Texans V Steelers Game Day Thread

I will never forget sittin' watchin the Oilers in Rice Stadium and he's sayin', "Why do they use that G@# Da$n prevent defense!!!!"

you call block in the back penalities for the same reason as horse collar penalties -- they lead to serious injury

TJ

Source?

Because that seems extremely impossible given that a person is being shoved in the SAME direction they were already running.

My beef is, after running the play again, Manning pulled up even with the kicker before he hit him. And he made contact with his shoulder/side. The kicker stumbled fwd after the contact and it looked - at real speed - like a block in the back.

It was a suspect call IMHO.

On the other hand, no way that kicker was going to catch Joseph so Manning didn't really need to make contact at all.

These penalties are not a fault of Kubiak...this is when your veteran leadership should step up and jump in the player's faces to get it under control. The coaches can not control what the players do on the field

most crews wouldnt have called it. theres a penalty somewhere on every play. good crews generally call the ones that affect the game. danieal shouldve known the way they were calling it based on earlier **** they were calling. still saved us 3 pts though

Yep. The NFL rules system AND the inconsistency in ref crews is a disaster in situations like today.

Look, I think it's best of we just run the ball and throw 5-yard routes all day. We can win the game IN SPITE OF THE REFS if we do that. They're just gonna' call holding on us on the long passing plays.

That's great........except it's the vets causing the penalties.

I disagree. I believe the coaches have direct impact on a lack of discipline.
Kubiak is the veteran leadership. Phillips is the veteran leadership. Players out of control committing ridiculously dumb penalties are akin to kids running in the hallways because the Principal and staff don't enforce any discipline.

I generally agree, but no amount of discipline is going to prevent that type of utter stupidity.

this game would be in the 4th Q if it wasn't for all of the penalties..

ground and pound really chews the clock..

if we can take a 2-score lead into the 4th Q we win IMO

in regards to discipline

I think some people forget how if a running back puts the ball on the ground, Kubiak won't let him see the field for a while
