NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis February 19-24, 2014

Lyerla with a 4.47...

I would roll the dice on him in like the 4th or 5th round if he fell that far...

Ebron with a 4.50...Nice...

"I fear being average" -- WR Jarvis Landry(love this kid, great hands/leader)

Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet
#Texas WR Mike Davis won’t be taking part in Combine on-field drills because he wasn’t cleared. Has a minor right foot injury, I’m told.

One team asked Tennessee OL Tiny Richardson, “How would you have handled Richie Incognito if you had been Jonathan Martin?” Interesting.
Dane Brugler ‏@dpbrugler
LB Jeremiah Attaochu(gesundheit): "I went to SR Bowl to compete and unfortunately injured my hamstring and also my hand. I will be working out at may Pro Day"

Well then CK's drill portion knocked him out of the first. He did all the drills and they were not worthy of a 1st RD.

Uh huh

But the reason he looked so slow might be more of a concern to teams.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, “several teams” have failed Kouandjio on his physical because of an arthritic knee, which stemmed from a failed surgery.

The massive blocker was considered a first-round talent when he left school, but those medical concerns could cause him to slide, and make teams wonder where to draw the line between obvious talent and potential medical risk.

Kouandijo didn't look nearly as good this year as he did last year with Warmack next to him. Don't know if that's injury related or not but I noticed it fairly easily when watching him.

I don't want Taylor Lewan. He's a disgusting human-being.

You wanna know more, google "Taylor Lewan threatens rape victim."

He has more than just on the field rage problems.

Looked pretty good today Nate. Already has the OL tats etc.. Had a good cut as well. Not Texans worthy to me either...

They aren't really identifying the details of the injury/surgery, but it was a leg whip occurring in 2011 that led to a very extensive ACL and MCL injury that led to significant cartilaginous destruction......hence the delayed arthritic condition that has finally developed into an overt late deterioration of performance.

I had to start laughing when they had the OL doing the vertical jump. Really? I get that you are measuring athleticism, but I've never seen a vertical jump be useful for an OL on a football field. Running the 40 is also somewhat ridiculous as rarely does an OL ever sprint 40 yards downfield. Again, I realize it's all about testing athleticism, but athleticism that doesn't apply to what you do on a football field is pointless. I do, however, think the 10-yard split is important. An OL rarely goes 40 yards on a play, but they routinely go 10 yards and they need to be able to burst out of stance.

The top 10-yard splits from today.....

#1) 1.59 - Matt Patchan (6-6, 302) - OT, Boston College
#2) 1.64 - Taylor Lewan (6-7, 309) - OT, Michigan
#3) 1.68 - Greg Robinson (6-5, 332) - OT, Auburn
#4) 1.68 - Joel Bitonio (6-4, 302) - OT/OG, Nevada
#5) 1.70 - Jake Matthews (6-5, 308) - OT, Texas A&M
#6) 1.71 - Michael Schofield (6-6, 301) - OT/OG, Michigan
#7) 1.71 - Seantrel Henderson (6-7, 331) - OT, Miami (FL.)
#8) 1.71 - Zach Fulton (6-5, 316) - OG, Tennessee
#9) 1.72 - Trai Turner (6-3, 310) - OG, LSU
#10) 1.72 - Wesley Johnson (6-5, 297) - OT/OG, Vanderbilt
#11) 1.72 - James Stone (6-4, 306) - C, Tennessee
#12) 1.72 - Russell Bodine (6-3, 310) - OG/C, North Carolina
#13) 1.72 - Travis Swanson (6-5, 312) - OG/C, Arkansas
#14) 1.72 - Conor Boffeli (6-4, 298) - OG, Iowa

*For those that were tied, I ordered them by who ran the faster 40-yard dash (thus finally making it useful for something).

- One note: Look at the top 5. What looks out of place? I'll help.....Greg Robinson. A guy that massive shouldn't be able to move like that. Same with Henderson, but then the question with Henderson has never been athletic ability.

Stephon Tuitt checked in at 304 lbs, which was his playing weight in 2012. Prior to the 2013 season, I learned today, he had hernia surgery, gained weight and played this past season at 320 lbs. At 300 lbs he would certainly be a nice fit for our new defense, but he'll go in the bottom half of the first. I don't know how we could get him unless we trade down for extra picks.

OB.............Tired? Confused? Bored? Hormonally challenged? Constipated?

Not interested in #1 at all or #7 until late.

You should be interested in Patchan . He would be a 1st rd pick if not for injury. He was healthy this yr and helped pave the way for Williams big yr running the ball. Dude is very talented. Due to injury 5-1 would be where I would rate him. If healthy, he's a starting OL as a rookie on the Texans OL.

Much better than Newton or Smith last yr.

That might explain some poor film this year.

Because there were never charges pressed, it's difficult to know what to believe. I think every team would have to make their own assessment.

Warning!!! Don't play a Taylor Lewan press conference drinking game where the buzz phrase is "play through the whistle". You will die of alcohol poisoning.
Not a bad thing to keep at the forefront of you mind.

Jake Mathews is overrated. I've seen him play 5 years...including high school. Name has gotten him where he is. He brother still at A&M is REALLY overrated.

I would not take Jake in the first round.

But he would make a great pick at 2-1 though.

Just for comparison's sake:

Cam Newton 4.51
RGIII 4.41
Kaepernick 4.53
Wilson 4.55
Luck 4.67

Keenum 4.82
Yates 5.1
Schaub 4.90

They keep saying Kaep ran a 4.63 on NFL Network. Said the same thing last night when they compared his 40 time to Richard Sherman. Its crazy that the best CB in the league ran a 4.60. Just goes to show you that these times can be overrated.

Watching Kaep I would say he is fastest down the field of all of them. Maybe he sucks at the start with his long skinny legs.

I would agree with that. I don't know what his 10 and 20 split was, but once those long legs get moving he eats up ground. Manziel isn't really all that stright line fast to me so his time in the high 4.5's or 4.6 Sounds about right to me. His change of direction and elusiveness is what makes him special. I actually think those times he ran are pretty good for him.

Kap's official time is listed at 4.53. Sherman's is 4.56.

And yea the times can be overrated, but it also depends on how you deploy the player once he gets to the NFL.

Gotcha...... yeah I'm not sure what times NFLN keeps using then, but those definitely aren't the numbers they're going by.

wow i never new Schaub could outrun Yates, now was this at combine or at a pro day where they just threw him off the side of a mountain?

Watching Carr, Bridgewater, and Manziel on the sideline watching the WR drills, I get the feeling Johnny is regretting his decision to not throw.

Watching the WR drills......Mike Evans looks good. Kelvin Benjamin? Catch the ball dude.

Evans looking more like Vincent Jackson today and less like Jonathan Baldwin. Good news for him.

I'm in love with Odell Beckham. Been talking about this guy for months so it's nice to see him show out.

I like Patchan a lot in the 5th, and I think he could play LG or RT.

Patchan has basically been a walking injury report since his early days at Florida. Patchan played in 11 games as a defensive tackle on Florida's 2008 national championship team before an undescribed "leg injury" cut his season short by 3 games. He had previously hurt his left knee in the spring of 2008 in a scooter accident. As offensive tackle in '09, he played in only four games before he suffered what was reported as a torn right ACL in practice (more about the true nature of this injury which was not widely publicized). He missed the 2010 season with a fractured wrist, then he made it all the way through the regular 2011 season at right tackle-starting the final seven-before a back injury prevented him from playing in the bowl game against Ohio State. But he missed 2012 with a torn pectoral muscle, then decided to transfer to BC. During his Florida career, he also was shot in the hand (in a drive-by shooting at a park in his hometown of Tampa) and was involved in two scooter accidents in Gainesville, including getting hit by a car which is when he injured his left knee. He finally made it through the 2013 season while dealing with a nagging hip injury.

Despite his commendable 40 at the Combine, there is no doubt that Patchan has been slowed down since his "ACL injury." There is good reason to be guarded about picking him up, even in later rounds...........not only because of his constant history of injuries, but specifically how his realistic long-term prognosis relates to the true catastrophic nature "ACL injury" he sustained.........which has been indefensibly minimized to date.

From an Aug 2010 piece I had to dig deeply for:
The Armwood High alum tore his right knee ligaments apart in a noncontact drill in September. It required 12 incisions during major surgery and nearly a year of rehabilitation. It was the third injury he had sustained in his Gators career.

But this one was different. The junior offensive lineman knew it the moment he felt the snap during a blocking drill.

"This injury was so much more severe than any injury I've ever had," Patchan said. "This was the worst. People ask me all the time about all the different things. My knee was horrific. I had 13 structures damaged, completely torn. There was a long list of things. I tore my ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) and LCL (lateral collateral), my PCL (posterior cruciate), my IT (iliotibial) band, my cartilage, my meniscus. My hamstring tore off the bone. The state of the injury was my knee hyperextended 40 degrees. It was pretty bad. Right away, it was like 'Aw man. Another thing.' "

I was aware of his injury history which is why I said I'd be okay with him in the 5th round. I was not aware that his ACL injury was so severe. That's disappointing.

ITBS is very common but I don't think I've ever encountered an IT tear.
