Mock Draft Simulator

I see almost every mock has an OT. Is this because David Quessenberry and Brennan Williams have already been written off before they've had a chance to see what they can do on Texans football field?

Do we know they are a solution? NO.

Are they coming off significant injuries? YES

Can you count on them to contribute? NO

Can you have too many good linemen? NO

That is my logic anyway.

Q's injury was very minor. They could have waited a few weeks and had him back but stashed him on IR.

Texian - I think the answer on Q is most people see him starting at LG.

Do you think if Gary had that to do over again he would've done things differently?

I kinda see Q as the starting RT and drafting a stud LG like Su'a -Filo in the 3rd rd to put next to D.Brown.

  1. Sammy Watkins WR Clemson
  2. Jace Amaro TE Texas Tech
  3. Morgan Moses OT Virginia
  4. Daquan Jones DT Penn State
  5. A.J. McCarron QB Alabama

I'm also bringing Josh Freeman in to compete with McCarron, Keenum, & Yates. I'll only carry three of them for the season.

I'll also sign Brian Orakpo & Mike Jenkins (Free Safety)

I would guess there was some internal second guessing down on Kirby on that one.

He looks NFL quality to me but saw him more at LG. Either way is fine.

If he was good enough to have started at some point last year why IR him over a minor issue?

Maybe he was more of a project than people around here think. That is why I say we can't count on him.

a numbers game, easier to stash him on IR where he could get stronger, which he needed to do.

LT = D Brown/Quessenberry
LG = B Jones/Kupper
C = Myers/White
RG = Brooks/White
RT = B Williams/Quessenberry/Newton

Nope. I believe it was Kubiak's blind loyalty to sub par players that he "believed" in. Williams and Q will be starting lineman next year. I know it.

LT = D Brown/Quessenberry
LG = B Jones/Kupper
C = Myers/White
RG = Brooks/White
RT = B Williams/Quessenberry/Newton

^ This. I've been saying this for a while. I truly believe this will happen. Although I can easily see Q sliding in at one of the starting Guard positions. I also have not completely ruled out Wade Smith resigning on a very team friendly deal.

Neither injury was even a bad injury either. They were put on IR to make space for Kubiak's pets to make the final 53.

Quessenberry had a broken foot. Depending on the severity of the fracture, that we will never know, he might have been able to come back sometime during the season but it was probably best to let him heal fully and get stronger for this coming season. I look for him to be our starting LG.

Williams had micro fracture surgery on his knee. That is a significant injury especially for someone his size and I think the Texans will be lucky to ever get any significant playing time out of Williams. A RT should be high on our list of needs. I'm thinking 3rd round, or 2nd if one of the 1st round quality guys falls to us.

I liked the line much better when Wade Smith was playing well (2010~2011) & Briseil was playing well & Winston was playing well.

in 2012, when we had Ben Jones starting at RG, I thought he looked good & was capable of playing as well as Briseil ever did. I liked Brooks as well, but his bigger body & playing style, looked more like a Wade Smith replacement than anything.

I think putting Brooks next to Brown would give us a monster of a left side. Ben Jones should play on Myer's right......

But that was with our old OL philosophy, who knows what we'll do in 2014.

I can see Q & Brooks starting ahead of Jones. I wouldn't have a problem with that. But I wouldn't bank on Williams coming back to starting caliber. It would be great if he did, but we won't "know" until training camp & it's too late to do something about it then.

Very interesting. I definitely didn't bother to do any research before I spoke and just remember it being very questionable and them both (I thought) in a situation where they could return that season without too much time lost. Or maybe it was the fact that they were both "phantom" injuries days before the cut to 53.

I obviously remember incorrect if Williams got microfracture knee surgery, that's definitely pretty significant. I tried doing a google search of his health and didn't find anything. I also tried for about 6 seconds before giving up.

Regardless, if these injuries are true and those surgeries real I was very wrong and apologize for speaking too soon.

Written off? No. As fans we do not get to see these guys working to get back on the field. Only the coaching staff knows how they are progressing and if they will be ready for a starting spot. Therefore some may feel that a top prospect will help solidify the right side which has been a concern for the past 2 seasons.

They have not been written off, but on the other side of the coin they cannot be counted on from my perspective as they have zero NFL game experience and are coming back from injuries.

I just dont feel comfortable with 2 unproven at RT, plus the guy we all crucified last season. I think a versitile player who can play guard and tackle would be a good asset for this team. If Brennan Williams beats him out then we can have him compete for LG.

Agree with you about solidifying the right side of the OL and not being able to count on injured players to produce. This was one of Gary's greatest faults.

Ryan Harris should fill the swing OT role and should've started over Newton last yr. IMHO

I think Kubiak's biggest fault, was trusting way too much in his system & his ability to "coach up" a top offense in this league. If you look at what he did with the talent he had, I can't help but appreciate that ability. But spending almost all our draft picks on the defense & building one of the best offenses in the league with also rans...

Imagine if we'd have grabbed Ferguson & Lutui in 2006. Or Ferguson in 2006 & Grubbs or Blaylock in 2007.

2006
Ferguson, & Greg Jennings

2007
Duane Bowe/Robert Meachum, & Ben Grubbs.

We could have spent every other pick on Defense & Tight-ends from then on...... Our defense would have still been suspect, but our offense would have been much more able to keep the other team off the field & score points.

I know it's all hindsight & cherry picking the draft... but I think if he'd have spent a little on the front end for his offense, he'd have been more successful quicker.

This. Quess needed to add upper body strength in the offseason, too. Williams might be done.

Kubiak as QB/Head Coach telegraphed his plays, gameplan & week after week through out there physically limited signal callers. Only time he was successful was with a freakishly, athletic QB who was able to audible & make plays on his own. Other than QB position Texans had plenty of talent to be competitive. :kitten:

As far as this mock draft simulator is concerned, you know something is flawed when anyone, including myself can reap this much talent in a single draft, its just not realistic & gives people false hope (if taken to heart). :tiphat:

Yep, and I think that's the point. We wouldn't keep coming back if we weren't getting "superdrafts". Still fun, though. It does say it updates on Tuesdays. I wonder if it adjusts based on user input or has a panel of draft "experts" it pulls from?

Don't know anything about Reid.

But the rest of that draft would be great.

In my Senior Bowl Mock draft. Very smart player who flashes, relentless motor, shows good mobility. Nose tackle could also kick out (DE). Impressed scouts with strong, stout build @ weigh-in 6-2 1/8, 301, 32 5-8" arm length, 10 1/4" hands & 79 1/8 wingspan. Suggests good durability, core strength & quickness. Similar I would think to last years 6th rd. pick Chris Jones but has created more buzz.

Princeton DT Caraun Reid had a solid overall week of practice, but his standout performance in the Senior Bowl will earn him a hard look from scouts looking for an interior defender with quickness and rush skills. The 6-foot-2, 301-pound defender racked up a pair of sacks on back-to-back plays that showcased his speed, burst and hand skills. Reid defeated Baylor's Cyril Richardson using a quick arm over at the line of scrimmage to notch a sack. He followed it with a butt-and-jerk maneuver on the subsequent play that showcased his sneaky strength and power on the inside. As more teams utilize quick interior defenders on nickel and sub packages, Reid could be viewed as an enticing option based on his solid play in the game.

I would hate it. Evans is at least the #2 WR in the draft and he wouldn't even be in my top 10 BPA for us.

You caught me before the edit.

I'm thinking Watkins in the first, then McCarron in the second. But Evans & Manziel... I could get behind it.

Here's the one I posted 3 days ago. I think something like this will take our offense to another level.

  1. Sammy Watkins WR Clemson
  2. Jace Amaro TE Texas Tech
  3. Morgan Moses OT Virginia
  4. Daquan Jones DT Penn State
  5. A.J. McCarron QB Alabama

To be honest, I don't know much about him, never seen him play. First impression is he's itty bitty, Trindon Holliday tiny. From what I gathered he looks like a UDFA.

Found some prospects I hadn't considered before. Seems like their board is changing as Boyd is know quite low in their listings.

1
QB TEDDY BRIDGEWATER
LOUISVILLE

I am 100% sold on taking Bridgewater at 1:1

33
OLB KYLE VAN NOY
BYU

Love Van Noy and his versatility. Really attracted to his ability to cover as well as rush.

65
S ED REYNOLDS
STANFORD

Ball hawking safety with the ability to develop. Think he really compliments what Swearinger brings to the table.

97
DT DAQUAN JONES
PENN STATE

Big strong DT to fit the system.

129
CB KEITH MCGILL
UTAH

Standout Senior Bowl CB. Competes with McCain to start with.

161
OT CORNELIUS LUCAS
KANSAS STATE

Huge prospect with good feet. Good pass protector who struggles in the run game due to his height.

193
TE JOE DON DUNCAN
DIXIE STATE

Small school prospect, good potential as a pass catching TE, great value in the 7th.

My latest:

1
QB TEDDY BRIDGEWATER
LOUISVILLE

33
DT LOUIS NIX III
NOTRE DAME, NT isn't our biggest need but the value was there so I took it.

65
CB BRADLEY ROBY
OHIO STATE, can't believe some quality CB depth fell this far.

97
DE JACKSON JEFFCOAT
TEXAS, this pick moves Reed to ILB.

129
OT JAMES HURST
UNC, broken bones heal better than tendons, future starter at RT.

161
S KENNY LADLER
VANDERBILT, hopefully this pick moves Keo off the roster.

193
TE MARCEL JENSEN
FRESNO STATE, athletic TE that was underused.
