Texans roster moves

Aubrey, Ferentz, any of the PS guys.

My point is that Labhart is not suddenly lost to us, he's just not practicing with us right now. If we start feeling we need to add some more WR depth, we can put him back on the PS just by cutting someone else that no one wants from our PS.

We just cut Labhardt to make room for Aubrey on the PS. Why would we go back? Plus, we don't know if it was a club cut or player cut yet. But I suspect having a CB on the PS will be more helpful in the long run than yet another WR that we don't use.

I guess I'm coming from the standpoint that I trust the coaches on this one. I liked the whole Labhart story but at the end of the day, the coaches have a tremendously better grasp on a player, especially a back up or PS guy, than we ever will. :worldpeace:

S Josh Aubrey will replace Labhart on the practice squad. Aubrey, 23, is in his second season in the NFL after playing in 6 games for the Cleveland Browns last season. Labhart was a fan-favorite during the preseason and seemed likely to have a role on the Texans, but the Texans have decided to part ways with him.

Guess they wanted a safety on the practice squad more than a receiver. Aubrey has been through and released from the Browns and Seahawks.

Josh Aubrey, CB (2013 UDFA)
Height: 5' 10" (1.78 m)
Weight: 201 lbs (91 kg)

Promising start w/Browns in 2013 ended with ankle injury/IR.

We were thin at CB late in the game last week w/ JJo & Bouye "going in for IVs".

Just an FYI, the unfortunate part of this injury is that it was not solely an ankle injury as usually reported. During a practice, on the same play, he sustained a DUAL joint injury........one to the ankle joint, the other to the knee joint. It was this combination injury that led him to be placed on the IR. Two-joint injuries could be a set up for potential longer-term lower limb instability/injury.

Well at least the Texans didn't waste say, a third round draft pick on him....

Not to derail the thread, but have you noticed any differences between the new regime and the old one in how they treat injuries? By that I mean something like Clowney having surgery right away vs. letting him rest, things of that nature.

To make Thorn happy?

Thorn was acting like Labhardt was gone forever because we cut him but during the season, there's generally a lot of players going on and off the practice squad. Guys get signed, cut, and then signed back to the PS all the time. Labhardt can always be signed back if we have some need for him.

That's all I was saying. I wasn't making some case for him to be re-signed.

At this early stage, the sampling of injury examples is too small to derive any true conclusions. Yes, Clowney was taken to surgery quickly. But with a lateral meniscus tear, as opposed to a medial meniscus, the decision is usually empirically made for you. I am not sure that the decision for "excision" of the meniscus tissue was made because the extent of meniscus damage was very small....or it was simply to avoid losing him for the season by doing a "repair." Not addressing his bone spurs and the significant possibility of a brewing hip problem is still somewhat concerning to me.

What we do know is that it will be more difficult (but not necessarily impossible) to determine what the injuries and the extent of the injuries are than with the last regime. But recovery times and re-injury rates will help tell the stories.

The only time that we will ever know for sure that OB is lying to us is if the coroner is called in.:tiphat:

think he means being proactive as opposed to reactive but just a guess. at this point have no reason to think O'Brian would lie about anything, seems very open, direct & no non-sense.

There are two ways to hide things. One is to withhold it and this has become difficult. But the other way is to include it in an avalanche of information and this is the preferred method of lawyers and politicians these days.

Many coaches are now reporting EVERYTHING on injury reports because of grief if they fail to mention something that seemed minor at the time. So now that they report everything, who knows what is significant and what is not? It appears OB is following the Belecheat model in this.

O'Brian had no part in "they" or "Ed Reed". far as information its extremely limited yet insightful.

Who is this O'Brian guy you speak of? J/K nothing to add here, just singing in the rain

but... but.. none of the injuries is "life-threatening"; O'Brien told us so himself.

Ricky Sapp is happy to be back. Stayed and worked out in Houston before getting re-signed.

Tania Ganguli ‏@taniaganguli
"I felt like it was an upgrade in the pass rush and hopefully we'll see an addition on special teams," O'Brien on adding Sapp. #Texans

Texans terminated the contract of CB Marcus Williams. Removes him from the team's practice squad.

Assume for a punter. Hope we can get him back.

Kicker Chris Boswell punted 15 times for Texans during preseason w/ 44.3 avg w/ long of 50 & 6 inside the 20. Being added to practice squad

The Texans are signing former Rice kicker Chris Boswell to their practice squad.

You're not allowed to discuss knees, sir! :|

Jinxed him.

I can't tell you how embarrassed I am..........."e" is so close "w."

The fact that the Packers never brought Pickett back after Raji tore his bicep isn't a good sign.

That said, a blocking dummy would be an upgrade at this point.

Watched some more of the game last night. Crick and Jamison were pushed back into the 2nd level a lot. Watt was never destroyed that bad, but they tied him up a lot. Running right at him and, of course, no LBs filling the gaps to be found. Unless this is somehow fixed..fast, we're in for a long year.

It blows too. I really looked forward to watching the D this season. It's still a young season. Things might get turned around. But, the Dline and LB corps depth chart isn't very impressive

Just for the record, you're talking about Ryan Pickett who was brought in for a workout yesterday. While there's clearly a legitimate reason to believe the Texans are on the lookout to upgrade the D-Line, it should be noted that they haven't signed Pickett - or anybody else - yet, and yesterday was workout Tuesday, so while it's certainly possible he's picked up, nothing is necessarily imminent.

Good look for the Texans coaching staff..shows that they are as concerned about how we've been playing the run and are trying to shore it up...

Kubiak's texans would've kept trotting the same guys out there until about week 14 when we were clearly out of it and then made a change. Even then he would've made the move to some guy none of us never heard of that had no pedigree.

Jesus what is going on here? First he was injured, then he just had to catch up, then he wasn't working hard enough, now he is "injured" again? WTF

Texans worked out a guy they think can contribute right now, so they decided to redshirt Nix, III. We need some beef vs. the run.

Good call, Playoffs. I've been sitting here scratching my head at this situation, but your explanation seem plausible, if not obvious. MSR

I'm telling you... I'm supposed to be "Mr. Positive" now. I'm supposed to be passing out rainbows & lollipops...

But now.. now I've got to wonder. Was there something that everyone else knew about Louis Nix that Rick Smith was oblivious to? Did we get a good deal by trading back into the third to get this "first round talent" or was he going to slide to the sixth?

I'm not talking about hindsight. I was just as excited about getting him in the third as anyone else, it looked like a steal, I applauded Rick Smith for making the pick.

But was there something he should have known that everyone else knew?

My guess is that Nix hasn't moved as fast as they would like and they still think he's a long term project, move him to IR, and then pick up a stopgap till next year.

Sucks but it is what it is, I had hoped Nix would come ready to play.

Pickett "Yeah, I've got a lot left in the tank. I've only played on first and second down." During his 13-year career with Rams and Packers.

Ryan Pickett's wife Jennifer is from Missouri City. "She and the kids are real happy I signed with the Texans. It's her hometown."

Ryan Pickett, the newest Texans, said the coaches told him he was signed to help against the run. They allow 141.7 yards a game.

Seth Payne said that when he had a workout for some team Kollar was with he dreaded just thinking about it because he said most teams just want to test out your health and stuff...see if you can still move around well...

He said Kollar likes to run you until you can't go anymore. Likes to run you until you're completely gassed to see how much he can get out of you.

So if he's still working guys out like that, and if he was in charge of this workout then maybe he's in decent shape. Don't know how it all went down though.

Pickett's run defense ratings from PFF over the past years...

2013 16 games/542 snaps -2.1
2012 16 games/658 snaps 4.7
2011 16 games/507 snaps 1.8

Jerrell Powe

2014 3 games/85 snaps -2.6

He definitely showed some decline last year but I can see him being a decent reserve option for us behind Powe. Can't be worse than the guys we've been spelling Powe with.

Well looks like a .5 improvement.

Is that a good thing?

The ratings are cumulative, so you're kind of comparing a projected -13.9 to a -2.1, and that is noticeable.

I think it'll help Powe by reducing his snaps, help the scheme with a fatty fat blocker occupier, and it helps bringing in a guy who used to earn his pay stopping what the Giants did to us last week. Assume he's in shape.
