Vince Young – Back in the Saddle Again!

Is anyone else seeing a trend with VY? He's great when he's taking over winless teams whose playoffs aspirations are pretty much shot. We'll see next year if he reverts back to his old self when he's back to being the "guy" on a team expected to be in the playoffs.

I will always hate the team thieving Titans but in the end it won't matter. Because as magical as Vince can be, he will never be able to break the Bud Adams' Curse. If Vince wants to win a championship one day (long way off) he needs to know that he will never win one with the Titans. They will always and forever be one yard short.

You don't really believe that.

My hatred isn't for the Titans themselves but for Bud. When Bud finally goes to hell I'll be able to be happy for the Titans should they ever win the big one.

I know I do. I am 1/2 expecting the Titans to win out through Week 16, only fail in the final week when victory against lowly Seattle would guarantee them a playoff spot.

The curse is deliciously evil like that. :devilpig:

I believe!

And now, Dread-Head presents a re-enactment of a scene from Braveheart:

Pud Adams (Playing Robert the Bruce's father): "At last, you know what it means to hate. Now you're ready to be a prick."

Dread-Head (Playing Robert the Bruce): "My hate will die with you."

You don't really believe that.

I was going to ask why you wouldn't believe that until I saw your age. You were just a tike when the Oilers were pulling all of their chokejobs here. However they are still doing there, last year case in point.

they only quit in the Snow Bowl game in Foxboro v. the Pats. It was a monumental quit but still just one game.

There is nothing surreal about what is happening. Vince has some tools that allow him to be a very difficult QB to prepare for and to stop on 3rd Down. He is a tough guy to stop especially when you have to worry about stopping the most explosive player in the league, Chris Johnson.

I saw what a Collins Titans team did in Week2. Fail. I saw what a Young Titans team did in Week 10. Young is good and he better be because they spent a #3 overall pick on him and lots of $$.

I will always hate the team thieving Titans but in the end it won't matter. Because as magical as Vince can be, he will never be able to break the Bud Adams' Curse. Vince is an average QB but a phenominal football player. Hard to deny that.

Dude, that is some unsubstantiated BS. Try another spin.

The guy has a .700 winning percentage like 23-11. WTF dude. He came into a 1-3 team as a rookie and was one road win v. the Patriots (in their glory days) away from playoffs his rookie year. His 2nd year they went to the playoffs. His 3rd year he got hurt, showed some immaturity in how he handled adversity, and lost his job to a guy that won 13 games last year.

So are you saying because he couldn't beat the Patriots on the road Week 17 in 2006 as a rookie, he is somehow a scrub?

FWIW, no one sees that trend because frankly, you just made it up.

Nice try though. It would just be nice to hear some objectivity and honesty. Vince is playing well and most of you were dead wrong about the guy. He lost his job due to injury and due to the fact that the team won 13 freaking games with Kerry Collins.

This type of garbage just outs some of us Texans fans as having no football acumen or knowledge at all. Some of us are just a bunch of losers full of jealousy and hatred. I can understand that but to try and make up excuses for why Vince wins when our own team has NEVER won a big game even once. Cmon now. Why don't we beat the guy once before we start piling on. I hope Vince never beats us again but to not give him his due and admit that a lot of people jumped the gun is just juvenile and petty. he wanted to come here but we wanted Carr more.....stupid move. period.

Everyone needs to grow up and realize that maybe Vince isn't a bad QB after all. Maybe in everyone's rush to bury his career and make a bunch of juvenile sausage jokes they forgot about his abilities and his leadership. I told a lot of you guys this day was coming and it came....and now that it has come some of us feel the need to make up a bunch of bogus reasons or spin on why Vince is winning now. Vince is winning because the Titans make plays. Vince is winning because he is a good young QB in a system that is suited to his strengths and has the benefits of top coaching and a great RB.

Everyone was so gungho to pat themselves and the Texans on the back about picking Mario and Carr over Vince but maybe that was a bit premature. Mario was chosen to help us beat the Colts....we can't even beat the Jags much less the Colts. Carr was a failure and most of the VY hatred comes from the same guys who made excuse after freaking excuse for Carr. Well that experiment lasted exactly one year and then we had to give up the farm to get Schaub. I love Schaub but it cost us dearly in both cap space and draft picks. Maybe Vince wouldn't have been such a bad pick after all. Maybe if people used their mind more and resorted to less hatred and vitrole we would have a more knowledgeable and realistic fanbase. Grow up.

I said it before Vince's comeback and I will say it again. Vince was the right pick for us in 2006 but once Carr was re-signed it was a mute point. But lets face it. Vince has done more in the NFL than Mario. He has made more an impact than Mario has and is more valuable than Mario is. Vince has helped win games for the Titans. Mario is a good player but has he done what we brought him in to do? No he hasn't. We are still Peyton's *****. Vince has had his share of problems but he would have given us a QB that can actually play well in close games and can finish games. I love Schaub and Mario but they have come up short. plain and simple.

I posted this in the Fire Shaub thread, but figured it should be in here, as well:

Vince Young loves his 'haters'

"Like I said last week, I love everybody," Young said, laughing. "I love my haters. I love fans who love me. I mean, I don't really focus on that. Everybody has their own opinion.

Then, Young stepped back for a second and said something he might not have said during his previous three seasons in the NFL.

"Sometimes they are right," he continued. "Sometimes, they help me focus and see that yeah, I really do need to get better at this thing or that."

I wasn't a 'pick VY' guy or a UT fan, but I cannot deny what he has matured into during his break the past year. Then he has to say something like this...guess the only reason not to like the guy is because he's a freakin' Titan.

Why? I sure wouldn't with current regime. Just a regime of mediocrity, excuses, and failures.

Houston boy, Texas roots. It's pretty simple to understand, especially in light of the fact that he came out a year early with hopes to be drafted by the franchise. Plus, he likes playing in his house! :hairpull:

I think we would have broke him, though. That's the way we roll with first round QBs. ;)

I think Mario Williams, KVB and Haynsworth would have been doing most of the breaking of him if you had taken Young.

Just curious (because I haven't been over to gotits.com lately), how are the VY haters v. VY lovers doing over there? I think they used to have more heated debates at times than we do here.

There are a lot of the "told you so" threads right now. The swingers are coming out in mass praising Young wanting all the doubters to bow down. Young praise is all over NFLN and ESPN so lots of threads with quotes.

Most of the threads are about CJ, MVP talk and trying to come up with a way for us to actually make the playoffs.

I prefer talking to battle hardened smack talkers about the team like BIP, childress and TB. Most of the stuff in the main forum I use for updates and things like that. Or talking on other teams boards. You get a better take on the team IMO. Not a bunch of fluff from over zealous fans.

Just out of curiosity, what do Titans/Vols fans think about facing Peyton Manning twice a year?

I used to think there wasn't a precedent for a college hero going to a pro rival until I remembered that Manning went to Tennessee.

lol, yep, and then everyone over here would be bitchin' about taking a college-hero like VY instead of the All Pro pass rusher in Williams.

I hate to say it, but as an NFL fan I have to prop VY and the Titans. Hearing that no team in NFL history has ever won 5 in a row after an 0-6 start is what is...curses all around, of course!

Unless the Texans draft Colt McCoy in the 3rd or 4th round this year, the lovely Texans fans in Austin won't see another game for a while.:hides:

That's about what I figured. Although some of the lover v. hater posts almost could've been moved to the smack forum. There were some that were fairly intense.

I'll tell you, there is no fluff here. Our peeps get it on in the main forum. We're battled hardened here, but not in a good way. :gun:

No love at all for Manning. To much time has past and he has beaten us way to many times for anyone to stay on that ship. I assume Young will be the same way around here in a couple seasons. The Nation Championship will get old and if Young keeps beating you guys the want for him on the team will fade.

I was an admitted hater and if you read some of the stuff I said in those threads about Young I was pretty brutal.

The fluff really started when the tomb died. We got in influx of about 1000 new posters that wanted it to be like the tomb. We even had to kill our rep system because it was being abused. There are defiantly some good knowledgeable posters on the board but you have to wade though 10 or more posts to find one. Most are full of just idiotic statements that are not based on anything other then blind love for Young or the team.

This board defiantly has good posters on it and is why I come on here a lot. You do have your fluffers but the thing I have noticed is how quick you all turn on the team. Your main board IMO is chicken littling and it seems to happen a lot. You guys are 5-6 just like us. Yeah you have had some bad few games but you win this week and we lose and you are back in the hunt again. I'm not sure if it is just the past seasons as Texans fans that cause that but after our second win our fans were talking playoff shots and winning out.

I was perusing when all of the TOMB folks came over. I may not have logged on but I definitely noticed a shift in the atmosphere over there. I agree, you have some knowledgable posters, but as you stated, you have to wade through some crap to get to the good stuff.

As far as the bolded, seven words: The Houston Oilers and Houston Sports generally. Were natural pessimists. It's in our blood. As far as the Titans turnaround. I called it on your very board, in the smack section no less. It was about the only time I got high fived. LMAO!!

I have to wonder if UofTennessee fans are nearly as rabid as UofTexas fans are around here (i.e. Texas, Houston, etc), because I honestly do not see any UofTexas fans ever letting up with their overwhelming mancrush of VY.

I was with Vinny at last week's game, and there was a guy there who owned season tickets but boasted about rooting for every Texans opponent because they passed on VY. It is a bizarre mindset and something that I will never comprehend, but, I'm not a college football fan so it's not something I should understand, I guess.

8 years of suck will do that to a fan base. Titans fans inherited a solid team on the upswing, not an expansion franchise with one of the worst expansion deals in NFL history. I really have to wonder how supportive Tennessee fans would be right now if they were experiencing 8 years of suck with an expansion team that has yet to post a winning record.

Like I've said in other threads, I'm a Houston Texans fan for life, but I'm developing a hate for the team I love. They keep coming up with new ways to lose, while your team finds positive NFL records to break like the one I mentioned above. The VY issue is just salt on a festering, infected wound.

Funny thing people do not bring up during that game is the half time screw up almost cost us the game. Young almost got sacked with 8 seconds left on the clock and ran around until the half was over. That field goal along with a Britt not fumbling and he become the goat again.

Also did anyone see the post game interview? Did anyone else want to buy a chiro from him at Disneyland or was it just me?

When did I ever say Young was a scrub for not beating the patriots his rookie year, or that he's not playing great this year? It's just going to take more than playing excellent for half a throw away season to convince me he's a franchise QB, or that we shoudl have taken him over Mario.

And it's hysterical how you make it seem like the Titans made the playoffs because of Young, talk about making stuff up. That's why when you bring up career records when saying he's had more of an impact on his team than Schaub is worthless, when they are in two completely different situations with different roles. And it's even more worthless when comparing a QB to a defensive end. You can believe that Young would have given us a better chance to make the playoffs, maybe you believe he would have outscored Manning as well. Probably believe in the toothfairy to. I think had we drafted Vince our defense would still had sucked, just like our running game, offensive line etc, and it probably would havebeen a waste of a few prime years for AJ. And the Titans possibly could have Mario on their line next to AH and KVB. :goodluck:

SH also forgot to mention that VY would have to be coached by Kubiak instead of Fisher...

Not to mention he wouldnt have Chris Johnson in the same backfield. I think that has more to do with his recent success than anything else.

Talking heads are saying that VY makes Johnson better, not the other way around. Go figure, especially when CJ is on pace to break Dickerson's season rushing record.

How do you figure? CJ was drafted late in the 1st. If he was on the Titans board and he was the 24th pick I still think we take him. Only 8 picks after him. White was ok but the Titans would have definatly needed another RB at the time.

I dunno man, he (CJ) torched us pretty good without VY in game 2. I think he had 190+ on us.

Both guys are helping each other but CJ was doing stuff before Vince was even playing so its obvious that CJ is a player with or without Vince. I think Vince is definitely helped by another breakaway threat in the running game but I don't think they have been utilized as a tandem as much as it could be. That option play they had was nearly unstoppable even when you knew it was coming. If they start employing that along with the 'wildcat' draw read play that is a VY staple, then it could get ugly for opposing defenses. You can't run it every play or you are in danger of getting one of those guys killed, but I definitely think its a great wrinkle to show especially early downs

I agree with you, man. I think CJ is one of the top two RBs in the league right now with Peterson. He would kick ass on any team.

I just find it funny that a RB who is on pace to break the single season rushing record is being sort of downplayed in the overwhelming mancrush for VY. It's goofy, but the again, the media's Sausage-festival right now is all the rage. Common sense is not applicable.

You know, I would have to put CJ well ahead of Peterson right now.

Yards: CJ 1,396 - AD 1,084 = CJ +200
Rec: CJ 294 - AD 233 = CJ +60
TD's: CJ 9 - AD 12 = AD +3

** Fumbles lost: CJ 1 - AD 5 = CJ -4

At the end of the day though, I would be happy with either, though ;)

I agree. It's actually kind of a shame that CJ is being somewhat overshadowed, because he is having one of those "special" seasons.

Reasons?

1) Minnesota 10-1, Tennessee 5-6

2) Brett Favre. Yeah VY gets press, but its Brett Favre.

what the hell happened to him?

injury?

at first sight, looks like crying and sucking his thumb

seriously though... did he take a hard shot?

He was rolling out toward the sidelines and got hit on the knee as he threw the ball. The pass ended up being intercepted, Vince jumped up and put a hit on the guy that intercepted the ball.

He was on the bench due to the turnover, however he started grimacing in pain while on the bench. I don't think he realized he was hurt until he got to the bench.

oh thanks .. I didn't hear much on it on the highlights (obviously missed it)

I was streaming the game on my laptop while watching the Texans on the TV. VY didn't look bad today, the Titans were just outmatched.
