2014 Texans Talk Mock Draft SELECTION

Brett Smith is the Lions pick if it hasn't already been made.

The Lions need a backup QB and a developmental QB.

Smith was my #5 rated QB. A great value at this point. Think Cousins but more talented. I've got Smith and Manziel rated 1.A- 1.b on my board ahead of MB favorite TB.

If you want a Russell Wilson type QB then Smith is the pick.

Sorry for holding you guys up, had to work today, we're in vacation mode.

34(134) Baltimore Ravens (htownfan32) ON THE CLOCK: 8:00pm - 10:00am

35(135) Houston Texans (TexansFTW)
36(136) Detroit Lions (steelbtexan)
37(137) New York Jets (steelbtexan)
38(138) Baltimore Ravens (htownfan32)
39(139) Atlanta Falcons (JCTexan)
40(140) New England Patroits (WolverineFan)

The Baltimore Ravens select...

Ahmad Dixon - SS - Baylor - Big XII

With James Ihedgibo gone, the Ravens will look for a second safety to pair with Matt Elam. He has a late 3rd to mid 4th grade for me, so I'm happy to scoop him up here.

Great pick

He will fit in with a Ravens style defense perfectly.

An Ozzie type value pick.

So far Houston has had a very defense heavy draft. Teddy could probably use a RT, TE or RB. CB, ILB and FS are needs too.

Cant say, but this pick is obvious if you have been listening to what BOB said he's looking for at the position I'm thinking about. Pick represents great value.

If you've read my PM for the Jets this is the direction I think the Texans should go.

If I were Texans GM and cherry picking this draft, this is what our board would look like.

1. Greg Robinson - OT – Auburn
2. Dee Ford - DE – Auburn
3. Chris Borland - ILB – Wisconsin
4. Aaron Murray - QB - Georgia
5. Ryan Carrethers -NT - Arkansas State

Love Robinson pick, I really do my #1 BPA & its not really close.
Dee Ford is really a classic boom or bust prospect. I'm scared off by his back issue (lumbar spine).
Borland I could see but not in love here.
Murray is a much, much more talented Fitzpatrick.
Carrethers I'm very open to.

I could live with this if Texans can catch a freaking break on the injury side? Looking at last year, what started as promising melted down like a microcosm of the entire season, just sick. Three rules to observe.

draft bpa not strictly need only
do not project positional changes
stay clear of medical concerns

I don't really care what anyone says or how anyone would do it. I'm the Texans GM now and I'm building a winner. So listen all you Gary Kubiaks out there, you sit down, relax, and enjoy the ride. And while you are sitting put your mother F'ing hands together for the Texans newest competition to Brennan Williams on the O Line.

Michael Schofield - OT - Michigan - Big 10

I give 0 shoots if you want to hand pick certain dumb scouts out there that say he doesn't have the speed to be a RT because he got beat a couple of times at the senior bowl, this dude is stacked and this dude is solid. He has good bend and strong, long arms.

He's much faster than certain people give him credit for that want to say he has slow feet or stupid stuff like that. The truth is he got beat a couple times at the senior bowl, it happens to everyone, and it especially happens to guys that come from poorly coached programs and guess what, Michigan is one of the poorest.

He was a top performer at the combine in the 40 and 3 cone drill (for O Lineman) so there goes that slow feet theory. His footwork will improve under the right coaching and literally anything is an upgrade over Derek "No F's Given" Newton.

With the 136th pick in the NFL Mock Draft the Detroit Lions select Tre Boston FS North Carolina.-SEC

Great value at a position of need for the Lions.

With the 137th pick in the TT Mock Draft the NY Jets Select Dri Archer RB Kent St. -- MAC

With Decker/Evans/Leonard the Jets have given Vick the weapons that he needs to be successful. The Jets all of the sudden have a very dangerous offense.

Houston Texans select...

Michael Schofield - OT - Michigan - Big 10

I like Schofield because of his versatility. He played really good as an OG at Michigan before moving outside to RT. He was solid there as well. The big issue with his game isn't his feet (which has been overstated) but how soft he is at the point of attack. He's a finesse RT, which is getting somewhat rare these days. He's a very good pass blocker though.

38(138) Baltimore Ravens (htownfan32) ON THE CLOCK - emailed him
39(139) Atlanta Falcons (JCTexan)

ROUND 5

1 ( 141 ) Houston Texans ( TexansFTW )
2 ( 142 ) Washington Redskins ( kiwitexansfan )
3 ( 143 ) Tampa Bay Buccaneers ( TexansSeminole )
4 ( 144 ) Jacksonville Jaguars ( The Pencil Neck )
5 ( 145 ) Cleveland Browns ( Dutchrudder )
6 ( 146 ) Seattle Seahawks ( Bah007 )

Don't do it 3 guys ahead of me (take my guy) . If you do, it will only hurt the Texans. They are watching everything I do.

Don't worry, nobody else wants to touch Michael Sam. I think it's a good strategy though, while next season may suck, at least the lockerroom will be FAB-U-LOUS!!!

:whip:

The Baltimore Ravens select...

Mike Davis - WR - Texas - Big XII

Shores up the WR corps. There's really not much there besides Marlon Brown and Torrey Smith. Also adds a returner. Surprised he's not gone yet.

39(139) Atlanta Falcons (JCTexan) ON THE CLOCK: 11:15am - 3:15pm
40(140) New England Patroits (WolverineFan)

4 ( 144 ) Jacksonville Jaguars ( The Pencil Neck )
5 ( 145 ) Cleveland Browns ( Dutchrudder )
6 ( 146 ) Seattle Seahawks ( Bah007 )

I wouldn't mind seeing Schofield in a Texans uni. Solid OT who provides versatility and depth across the OL.

Steve Smith?

How much more does Steve Smith have left to give? Not saying Mike Davis is good enough to supplant him, but Davis adds a returning factor to the team (other than Jacoby) and can ease his way into the starting lineup as Smith gets older.

(Was thinking towards the future, also kind of forgot about Smith :kitten: )

With the 139th pick the Atlanta Falcons select..

Anthony Steen - OG - Alabama - SEC

Possesses a thick, compact frame ideal for winning leverage battles in the trenches. Surprisingly quick, both when asked to slide laterally in pass protection, as well as when coming off the line downhill in second-level pursuit.
Fundamentally and technically solid in pass protection exhibiting patience to sit, punch and slide with good pad. Maximizes arm extension without over-extending despite lacking ideal length. Keeps his head on a swivel and displays good awareness.

Davis is a solid pick at this point for Baltimore. Average size with above average speed. Goode route runner and great blocker. Does drop passes though. And I don't think he ever returned kicks or punts in college.

He did a little his Freshman season. I think he has the ability to.

Your evaluation is spot on. Biggest issue: needs to work on hands.

With the final pick of the 4th round the New England Patriots select...

Jordan Tripp - OLB - Montana - Big Sky (FCS)

50a8590c8a4f6.preview-620.jpg

The Pats may have one of the best starting LB groups in the league with Jerod Mayo, Dont'a Hightower, and Jamie Collins. However, they have poor depth and need another LB who excels in coverage and can contribute on special teams. That brings me to Tripp.

Tripp is a physical specimen at 6-3, 234 and ran a 4.67 forty at the Combine along with a 3.96 short shuttle and a sub-7.00 3-cone drill. He also vertical leaped 37.5 inches and broad jumped 10 feet. He is a 2-time FCS All-American and a 2-time finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award (Defensive Player of the Year). I think he has starting potential if developed for a year or two.

4 ( 144 ) Jacksonville Jaguars ( The Pencil Neck ) PM'ed

I dont understand what happened to him though. He never became the player he was expected to be. Seems like wasted talent. Maybe the Ravens can tap his potential.

Damn, I wanted Steen at my next pick... Tripps a good choice too, I like him. Seems like one of those late round depth guys that could turn into a solid starter if given a year or two to develop behind someone else.

I'm not a Texas fan, but I have plenty of friends who are so I usually watch 3-4 games a year. I don't get Mike Davis.

When I say that, I don't mean that I don't get why people like him as a prospect. I understand that. What I mean is, I don't understand him as a player. The guy will get behind a DB by 10 yards on a deep ball and make a great sideline catch and then on the next play he'll drop a 5 yard hitch. It's baffling. He's very inconsistent and only seems to excel downfield.

I always thought he would be a better pro player than college player. His style is better suited for the NFL where less contact is allowed.

And he did have quite a career at Texas, albeit under the radar. I think he owns all the freshman receiving records, and he is top five in school history in receptions and yards.

Texas had pretty awful QB play during his entire career, too.

He does get alligator arms in traffic and also has some immaturity issues he will need to deal with at some point.

I wouldnt mind Tyler Gaffney here, or Tajh Boyd.

If you are referring to the Texans, then good sir, you will get nothing.

There’s nothing wrong with double dipping that flavorless cheap, especially if you aren’t 100% positive that first dip was enough to get that correct taste going. With that said the Houston Texans select:

Caraun Reid - DT - Princeton - Ivy League

Word on the street is that we are going to be running a hybrid 3-4/4-3. If any of that is true we need more than 3/4 capable DLinemen, which is why I think that our Boy Caraun here is versatile and can fit well in both sets as both depth and a starter.

I also believe that since we just brought in one Ivy Leaguer that we needed to bring in a 2nd so the that Ryan wouldn’t get lonely talking about differential equations and advanced probabilities by himself. Now he has someone that he can bounce ideas off of.

I really, really like Tripp as a developmental prospect. He's a great athlete, has great instincts, and is very good in coverage. Those are quality ingredients for a LB in the modern NFL. I think he has serious potential, but he's going to need to get stronger and work on his tackling. He will also need to adjust to the speed of the game. Give him 2 years as a reserve and special teamer though and I think you might have something.

I LOVE Caraun Reid.

Didn't think you would go there because of the previous picks but you are right the DL is a gaping hole of nothingness outside JJ.

Texans could look at Zumwalt to slot next to Cush.

My intention pre-draft was to get Van Noy in the 2nd to force Brooks Reed to move inside. He got drafted a little bit earlier than I would have liked and I had to throw that strategy out the window. Regardless, I still want Brooks Reed to be my guy playing inside w/ Cush.

I love Caraun Reid. I have him graded as an early 3rd rounder. No idea how he's still available.
