NFL Draft 2010: Day 1

How many carries/touches a game did DeAngelo Williams and Chris Johnson get? They're not built like Steven Jackson.

The fact is that Spiller has the skills to make a huge impact in our running game. He runs outside, he can hit holes up the middle, he can catch, he can return kicks if we need him to. If he and Slaton and Foster or whatever Goalline back we draft (please, God!) split, then nobody has to take too much beating over the course of a season.

If that's the WORST case scenario, I'll take it any draft day.

Ditto. Spiller has a bit of Bush, some Chris Johnson, mixed with a splash of Brian Westbrook, and topped with a slight hint of Marshall Faulk.

I'm not saying I'll cry if they pass on him, but I would be excited about the possibilities and the guy is a threat to score every time he touches the ball.

that being said i was in the 7-7.5 range last yr with cush when i shouldve been 11!

I was all over Cush last yr. and was really hoping we'd take him...I knew what he would add to a defense full of softies and he did just that...

That's Justice' article in your link. I'd blow a cripple coon before listening to what he has to say. Kinda pissed I even clicked your link. :)

Ugh. Justice called Houston a Hick's town in the comments section. Not real receptive to that. What a jerk. Ship him off to Nome. There's a radio tower there he can rotate on.

I doubt spiller is on the board but I'd really like that pick as well...

My (semi-reasonable to reasonable) order of preference for first rd picks is:

1. Earl Thomas
2. CJ Spiller
3. Taylor Mays
4. Iuapati
5. Trade Down
6. Ryan Matthews
7. Kyle Wilson or Devin McCourty

Manning will eat the guy alive. His hips are slow. I get it he has a great forty and has highlight big shot hits. His straight line 4.3 leads you to believe that that will translate into football functional speed. But that straight line speed doesn't mean jack squat on third and long. He is not instinctive. He can not cover. there is no margin for error in this draft.

I here ya, bro. I have been that "likes to fight" guy in a long time, but if I ran into that dude on the street I'm not sure I'd be able to harness the haymaker that's been saving for that asshat. Mfer looks like Beaker too

Hips matter more for CB's than they do for safety's...If I'm not mistaken, the texans safetys don't play a bunch of man covg and mostly play deep zones...Even if he doesn't have the fastest opening of his hips, I wouldn't be too concerned about it...I'm more concerned about his recognition and closing speed...If he goes to a system where the FS has to play a lot of man, he will struggle IMO...

I'm not into making matter-of-fact statments about players, but I do think that he is a really good physical specimen and opposing teams will have to take notice of him on the field...

I understand your concersns about his covg., but I just think that with the right coaches in a good system this guys has the potential fo be good..

If he has to cover all day long, he will probably not do as well, but if he is able to play facing the QB with a decent pass rush in front of him I think he will flourish...

Might have something to do with Wilson going down and having to rely on Busing and Barber, no? Wilson's the only FS we have that can cover worth a darn. If we had a decent to good FS and a good nickel CB that can cover, then we could do other things in the back end. IMO, of course

If kyle wilson,cj spiller, dan williams and ryan matthews are still on the board, who do the texans take?

To me, it'd be between Wilson and Williams from the 4 mentioned here. I'd probably lean towards Wilson due to experience, whereas, Williams was more of a 1 year wonder, IMO

I will make a prediction if the Texans will stay@ 20........M. Pouncey, why? Becuz, I think Kubiak with Dennison wants to strengten the OLine, which in turn can protect Matt & make the running game much better! Also, I think ET will be gone before the 20 pick. They can get a RB in the 2nd (Tate or Tobey G., & CB in the 3rd., a S or DT in the 4th. Hahaha! Anyway, this is just my 2 cents!:voodoo: Draft WELL Texans!

Well if you want him that bad Rey, hold you breath on the fifty one . But I'm telling you unless the guy can transition to will backer he'll be a special teamer only. And if he can't transition to the will he'll be out of the league in four years. If looks and times were all that mattered our pick would be Bruce Campbell the OT from Maryland. At least he'd scare 'em as he was walking off the bus. No one is going to be afraid of Taylor Mays cruzin' our back four. He is dysfunctional in coverage. He doesn't make plays. and there is no coach who can fix that. He's played behind some of the finest front seven football players in football. After four years of watching him most folks get it. He is not instinctive and he does not make plays.

For the love of God no more d-lineman in the first or second round..in fact none at all..that being said count on a DE being drafted..cause what do I know.....

Hmmm wait didnt I predict that not drafting a rb last year would cost the Texans,,and it did.

RB- #1 priority because the four to five year life of a rb matches our window of opportunity...our future is now.
Secondary-If earl Thomas is there then pick in first if not rb

O-lineman protect the #1 passer in the NFL and create holes is always good.

If we draft a DE before those needs are met then I am throwing comp at TV and If I hear tweener I think I will vomit.

I'm terrified of spending another 1st round pick on a player from Fresno State, thus I'm hoping for Kyle Wilson due to the aerial attack that we will be recieving from everyone this year. He seems like the safest bet, plus he has dread locks which makes him faster and more agile.

Plus the dreads make the transition from D-Rob to Wilson that much easier.

il see your HWSNBN and raise you jared zabransky!:aggressive:

that being said id rather wilson over mathews aswell

Our secondary is lacking in dreads now. All good secondaries have dreads, we need (dare I say it) a dread head in the defensive backfield.

i disagree. who the best dreadlocked cb? mike jenkins? asante samuel? i might be forgetting somebody but i cant think of a premier cb with dreads

How could you forget about Dunta! The man gets paid like a top CB so he must be one of the best...right?

Kyle Wilson is probably going to be available, unless we trade down and get another Duane Brown player (guy, no one knows anything about). Hope its Kyle Wilson, we need him.

Wouldn't mind Wilson, but McCourty would fit right in with our new "knock the snot out of you" defense. Plus, he's a good cover CB too. I like'em both

There is a lot of talent to like in this draft.

He's been flying up the charts, you think it would be worth a first round pick if we moved down and got him instead of Wilson?

i actually had him instead of jenkins originally but hes pretty old now and coming off a bad injury so changed it. hes been very good the last few years alright though. still not premier though. so let the dreads debate continue. bad sign when we'r stuck on this & still over 2 hrs left!

Quin's pretty physical, so we need a cover corner to give us a "Stick'em and Pick'em" pair of CB's - The defensive backfield version of Thunder and Lightning

I'm thinking this way also because of the depth at rb as usual and at the dt this year. They could get wilson and in the 2nd get linvale joseph from ecu who is on the rise. The reshuffle from the day 2 to 3 is going to be off the chain.

I think the craziest rumor I heard today was Pittsburgh trading Big Ben (and I guess the 18th pick) to Oakland for the 8th pick and Nmandi Asomugha, but it seems that has been debunked and that Ben will play for Pittsburgh this year.

Also DRAFT DAY!

There are some insane rumors and possible draft picks coming on profootballtalk.com right now.

Interesting that Tebow's people are saying he is going to be a top 15 pick. I would love that since it would push some talent down to us. Jax could very well be taking him with their #10 pick.

If media hype is all we want, we would draft Tebow lol. He'll be followed religiously for the next several years.

Well lets put the facts together.

We have rumours of the Texans wanting to trade up to get their guy.

Tebow 'knows' he is a top 15 pick.

Maybe Nitro is onto something.

This sucks. I'm not going to be able to get home until 8:45 or 9 tonight.

Ten minutes per pick starting at 6:30, 20 picks in, hey I might be home by the time they pick. :woot2:

If Bud have moved the Oilers to Jacksonville instead of Possum Holler and was facing the same economic problems Wayne Weaver is now facing, would you want to draft Tebow just as a big eff you to Bud Adams?

Just a purely fun hypothetical, nothing behind it, just wanna see what y'all say :texans:
