Texans roster moves

Mark Berman @MarkBermanFox26
Correction: Texans have placed OT David Quessenberry on Reserve/non-football illness.

John McClain ✔ @McClain_on_NFL
I screwed up: David Quessenberry was placed on reserve/non football illness, not injured reserve. I apologize for the mistake.

Seth Payne @PayneNFL
Turns out Quessenberry is on Non-Football Injury Reserve. Doesn't count towards retirement benefits.

I'm playing, but Brisco County Jr was entertaining (though not great). I took the name because I like Bruce Campbell.
so then what's with the Cowboy Curtis (Laurence Fishburne) avatar?

shouldn't it be one of these two dudes

I've always wondered about that little mismatch between the nick and the avatar

I always thought the intentional mix up was funny, plus Cowboy Curtis is awesome.

New Depth Chart:

Dave Zangaro ✔ @DZangaro
On this week's unofficial depth chart, Alfred Blue is listed ahead of Jonathan Grimes as the #Texans backup RB.

Dave Zangaro ✔ @DZangaro
Ben Jones is listed at starting LG. Brandon Brooks is starting RG. Su'a-Filo is backup at both. #Texans

DQ may not count against cap and in this case it is beneficial. We can offer him support without it counting against the cap and become THE charity which begins at home for the Texans. This takes it out of the Individual vs Team realm.

If this is not the case, then I hope they do the right thing anyway.

Jayson Braddock @JaysonBraddock · 19s

My guess at how Texans value their WRs: AJ / Hop / Posey / Thomas / Martin (close w/ Mike) / Labhart / EZ / Bester / McClung.

Jayson Braddock @JaysonBraddock · 2m

So much love for Travis Labhart this week. I will say this, if they keep 6 WRs, I believe he's in. If they only keep 5, they'll try to stash

It's not. They will.

The list so far....
from the official site...
Released
WRs Joe Adams and Alec Lemon,
RB William Powell,
OG Sam Longo,
NTs David Hunter and Austin Brown,
LBs
Terrance Lloyd and Lawrence Sidbury
CB Junior Mertile.

Placed
OT
David Quessenberry on the reserve/non-football illness list and S Lonnie Ballentine on the reserve/injured list.

I think all except Sidbury (6 yrs) have P/S eligibility

When did Mr Irrelevant get injured?

Personally, I'd keep Labhart over Martin. And no, I'm not an A&M alum

AJ, D-Hop, Posey, Thomas, Labhart and a toss up between Martin and EZ. I think EZ has a better chance to take the top off a D than Martin

I agree with you although I think Martin has surprisingly looked OK this preseason. I wouldn't be surprised if Labhart has some mysterious injury that will require him to be moved to the IR pretty soon.

At this point I'd go ahead and roll with 2 QBs and keep 6 wrs if need be

Mike Thomas hasn't done anything. I'm not sure I'd keep him over anyone.

Dre, Hop, Posey, Martin, Labhart.

EZ and Thomas compete for the last spot if we go with 6. If Not, Oh well.

All Thomas has done is supposedly look good early in camp.

And I keep hearing that McClung looks really good. I think he's the guy we might try to stash if true.

I think Labhart makes this team. No stash needed. He's already good enough to contribute.

True, I also fail to see anything in the PS games to reflect Thomas's reportedly very strong camp (at least early camp, stopped hearing about him all together it seems lately)

But I feel the coaching staff may value his experience, since really that would be the major weakness of all the other bubble guys.

Also, I think Thomas and Martin are the only 2 legitimate KR/PR options... (even though personally I hate Martin in the return game)

OB points at WR position as a tough one. Said those decisions will be tough. #Texans

Patrick Creighton @PCreighton1
BOB: said building depth on team is very important. Said roster decisions will be difficult between 53/ PS/ cuts

Tania Ganguli @taniaganguli
Chris Boswell will do most of the kicking and punting Thursday. Bullock will do some kicking, O'Brien said. #Texans

Since the Texans practiced against Atlanta and Denver, I'm curious as to how many of their cuts end up Texans and vice versa. The coaching staff's got some real good looks at players.

Last 3. We're now at 75

Didn't someone mention McClung as a possible 53?

Texans get to 75 with 3 more cuts

The Texans made their last three roster moves today by waiving outside linebacker Paul Hazel, offensive lineman Conor Boffeli and receiver Anthony McClung.

The roster stands at 75 going into Thursday’s last preseason game against San Francisco at NRG Stadium.

Teams have to reduce their rosters to 53 by 5 p.m. on Saturday. The teams have the first claim on every player placed on waivers because they finished with an NFL-worst record of 2-14 last season.

I bet being "OTHER" is an uncomfortable spot to be in right now.

Thought Sidbury looked very good in games. I am concerned if Martin makes team he will revert to regular season behavior. We would have to let go of more than 22 if someone comes along we like...

I liked Sidbury, too. Martin has shown improvement, to me.

Joe Adams was the one guy I was thinking they'd keep to take the top off the opposing D...
...wonder why they didn't keep him...?

My gut tells me Tim Jamison is going to be cut. Ricardo Matthews has had a good showing and has the ability to play DE and NT.

The coaching staff probably loves that kind of versatility

If we're going to pick up 11~12 players off the wire, there are a lot more moves to be made.

I just don't see that happening. There would have to be some considerable talent getting cut to let go of guys that have a full preseason worth of knowledge and practice to bring in a bumch of back ups that have to learn the entire system. I don't see teams cutting that many considerable talents.
