Houston Texans @ Oakland Raiders. 9/14. 3:25. CBS. **Official Gameday Thread**

oh, so sometimes going turtle is the smart move

This time it was IMO because the Raiders get the ball back after the half. So they had the potential to score twice and get right back in the game.

I think BOB is doing a great job so far. I know people want to see us air it out, but I don't think we have the QB for that type of game. If we can win a game on running and defense we need to take that and enjoy it.

I'm a huge O'Brien fan, but I'm not too happy with us going straight into 'play not to lose mode' during the 2nd quarter. We may not be the most talented team in the world, but we should still be able to bury this Raiders team. They are not very talented and they are very poorly coached.

I don't really know what you expected. We are a running football team first and foremost. That's why we usually run on first and on second down. Call it conservative or whatever, but it was pretty clear from the beginning of the season, that without a real good QB we were gonna play to our strength. And so far this season that worked out pretty well.

If you are talking about the end of half 3 runs - well we were at our 3 yard line. If you pass the ball here and get sacked, it is a safety. If you throw the ball and it gets picked off thats basically automatic points for the other team. If you throw the ball and don't complete, you preserve the other team a TO. There are a lot of reasons to just run here. And again it worked out for us...

Lol, same here. I might need to drink some more Koolaid. 17-0 and I'm still chewing fingernails.

As well you should...
The Raiders are moving the ball at will. We've lucked out with a couple of turnovers. This game isn't as one-sided as the scoreboard says.
If they stop shooting themselves in the foot, we could be in for a fight

The Texans have a 3 score lead by playing ball control offense and stifling defense. They're winning the turnover battle and using the same formula that won the last Super Bowl.

But that's not good enough for some of our fans.

I really don't get this line of thought. We were at our own goal line, up 17-0 with less than 2 minutes to go, with Fitz (not exactly the most stable QB out there) under center and you want us to try and go for it and risk a TO so close to the goaline? What the heck is wrong with some of you?!?

I have absolutely no problem with us doing what we did on that final possession. I'm talking about the few possessions before that. We had them on the ropes and we backed off instead of going for the kill.

Why does it seem like every time we get a turnover we "lucked out", but when we turn the ball over we're careless, undisciplined, etc.?

We didn't back off. We were moving down the field and the drives were killed by a tight end holding.

We don't have Peyton and we have only been in this system for 2 weeks. I don't see us driving 95 yards in <2 min when already ahead 17-0

What play call are you looking for there? Made them use all their timeouts so they'll only have about 30 seconds to get in FG range. Plus, you know Lechler is about to boom this thing.

Worst case would be forcing it and turning it over for no reason.

I would have tried to throw quickly to Graham, maybe a little inside slant to Andre. Something quick and short. At least on one of the plays.

Wasn't looking for a 95 yard drive. Glad we have Lechler to boom it and glad the Raiders are stupid, lol.

Not saying it couldn't have unfolded the way you are obviously imagining, but I would much rather have the game unfold the way it has than trying to force the issue.

Sure. That's fine too. Just giving my opinion. I was scared of the Raiders getting the ball back and getting some points before the half. Of course, one mistake and the Raiders would have gotten the ball back and way closer than originally planned.

Man, our pass rush sucks today, rook QB looking too comfortable in that warm and cozy pocket.
Yeah, that is bothering me too

The Raiders are moving the ball readily on our defense. J.J.Watt hasn't sniffed a sack or a QB hit or even a tackle and the rest of the front seven is getting pushed around
...and you're whinning about my semantics?

MSR. This! I'm not complaining about the last possession either (except for the use of Foster)...but earlier? Yeah! Way too conservative.

And once again, remember, O'Brian claimed Fittzy as his guy, 100%, all the way. So, by hitching your wagon to a guy like you're gonna fall on the sword...and so will the fans.

Pretty sure I simply asked a question.

And you can semantically make it about semantics if you'd like, my take was more about philosophical viewpoint.

Are we watching the same game?

I would hope that O'Brien would make sure he was aware of Fitzpatrick's strengths and weaknesses before hitching his wagon to him.

Just because he claims Fitz is his guy doesn't mean he thinks Fitz is flawless.

A good coach would play to his strengths and try to hide his weaknesses, which is what we appear to be doing through the first two games. Successfully I might add..

Yes, as long as they are getting yards on the ground on 1st and 2nd down. The last few drives have had too many 3rd and long situations.

I was ok with being conservative before the half, but the first three plays after a major turnover deep into their end was vintage Kubiak suckitude.

First thing I thought was "quick strike"....Fitz and all........

If you play good defense you can punt a few times and still win.

Asking your QB to do things he can't do will lead to turnovers, and you can't win like that.

I think we got lucky in that in the two times the ball hit the carpet today, we came up with both of them. Things didn't have to bounce our way. The INT was a damn good play.

That's the thing though. I trust Foster getting us out of safety range and Lechler to put the ball in a great spot much more than trying to draw up something creative for Fitz.
