Mock Draft Simulator

All defense mock:

1
DE JADEVEON CLOWNEY
SOUTH CAROLINA, he'd move to OLB or we'd switch to a 4-3

33
CB JUSTIN GILBERT
OKLAHOMA STATE, great value and fills a definite need.

65
DT RA’SHEDE HAGEMAN
MINNESOTA, I can't believe he fell to the 3rd round, DE opposite JJ.

97
DT DAQUAN JONES
PENN STATE, Finally a big man at NT.

129
ILB LAMIN BARROW
LSU, depth behind Cushing and Reed, also special teams.

161
S KENNY LADLER
VANDERBILT, hopefully moves Keo off the roster.

193
P KIRBY VAN DER KAMP
IOWA STATE, highest ranked Punter and we know the importance of field position.

We know there is probably going to be a great QB somewhere in this draft, we just need to find him.

I think you just posted Texian's dream draft!

Are you happy with OLB or was there not value there for you?

Actually I just went best defensive player available. In the second round I chose Tuitt over Ford. I figured Clowney could play outside rush lb and I had Tuitt rated higher anyway so I went with him.

Who do you project to be QB opening day?

Wouldn't complain about Clowney and Hagemann if it ends up like that.

How can you go wrong with a TE named Joe Don .

Eh, I'm tired of seeing all these Houston Texans mock drafts, lets get some variety in here! As GM of the Browns in the TT Mock Draft, I figured I should try my luck on the machine and see what I get. Well, unfortunately, DE and DT are two positions that the Browns are pretty solid, but those and RB tend to be very plentiful in this mock machine. So while I didn't get exactly what I wanted, I think the Browns would be happy with this draft!

4 WR SAMMY WATKINS CLEMSON

I know Josh Gordon is a badass and all, but having Watkins on the other side of him would be amazing. While this draft isn't that realistic because JFF is available at 26, you could put JFF here and put Kelvin Benjamin or Marquis Lee at 26. Anyways, nice way to start.

26 QB JOHNNY MANZIEL TEXAS A&M

JFF to Cleveland at 26? Yes please. So long Trent Richardson, and thanks for all the fish.

35 DE STEPHON TUITT NOTRE DAME

This is a luxury pick of BPA because the draft just fell this way. I think Tuitt can be a 4-3 or 3-4 DE with his skills, and will fit right in the Browns hybrid 3-4 defense. He will find a way to get to the QB, no matter where you put him, which is the kind of player HC Pettine likes. Playing next to Rubin, he will become a "***** kitty" in no time.

71 ILB SHAYNE SKOV STANFORD

The Browns need help at ILB. Skov can stop the run, or rush the passer situationally, so he will be a nice piece to have in this defense. Dqwell Jackson can remain the SILB and Skov can start as the WILB next year.

83 G CYRIL RICHARDSON BAYLOR

Shaun Luvauo is a free agent, and pretty much the Rashad Butler of the team. He needs to be upgraded, and Richardson can be the answer to that problem. He can also help keep JFF clean, so JFF can be JFF.

102 CB STANLEY JEAN- BAPTISTE NEBRASKA

Big body cornerback who can start as a nickelback and rotate in as needed. Hopefully he can be the #2 across from Joe Haden in the future, but that will take some time to develop him.

123 RB ANDRE WILLIAMS BOSTON COLLEGE

It's no secret that the Browns need help at RB. Williams is a good RB who had an impressive year at BC and set some school records. He's 6'0 225 pounds, and he's strong, stout dude. The Browns need a RB like this, and would be better off drafting a guy than blowing money on a guy like Ben Tate. Williams can be the between the tackles guy and potentially a 3-down back, but he needs to work on pass protections.

133 WR JOSH HUFF OREGON

BPA here, the Browns should drop Greg Little this offseason, which leaves them with Josh Gordon, Travis Benjamin, and ... meh. Huff adds some depth and has some experience playing in the JFF Benny Hill Offensive system after playing at Oregon with Mariota. Mariota was much more disciplined as a pocket passer, but he had some plays where he would run around for 10 seconds before throwing :) Huff has good hands, and always tries to make the catch, but often jumps unnecessarily, and ends up missing out on YAC sometimes. That's something he will need to work on, but he's a great value for a 5th.

164 S HAKEEM SMITH LOUISVILLE

I expect the Browns to retain TJ Ward, and find someone to start opposite of him. That person will likely come from free agency, but in the mean time we need depth behind those guys and Smith is a good prospect. He plays tough, hits hard and could be a good SS and special teams contributor.

195 RB JERICK MCKINNON GEORGIA SOUTHERN

More RB help. Building around JFF, the Browns are going to need some more bodies at RB. McKinnon is small, but pretty quick for his weight. He seems like he could fit the Kyle Shanahan offense.

Yeah, in my draft the Texans ended up with a terrible draft. Carr was the first pick, then 2 RBs in the 3rd and 5th, and another QB in the 6th.

I was doing a practice draft for the Miami Dolphins (who I am GM'ing for the TT Mock Draft) and this is what the Texans AI GM ended up drafting. Not bad, IMO.

Yeah, I learned a couple of things using this simulator:

1) Drafting for another team and looking back at who it selects for the Texans shows it's very flawed,

2) Drafting for the Browns you see how deep this draft is, which makes me want the impossible even more: trade out of 1/1 for more picks. I'm giggling at the choices Browns have down into the 5th round -- embarrassment of riches.

The one where I got Manziel in the second , Carr was still on the board with Manziel and then Garoppolo was available in the 3rd.

Seems that engine doesn't weight the QB position very highly.

Something out of left field at least for my way of thinking.

Bortles is intriguing, let's give him some toys and trust the IR guys to fill the holes on OL.

On defense get a NT and then add depth and strength in the secondary where we will be playing nickel and dime 70% of the time.

Dennard is a versatile piece, ultimately I would say why not try him as ILB, worth a flyer.

I did one a couple of days ago:

1. Sammy Watkins
2. Jace Amaro
3. Morgan Moses
4. Daquan Jones
5. A.J. McCarron
6. Andre Williams

Aj, Watkins, Hopkins, Amaro, bookend tackles, options at LG...

That's going to help any QB we put back there. Cassell, Keenum, Schaub, Tj, McCown... It would also help Arian with those bookends anchoring the line & those receivers/TEs keeping LBs back & DBs deep.

Defensively, we've got issues, but we get our big guy in the middle. & the best defense is a good offense.

I like that draft but the problem with it is you have no QB if Mccarron doesn't fall to the fifth round. If A.J. Mccarron is not there in the fifth who do you take? Aaron Murray, Tajh Boyd or Logan Thomas? Anyone there will be a project and won't be starting for a few years. What would your solution be until they're ready?

Cassell, Keenum, Schaub, Tj, McCown... McCarron isn't "slotted" to start, he's there to compete for the job. If McCarron's not there, yeah I'd be all over Murray, Boyd, or Thomas if they're still there.

I may be the only one, but I'm looking to win in 2014, if our rookie QB gives us the best chance to win, he's going to have to prove it by beating someone who has.

Do you really think Mosley falls that far ? I haven't kept up with the needs of most other teams , who could use an ILB ?

If he were to fall to ~20, I'd have to really consider a move up to get him if I were in Rick Smith's shoes.

So why exactly do the Eagles need another ILB? They spent a 2nd on Kendricks last year, a 4th on Matthews, and have Demeco Ryans still on the roster. Are they going to let Ryans go for cap reasons?

That simulator always gave Mosley to the Eagles, and I was trying to get him for the Browns at 26 a few times. Never seems to happen :(

they need someone who can rush the passer, not to mention bpa. very safe pick for a defensively starved team that struggles to stop anyone when they need to like the Saints in the playoffs.

I take Wyoming QB Brett Smith over Boyd , David Fales or Logan Thomas. I think Smith is very underrated in this draft.

Yeah , he's by far BPA that far down the draft .... I guess teams (and that engine) don't really value ILB as highly as they do DE/OLB and skill positions.

Do you think any QB we draft is going to make this team anything better than mediocre next year?

Yes , there are a couple guy's in this draft that would immediately improve this team , tho the question is how much how soon.

If you are asking me if one of those QB's primes them for a deep playoff run as a rookie , the answer is easily no.

The nature & complexity of the position makes those expectations far too high. You almost have to chalk up that rookie season as a learning experience and plan / build for the 2nd year and beyond.

I really have to question FanSpeaks ranking of players because several times I've been able to get Rashede Hageman in the 3rd round when in reality I expect him to go about mid 1st round.

Talking about way off reality, this one just broke the system. Also feel Texans Bill O'Brian will address QB via free agency with ....wait for it... Matt Cassel

1) Jadeveon Clowney, DE/OLB, BPA hand down or standing up premium pass rusher

2) Morgan Moses, OT, just a man among boys, day one starter

3) Jarvis Landry, WR, taking advantage of deep underclassman class, excellent return skills

4) Jimmy Garoppolo, QB, ridiculous value I know but he was there for the taking

5) Jordan Zumwalt, ILB/OLB, breakout defensive riser with a 3rd rd. grade

6) Tre Boston, Safety, Manning/Keo replacement

7) Ryan Carrethers, NT, run plugger to develop along side free agent pick-up.... wait for it .... Terrence Cody

I could learn to like this draft. Morgan Moses does it for me. If something should happen to Duane Brown, I won't feel so desolate in the future.

Hybrid 3-4

Suh-----Fairley------Ansah

Reilly-----Levy------Tulloch--------Kennard

Add in some Antonio Smith and Alan Branch in FA and you've got the making of a tough front 7. You could even put Mosely in the middle and let Ansah play the WLB pass rush role.

The Offense would be deadly.

Terrence Cody

one of the interesting choices that will inevitably arise some round in this upcoming draft to me is demonstrated in this mock. that is selecting a WR because he is BPA (very deep class because of underclassman). would you guys encourage Texans to go this route, bypassing a higher need in favor of a higher graded player? if say, a Jarvis Landry falls out of 2nd rd. & he is sitting there for Texans, would you do it?

1 QB TEDDY BRIDGEWATER - Starting QB, good to go.
33 DE KONY EALY - Bookend with Watt, would be happy with this.
65 DT WILL SUTTON - New big guy in the middle.
97 ILB YAWIN SMALLWOOD - Good talent int he 4th, especially to help our backer corp.
129 WR JOSH HUFF - Slot guy for O'Brien to scheme with.
161 S TRE BOSTON - Safety of the future, and possibly some CB play as well. Plus he went to a good school.
193 RB KAPRI BIBBS - Watched a few games of his this year and liked how he ran.

I would be satisfied with this draft. There just seemed to be better value and talent on defense in each of the rounds. I would have liked to get a OT, but that's the only thing I think I really missed.

Decided to mock a mock using only players I hadn't selected before.

Maybe they fall totally in love with an OT and think it will make anyone who is the QB better.

I would love that draft. Zumwalt is severely underrated.
