Sure

LOL

Either a wasted pick or a big-time steal.

Jeremy Beal, LB, Oklahoma

Bad combine and senior bowl, but his gametape is undeniably good.

I like the pick, not a big need for the Raiders but if he had fallen to the 6th round I may have grabbed him. Now to make my pick, got 2-3 players I'm trying to decide between, should probably have my pick in shortly.

With the 145th pick in the draft, the Oakland Raiders select...

JGDRUXAXYLEOAAW.20100225170116.jpg

Derek Newton, OT, Arkansas State

Analysis:
Positives: Good initial quickness off the snap. Gains depth immediately with an efficient kick-slide. Long arms to reach the defender. Good lateral agility and balance to mirror the defender. Plays on the balls of his feet and with his knees bent. Shows good flexibility and at least moderate core strength to handle the bull rush. Good quickness and agility to block on the move in the running game. Shows a burst upfield and can re-direct. Good trap blocker due to his quickness and arm length. Beats the defender off the snap and can turn and seal the edge. Good recognition. Points out the blitzing defender and makes at least some of the line calls for this offense.

Negatives: Quick first step back off the snap, but takes too sharp of an angle when dropping back, giving the defender the edge. Thin arms with only moderate strength; unable to control the defender despite getting his hands on him. Better as a seal blocker moving in space than a drive blocker. Lacks the strength and too often the pad level to knock defenders off the ball. Would like to see nastiness in his play. Seems content with dancing rather than dominating.

To the eyeball test, dude looks a little skinny for an OT, not surprised to read he lacks strength.

Well then the Raiders will have to put him on the JaMarcus Russell Diet for a year. Then he will come back as a 320 pound offensive rock to anchor the O-line for years to come!

Either a wasted pick or a big-time steal.

Jeremy Beal, LB, Oklahoma

Bad combine and senior bowl, but his gametape is undeniably good.

CBS Sports has him ranked 147 on their list and in the Walter Mock, he went 156.

I think this is a nice spot for him but I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't go a little earlier because of his tape.

The Eagles select Alex Henery K/P Nebraska.
Akers did not sign his tender. Rocca is also a FA though he did sign a tender.

Henery is a very unique player. I can not think of a kicker who can both kick and punt at an NFL level. Henery can.
Can hit the long FG and has kicked outdoors in the cold and wind at Neb. By being both the kicker and punter, Henery opens a roster spot for a position player.

Wouldn't bank on Henery being an NFL quality punter, but he is a very consistent and clutch kicker.

what is this infatuation with DE's in the swamp called Jacksonville

Quentin Groves was traded to the Raiders, Derrick Harvey has been a colossal bust, Larry Hart and Austen Lane were 5th round draft picks last year. So they actually need a bit of help at DE. But I am going to give Beal a chance at OLB along with Martez Wilson, in their hybrid defense. Kerrigan will start at DE with Austen Lane.

Well he's 6'5 311 lbs, so he could definitely could use another 10-20 pounds. He's isn't what comes to mind when you think of an ideal OT...but maybe in 2-3 years he'll be able to develop into one.

Yup, that'll do the trick :D.

So funny that in the NFL we are calling 300lb guys underweight, so different to real life.

With the 147th pick the Minnesota Vikings select...

AlabamavSouthCarolina016g2ggMivUl.jpg

Chris Culliver, FS, South Carolina

Showed good instincts as a free safety. While aggressive, Culliver was rarely out of position and showed the discipline to stay home on trick plays and misdirection. Reads the eyes of the quarterback and gets a good break on the ball. Normal acceleration with a late burst to close. Quick, active hands in press coverage. Understands zone concepts and due to his experience at free safety and cornerback, understands the role of each member of the secondary.

Via Proxy Selection: Senor Stan selects

148.) Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Brandon Hogan, CB, West Virgina

good pick jc

good pick jc

Agreed

Both Pronski and Culliver are great values at this point and I hope the Texans pick one of them in the 3/4 rd range.

The talent is there this yr on the defensive side of the ball. Rick and Gary just have to do their jobs.

Not to brag or anything but Move over Prince Amukamara, mock drafts predicting Tyron Smith to Cowboys

By JON MACHOTA / Special Contributor
Published 26 March 2011 01:38 PM
Related items When I last published a mock draft roundup on March 8, Prince Amukamara was the hot name linked to the Dallas Cowboys. Of the 13 mock drafts included, all 13 had the Cowboys taking the cornerback from Nebraska with their ninth overall selection.

However, things have changed quite a bit since then. During a recent gathering of projections, Tyron Smith has gained a considerable amount of momentum. In mock drafts compiled since March 16, Smith has overtaken Amukamara as the favorite to land in Dallas.

The 6-5, 315 pound offensive tackle from USC, who many consider to be the top blocker in this class, is scheduled to be one of the 30 players the Cowboys interview before the draft on April 28.

The dramatic change from Amukama’s name being chosen across the board is peculiar because it doesn’t appear that the defensive back has done much since early March to warrant a rise or fall in his stock. Some publications had the 6-0, 205 pounder falling while others had him being grabbed a pick or two before the Cowboys would have a chance at adding him to their secondary.

The defensive end position also produced a few possible future Cowboy candidates. Wisconsin’s J.J. Watt, North Carolina’s Robert Quinn and surprisingly, even Clemson’s Da’Quan Bowers were each mentioned as No. 9 picks in mock drafts. Bowers has been considered a top five pick and the best pass rusher in the draft by several analysts.

Just quietly at this stage there are so many mocks with people going so many places that everyone has been selected by everyone at least once.

In saying that I hope you are all right and Smith does go before us so another defender falls to us.

Well at the time it seemed I was going against the grain. It was unanimous consensus Cowboys would select Prince Amukamara. When I found out I was going to be selecting for the Cowboys, my game plan was to look at as many angles as possible to fill their most pressing needs while snagging BPA with every pick. The key to this was nailing that OT with 1st pick. I was in the minority giving Tyron Smith a Top 10 grade, even on our group Big Board, last I checked he was slotted #13. Then I was able to focus on secondary needs (CB, Curtis Brown & CB Brandon Burton who I project could be one hell of a FS). With the 4th rd. pick took one of the drafts toughest inside OG's to fill out revamped Cowboys right side. Mario Harvey is my sleeper pick & Cowboys need inside LB help.

long story short, taking Tryon helped facilitate a very strong draft for Cowboy nation.

You've done a great job filling most of the holes for the Cowgirls with great/good talent. JJ wont do as good a job in the war room.

Rd.1 Smith-love pick, Perfect RT as a rookie, has ability to move to LT with experience.
Rd.2 C.Brown-Meh, He has the ability to be a solid CB with some coaching.
Rd.3 Burton-He has more god given ability than Brown, Could turn out to be a very good CB, or at worst an upgrade at FS. Love pick
Rd.4 Schilling- very good player and an upgrade over Montrae Holland, I like Moffitt more. Matter of taste
Rd.5 Harvey-Steal of the draft, I believe he will be a 10 yr starter, dude is a playmaker.

Bah, JC Texan and BL have all had great Mock drafts. Job well done.

I also like JB/Steel B's- Carolina draft, LOL

Thanks. Do you like both the Vikings & Saints drafts?

Thanks. Do you like both the Vikings & Saints drafts?

Vikings draft made taking Gabbert, I think he could wind up being selected #1 overall? not a fan of Sheard, love Rackley & Culliver selections. projecting Ian in a 4-3 front different.

grade so far: above average

Saints need a RB, the position is undervalued in our mock draft. Austin is a steal, borderline first round talent. I agree that Acho is better suited to be a 4-3 RDE. Foster looks like a solid WILL.

grade so far: above average

Love the Saints draft

Looking at the Vikings draft, If Gabbert is what he's supposed to be this is a great draft. I love all of the picks. Sheard wasn't even a reach. If he lives up to his potential your Vikings mock will be the best in this draft. Other than Bah's based on sheer # of picks.

So where are we at with this?

I take it whoever is up as till 2pm to make their pick or we group pick it?

149.) Indianapolis Colts - ArlingtonTexan (On the clock since 8am)

150.) Philadelphia Eagles - jgl35

151.) Detroit Lions - pbat488

152.) Washington Redskins - Trap_Star

153.) Seattle Seahawks - The Pencil Neck

154.) Seattle Seahawks - The Pencil Neck

Colts draft so far:

Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconson
Rodney Hudson OL, Florida State
Jacquizz Rodgers, RB, Oregon state
Ahamd Black, S, Florida

They should probably go with a front 7 position. They could use some help at DT.

This concludes the Eagles draft as they have no picks in the last two rounds.
What I wanted to do is get a starting guard and depth on the interior O. line. With Pouncey and Ijalana, I drafted a starter at RG and two players that can play more than one position along the line. Along with Mike McGlynn, the Eagles now have three young players on the interior line.

I took DB Gilchrist as he also can return kick-offs, and also to compete with Tervard Lindley for a starting CB position. Let me say here that I expect the Eagles to make a big run and sign Asomugha from Oakland if things return to normal. The Eagles will go after and sign high price free agents. The last name free agent CB was Samuel, who the Eagles signed.

Jarrett Safety was taken in case Quintin Mikell leaves in FA. The Eagles only carried 4 Safteys, so someone is needed.

Herzlich was too good a player to pass on, even with the health risk. The Eagles need help at OLB so this is also a position of need.

Henery was selected because Akers did not sign his tender. Henery is a cold weather, outdoor kicker, and one of the better ones to come out in quit a while.

Lewis will be a very good back up to LeSean McCoy.

With the 151st pick in the Texans Talk mock draft, the Detroit Lions select....

Allen-2.jpg

Pierre Allen, DE, Nebraska

A solid player for a great Nebraska defense over the past couple of years, he reteams with Suh to make the Lions D-Line even more formidable. Learns from Vanden Douche the finer points of the game as he eases into the starting role within a couple of years with a more refined pass rush technique.

Detroit Lions draft so far:
1. Anthony Castonzo, OT, BC
2. Bruce Carter, OLB, UNC
3. Johnny Patrick, CB, Louisville
4. K.J. Wright, LB, Mississippi State
5. Pierre Allen, DE, Nebraska

Allen wasn't one to leap off game film or terrorize quarterbacks but he is disciplined and holds up well at the point of attack. He'll work hard and show up every day.

Most draft preview sights have him as a 3rd or 4th rounder so you may have hit on a steal here.
