowney to play at Pittsburgh next Monday Night. At 3-3 we can't afford anymore losses if we want to fight for a wild-card spot. I expect the Texans to beat the Steelers, Titans and Eagles and head into a much needed bye week with a 6-3 record.

We'd be no worse than one game back of the Colts for first place and in the driver's seat for one of the AFC wild-card spots. With 14 days to prepare against the Browns. We should be 7-3 after 10 games. Thinking positive here.

From another thread.

My optimism says we're going to be in position to win each of the next three games & I'm anxious about seeing how those games turn out. I couldn't pencil in a win for any of them, just hope that we get 2 out of 3. BoP... why do you expect to win all three?

Even Tennessee looked like a pretty good team once Whitehurst took over. I like your enthusiasm & hope you can help me build that kind of confidence in this team.

Yep I am optimistic we will be 0-0 each game and then the whistle will blow and.....:headhurts:

Ok... not a damn thing went the way I had hoped over the previous five games, but after yesterday, my optimism is higher than ever. We're in a hole, a deep one & the odds of us making the post season are longer now than they ever were.

But I believe.

But I believe.

I'm not predicting it, and I haven't researched it to confirm it, but mathematically I think we control our own destiny. If we win out, we should win the division.
Winning out would give us the following:

11-5 overall record
5-1 division record
10-2 conference record

Without doing the research, I believe that if Indy wins all their games except the one vs. HOU, they would end up with identical overall record and division record, but they already have three conference losses, so we would win the tie breaker.

BTW, all remaining games are in-conference, and 4 of 6 are in-division.

*disclaimer* As I stated, I haven't researched this, so y'all feel free to correct me on possible scenarios, or misinterpretation of the tie breakers

*EDIT* I didn't realize that all of this is being discussed here:

Preseason I posted 10-6 or 9-7 based on replacing the head coach and the weak schedule. Recently I was barely hanging onto the possibility of 9-7 because of the new head coach's choice of starting quarterback and apparent reluctance to replace him.

At this point after changing the quarterback and beating the Browns, I think 10-6 is probable and 9-7 is very likely the worst the team will finish.
