Division standings say that.....

HTown2ATX

TexansMetalhead
.........JAX is the leader. WOW.

That's how wide open our division is this year. INDY has fallen off a bit, Possum Squallor is having issues as most inbreds would, Texans consistentlty open up like a "pro" in vegas so therefore JAX, effing JAX....you know.....the team with all the tarp fans in the stands....yeah....that team that may not even be there in a year or 2......yyyyeeeeaaahhhhhh

They lead the division.

Just simmer on that for a bit. Had the Texans won at least 2 of the last 3 games in which they could have won despite the diahretic secondary we would still be the division leaders.

Time to go stand in the middle of the street blindfolded......excuse me....

:gun:

If "ifs" and "buts" were fruits and nuts, Oh what a Merry Christmas we would have.

The lowly Jags are in first, and the Texans are in last. Maintaining the status quo and being a "stable" organization isn't doing much for the record. Two years of opportunity wasted and counting.

I guess it sucks to be a Texan fan...keep up with the tarp jokes, if that makes you feel happy. By the way, no blackouts this season. I like the no respect for the Jags..keep it up..we'll be the true dark horse...just imagine if they do win the division?

I'm just pissed. I know the tarp thing is old. It's just crazy that the Jags who were supposed to be bad by all means and signs before the season are possibly going to win the division. The Texans, who were supposedly on the rise are again in the cellar.

All I was trying to mainly say was that should be us.

I'll say though, I'd rather see the Jags win rather than the Tits or Colts.

I was trying to rip the Texans more so than the Jags.

Why do people constantly sleep on the Jags?

Guys, look. I said last summer to a buddy of mine: The Jags are a well coached team, and we are going to lose to them. He dismissevely said, "They have no talent. I'm not worried about them."

Every year, it's the same old thing: People leave the Jags to die, then, halfway through the season, they look up and notice that the Jags are winning games. Then, next thing you know, they are in the playoff hunt.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is coaching. The Jags have a TON of distractions - they can't sell tickets, people slam them, there is talk of moving the team - and yet, they always play aggressively and are always "in the hunt."

I have always respected Jack DelRio, and continue to do so.

Yet another season that was ripe for the taking, but ultimately ends in failure.

The Texans suck, the Rockets suck and the Stros are bound to suck. The life of a Houston sports fan. :gun:

Meh, I have too much fishin and huntin to look forward to. No reason to waste my time with these jackov's.

Looking at the remaining schedule, I'm thinking the Colts are going to win this with a 9 to 11 win record. I think Jacksonville has the toughest of the remaining schedule and will struggle down the wire. We take the win at the end of the season becuase that's what we do. It's a shame with the way things have unfolded, becuase the other teams are doing (for the most part) what we thought (hoped) would happen for us to take the division this season.

Teams take on the personality of their coaches. Last night I was watching a Kubiak interview, and he was discussing what he could possibly say to make the players "feel better".

I wonder if Del Rio struglles with his players' feelings after a couple of nonsense losses.

I'm not taken shots at the Jags, because as a Texan fan I only wish we had your record right now and your position in the division. Actually I don't think we've beat you guys since 2008, right ?
Hey man, if we can't take advantage of opportunites in this division more power to you guys if you can.

I knew this season was lost after Indy. It's just too bad the Texans don't have a head coach, because even as bad as they play, they still have a shot at the division.

That being said, I'm rooting for 4-12, and get a high draft pick for the next coaching staff, and hope Bob blindly hits the coaching lottery. Even if there is a lockout and a new staff only gets 2 weeks to implement their system, it's bound to be better than the crap we have to watch week after week now.

I think the Colts have a harder schedule...going to Oakland day after xmas won't be easy! Colts have to play the Chargers, who always has their number, then Cowboys, whom have come out of the grave. Add on 3 divisonal games? Interesting finish to this season. I think it's up for grabs!

I truly hope they stay in Jacksonville. It's nice to have a pro team in North Florida, especially one that my team visits once a year.

Sure there will be those ifs and buts comments but as fans sometimes this is all we can talk about. :)

We SHOULD have pulled out the victory against the Jags.
We SHOULD have pulled out the victory against the Jets.

These are games where we COMPLETELY gave the game away in the final seconds. It's not a series of plays where if this or that happened we coulda squeeked out a victory... these are games... oh my gosh I'm getting upset again. The JETS, WTF happened those last few plays. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE playcall on the Edwards deep grab and terrible execution. Then the JAGS, I'm just going to leave it at WTF.

Easily should be 6-4 right now because of the last 2 games. They aren't losses like the dog jumped up on the kitchen counter and ate all the hamburger meat. We f*%#ing put the hamburger meat in the g*ddamn dogbowl and are scratching our heads like the dog just did something bad by eating it.

You guys are a joke. We're not much better but your record is fools gold. If you win the division it will be a one and done. Indy is playing nothing but backups.

I don't have the hatred for the Jags that some Texans fans do but if you make the playoffs you'll show as well or worse than the bungles did last year. There is a motherboard for smart azz fans of other teams though. It is their OWN board.

At least we don't have delusions that our team is actually worth a shyte.

Dude, you can't be serious. The Jags are a team that has no where near the talent we have, yet they manage to grind out wins.

As I said earlier in this thread, it's the same thing every year with this team: They sneak up on everyone and get wins when no one is looking.

Say what you want about their record, but it is what it is, for now. Jack DelRio is a great coach who plays old-school, big-lineman, puch-you-in-the-mouth football. Gary Kubiak believes in the ballerina type of football, where lineman are flexible and can sashay around the field like little bitches.

Jags fans have a right to brag.

The Kittens are taking advantage of the situation in the AFC South this year, the Moo Cows are not.

Umm

Jax@ Indy .. they still have to play in da barn yard

Jax@ HOU ...........end of the year we could knock them off and help indy get a bye week or something

Jus sayin

Mike, you're the joke...ask any Texan fan, would you like to be one an done this season? I assume everyone on this site would say, YES! It's ok, you guys haven't even sniffed the playoffs. By the way if the season end right now, it would be Patriots at Jax...at home :) I like that...gold's gold or not!

Could happen? Jags play well in Indy...Titans going to get some revenge from the Monday night disaster. Jags have to win atleast 2 of the 3 divisional games, to have a chance. Texans might be the spoiler? Are you gonna wear the battle red?

that's crazy, stuff like this would make me want a change more than anything that has taken place on the field the last couple of weeks.

I've been a football fan long enough that no, I don't want to be one and done. When this team finally gets off the ground I want it to be for an 8 or 9 year stretch. Given the choice between being the Colts or the Jags over the last decade, I'll take the Colts. Given the choice between rebuilding for 5 or 10 years and eventually having a good solid 10 year run... or being the Jags and being a slightly above mediocre team every other year and then finding the cellar the next... I'll just wait it out. The Texans have been a disgrace, and if you'll noitce I didn't say "You personally are a joke", your team is. Congrats for winning some games and all but your team is still a joke. I didn't say "the Texans are better than you guys"... I said you guys are bad. How good the Texans are has nothing to do with how good you guys are. You won't make the playoffs, your team isn't good enough. I said IF and that is a huge if. Our team defense obviously isn't either.

The difference is you've got a good coach who puts people in a position to make plays. Our defense is a joke. Unfortunately the punch line of our joke is much much worse than anything on your team.

As for me being a joke? I'm just candid. Sorry if you want me to believe you guys are anything more than an 8 win team in disguise. I just don't buy it. Your team has a little more toughness and that will win you a reliable number of games but you lack the talent to beat teams with talent AND a good coach.

Exactly, If the Texans were in the Jags shoes right now. I'd be pulling for you guys. I don't know what is going on with the Texans? Seems there is curse on you guys, last season Kris Brown's missed kicks and this seasons 2ndary collapes. It hurts, I know the feeling.

Yeah dude, like I said earlier in response to you originally, I'd pull for the jags in our division if nothing more than for pure hatred for the tits and the fact that i'm tired of the colts.

There's not really "bad blood" between the texans and jags, so i'm cool with seeing them knock off the tits and colts.

Good response, but you're in denial...keep waiting. I rather be competive, even if it was every other year. Face it, to have a team last a decade in the NFL is very hard to do... you need a Manning/Brady. I don't see Schabb in that catergory. Funny, I'm not even looking to the playoff's, I want the division. If that happens, then want the playoffs to come to Jax. Did I say the Jags were a superior team? Nope...but, I think they are starting to "click"...the defense, in the 1st time in 2 years won the game vs. Browns. Good teams "click" in November and December. You find ways to win, does not matter on style and grace. Jags on a 3 game win streak...big test Sunday in NY. Probably will lose, but Giants are playing poor now..not "clickin'" We'll see? As for the Texans, redeem yourself and kick some Titans butt!

I have no bad blood at all with Texans...I like your team, but we're in the same division, so I got root against you 2 times a year. LOL It's a long shot for the Jags to win this division, but they have a chance. If they can keep "clicking" along...there is a posiblity? I loathed the Titans!!! Revenge is coming soon to them...please take care of them Sunday!!!!!!:cow::cow:

Screw that

i wanna sweep the titans and split with the jags

IF we are in misery i wanna take the TItans and jags with me

and i hope the colts lose the WC round LOL

I hear ya man. 2 times a year i hate yall damnit! crazy **** seems to happen when our teams play each other.

I was talking about this year though....when we play again i gotta root against yall, but after that....shoot, go get the division man. eff the colts and tits.

I hate the Titans more than my ex wife.... and that's a lot.

Yes, bring us all down!!! Or Texans win the rest of their games and pull out the divisional winner? It could happen?

i already know what the players and kubes are thinking win out get to 10-6 and make the playoffs nothing has changed yet

next week is a big game your right on that

LOL!!! Same here..those darn Titans have done serious damage to the Jags. Face it, the Texans and Jags are almost the same team...check out the stats! Our games have all be fun to watch...except that Monday night blow out in 2008..ouch! The Texans still have a shot this season(mathmatically), you guys will have to win them all...would be 4-2 in division...just saying...anything could happen. Keep the faith.

I'm not in denial. I have different preferences. I have the advantage of having been through this in another sport. The Rockets for the better part of a decade (92-2000) were not just competitive. They were at the top of the league year in and year out. We won 2 championships and almost never played a game that we didn't have the expectation that we would win. Contrast that with the Yao Ming era. We are perennially competitive but never win anything. We are a borderline playoff team sometimes as high as 3rd or 4th in the conference but we know that when push comes to shove we're not an elite team.

Guess what. I'll build for 20 years if I get 8-10 like the Rockets of the 90's give you. Oh. And I'm old enough to remember the 85-86 Rockets too. We went to the NBA finals one year and were a mildly competitive team for the rest of the decade but not elite until the 90's.

As a Jags fan you don't know any better. I've dealt with it with all three sports. The Oilers, while they never actually realized their potential were among the top 3 or 4 teams in the league for at least half a decade in the Moon era and we went into almost every game (save the 1-4 start before we won 11 straight) with the expectation that we would win. Yeah, that was better than the one and done.

Maybe you're under the impression that we don't really know what its like because the Texans are a young franchise. Maybe you think that my football fandom started with the Texans.

I have been a diehard fan of UT, the Astros, the Rockets, the Oilers and the Texans. We have a long history, some of it rich and some of it not so rich. I don't know who you followed before the Jags but you have basically one experience. You've had a team that's had promise almost every year and seemed like you guys realized about 75% of the promise at best. Save your first playoff appearnance you guys are the pre 2005 football version of the Houston Astros. Always decent never great.

Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe you are a Lakers fan or a Yankees fan.... Or even a Marlin's fan. Either way, save me the lecture about denial. I'm not the one annointing a team that is long on heart and short on talent the division crown.

As for Schaub, I don't know why you seem to think he's THAT far below an elite QB. His numbers aren't as good as they were last year but I'll argue that over the last two years he's done everything you could ask of a QB to win games. There were 4 games last year that he put his team in the positon to win or tie the game on the last drive (2 missed field goals and 2 times the RB couldn't gain a yard) and then again this year he's done it 4 times (Washington, KC, Jags, Jets). The last time he had the ball in each of the games he gave his team the chance to win. That is pretty clutch. The fact that the defense is a sieve doesn't really mean much when you're evaluating him.

Is he a Manning/Brady? Certainly not yet, but lets remember that it wasn't until Bob Sanders got to Indy that everyone said that Manning was another Marino and not a "clutch". Get Schaub a defense and we might have a different conversation.

As for redeeming ourselves. That won't happen until we make S and CB a real priority. I'm not a fan of "big name free agents"... but in our case, if we were able to sign Jacque Reeves twice this team is probably a 11-13 win team. That's how big of a flaw our secondary is. AVERAGE players/Average secondary coaching would make this a borderline elite team.

Mike

Mike, I understand what you're saying and you've suffered though 50/50 teams..ect, but the Texans have done squat in the NFL. If I was a Texans fan, I'd like to be in the playoff, to get that monkey off your back. Good luck for the rest of the season.

Sorry, but I thought the analogy was funny as hell.

If anything, I've become a better football fan as a result of the Texans mediocrity. I've become much less up and down than I was as a younger fan. I think that generally I don't get too high or too low on our team. Sure the games are a roller coaster but after the final whistle blows I'm much more realistic about our team. I've never predicted us to win more than 9 games (until this year).

All in all, I'm not as disgruntled as some here and I think that mediocrity has forced me to be objective and see my team for what it is. I'm sure when we do finally build a winner (and I'm not convinced that it is 2 or 3 years away, I think we're two key pieces away) that I'll get the emotions back. The biggest problem is that my other two major sports have been taken away from me. I won't watch basketball as long as the officiating remains the absolute worst among any sport I've ever seen and baseball, between the advantages given to the batter (I miss 3-1 games) and the ineptitude of the Astros I rarely watch baseball either. I'll suffer through the Texans as I get to watch them grow. Despite what others think, this team is growing... it is just painfully, painfully slow.

If the Texans were my first team ever, yeah I might want that monkey off my back... but I've been around long enough to realize that there will be a monkey till we win a superbowl. It will always be something (make the playoffs, win a playoff game, win a conference championship and then win a superbowl). The reality is you're no going to win a Superbowl in your first trip to the playoffs. I'd rather go 8 out of 10 years and have a shot to win the big dance than go every other year content with 2 playoff wins in a decade. (See the astros pre-2005 for that).

The Jags have a right to brag just like we did at 3-1 or 4-2. It doesn't mean they are actually as good as their record says.

No offense, but that's a heaping pile of crap.

Being mediocre has made you a BETTER fan? How? It sounds like you're one of those people who refuses to pick a side and put all of their emotions behind something.

Also, I think you're a rare Texan fan. If you polled most Texans fans today, we would GLADLY take Jacksonville's spotty playoff record over what we have now.

You said you'll suffer through the Texans as they "grow." That's what I used to say. That used to be my line: It's fascinating to watch an NFL team grow from scratch. And it was - for a while. But this is getting old. We're not growing. We have peaked.

You want to wait 30 years for a playoff bid. That's your business. I'm not. I refuse to apologize for demanding excellence, and will never apologize for thinking like a winner. Ever.

I have no idea how old you are so I don't know your frame of reference.

By a better fan, I mean more educated and more knowledgable. I understand way more about defenses and offenses now than I ever did.

I don't want to wait 30 years for a playoff bid, obviously. I would however say that the Colts fans are pretty satisfied with the team since they moved to Indy. For the record they won an average of 6 games a season (never more than 9) from 84-99. Since 99 they have won an average of 11.6 (one 6 win season) and have already won 6 this year.

I didn't say "the average", I said me. As for playoff appearances, they made 3 in the first 15 years of the franchise. That is one in the first decade, two in the 95-96.

I want long term success. Steelers success... We've got an owner who is willing to let football people make football decisions. Eventually we will get the right people in place and when we do we won't Jerry Jones it up. Before you give me "they wone 3 SBs"... they did so while Jerrah wasn't making football decisions. He was letting JJ make the decisions. As long as Bob lets his football people make football decisions we'll be ok in the long run.

I don't want mediocrity, I don't want a joke of a team... but I'm willing to wait. I've been all over the map and nothing is sweeter than sustained success.

I am 38. So, yes, like you, I have "been around." And, you know what? Being 38 and having watched lots of football, I can tell you that it does not take five years in the NFL to get to the playoffs. It doesn't.

And, yes, I want an organization built like the Steelers. However, the Steelers have high standards. I believe Mike Tomlin said something recently to the effect that players have to "act like Steelers" or "play like a Steeler" or something like that. What he meant was that there are no excuses. None. Zilch. Either you act like a Steeler, or you are done.

As I said, you go ahead and continue to wait. Take Kubiak out for a beer, while you're at it.

Brag! you think I'm on here to brag...LOL Where you were bragging at the beginning of the season for the Texans?

Thank you, I completely agree, you stated what I've been thinking...Mike thinks he knows it all...I'm 36, right behind ya on that football/sports watching! LOL

I understand what Mike is saying when it comes to there will always be something. We may get to the playoffs but then it'll be "when will we win one of these". Then after we win a wild card game it will be "when will we get to the conference championship game". Etc.

The Jaguars really have nothing to be overly excited about. They have been pretty average for many years under JDR, but they still have a reason to be excited. They've stumbled into a 6-4 record, and if they start to play a little better they may have a shot to make a small run. Maybe not a superbowl run, but a run nonetheless. They have been playing better recently. David Garrard is what is holding that team back right now. He had 4 turnovers in that game against Cleveland.

The thing that the Jags have that we have never had (or not since the start) is a pretty decent defense. They sacked McCoy 6 times and forced him out of the pocket ALOT. Have the Texans ever had 6 sacks in a game?

The bottom line is that you and I want the same thing. I don't think there is a damn thing either one of us can do about it. I've stopped buying Astros gear completely and I turn them off if I see them on. When they start making reasonable decisions in the FO (maybe they have with the youth movement) I'll turn them on. That is the only way I have of protesting. I've got no choice to wait.

I do think that there is one problem with this team. We went young with the secondary.

All of the fans are screaming bloody murder (I've done it too) right now because we went with the young secondary. They screamed when we didn't take VY or Bush too. 5 years later the Texans look pretty smart for taking Mario over the odds on "favorite". If Kubes comes back (I'm not sure I want that) and the secondary develops (Bush needs to be gone yesterday)... 5 years from now the Texans may very well have been to the playoffs for 5 straight years on the backs of Johnson, Foster, Schaub, Mario, Smith, Cushing, Ryans (or his replacement) and a few other key pieces. We may all sit around talking about how it was the right thing to go young in the secondary and how this year was a learning experience. The difference between the fans and the coaches are the fans are fine to want to go all out for one good year... the front office however has a different task... they have to worry about the long term success of the franchise. You and I can argue all day about do this or do that... but we'll never know how our decisions play out.

Did we give up too much for Schaub? I thought we should have added Turner as well.

I'll wait it out. Not like you OR I have a choice. There has been a lot done right with this team. Its hard to ignore that. There have definitely been mistakes made but this is a championship level offense with a 2nd grade level secondary. If they could actually get off the field on 3rd down we'd see this offense have the ball another 5 minutes or more every game... The secondary is literally the turd in the rose bush if you ask me.

Mike

Yet another season that was ripe for the taking, but ultimately ends in failure.

The Texans suck, the Rockets suck and the Stros are bound to suck. The life of a Houston sports fan. :gun:

Meh, I have too much fishin and huntin to look forward to. No reason to waste my time with these jackov's.

I'm not looking for excuses, but it seems we always see the reasons why we should be doing better than what we are. We never see the reasons why we should be doing worse.

Everyone says they understand the mediocrity, we're a perennial mediocre team..... But we get upset that we don't play like Super Bowl contenders.

I keep hearing that we underachieved in 2009, we won 9 games. Like there is evidence out there that we are a 10 win team, or an 11 win team.

You are what your record says you are, last year we were 9-7... missed the play-offs on a tie-breaker.

This year, we are 4-6 with 6 games to play...... it's not over yet.
