2009 NFL Draft Thread

He has amazing closing speed and packs a punch. Another guy who can play not many know about is Florida Atlantic LB Frantz Joseph.

I have been all over Joseph and I think he is an outstanding late round pick (he should go in rounds 3-4 IMO). He has a good attitude and a great character guy who can play MLB and hits like a ton of bricks. Another LB I like is Tyrone McKenzie from USF...Joseph and McKenzie would make an awesome combo.

Barwin will do way better than the 2nd round guys we got in 2007 and 2008.

Oh, that's right...we didn't have a freaking 2nd round pick for the past two years.

Just keepin' it real: Let's be glad we had a 2nd round pick today.

I am on board with Joseph, as well.

I bet he doesn't make it to us tomorrow, though. Even if he did, are we really going to LB again? Prolly not.

But the guy IS a very good LB, IMO.

Joseph's best fit may be as an ILB in a 30 front. Some question his coverage skills, but from what I've seen they look adequate. Can't see Houston taking him. I beleive he had a private workout with Miami. When its all said and done he may be the best ILB that comes outta this draft.

oh you mean that he is a tremendous athelete could play LB or a DE in pass rushing situations..heard it...we call him ...Jason Babin

Oh ok, it's clear now. He's a white boy that can play some defensive end and lb. Yep, just like Babin. I mean exactly.

Your analysis is terrible. And when you say we are you speaking for you and the voice in your head? Or are there other people with you that make rushed observations? A little too early to be downing a guy, when you haven't even seen the dude play. Don't you think?

I don't know if its me but I've noticed that after a pick is made and the ESPN crew or NFL Network crew give an immpression of disgust everyone freaks out, the Broncos fans are doing that and some Texans fans as well.

We did that when Duane Brown was chosen and now I'm sure people agree with the pick now that they've seen him play. Give these guys some time, express your anger but don't write them off as busts....YET!

Geez, watch some highlights of barwin or read some of what the scouts say. I thought he would go early in the second and we got him mid second. I remember when they played OU this year he was a huge standout on defense. And don't give me this "he's a project" comment. A football player is a football player. Athleticism, coachability and work ethic translates on the field.

I really like the Barwin pick. I bet someone like Belichick is pissed because he traded back and missed on him.

For me, the only reason to be upset is that Jenkins, Chung and Delmas were gone before we had the chance to pick em.

BTW, draft grades are completely useless. I have never seen an accurate grade and they are deceptive. Think about what some of these franchises had to give up to get there players.

Yeah belicchek is pissed with the two secondary players he got...when we got a player who at best is a reserve. Depth is good but saftey is an immediate concern. I feel like the Texans collect D-lineman like the Bucs collected qbs under gruden. I think if we wanted a tweener mayber we should have used a later pick. The guy played one year on defense..which is fine but I believe he would have been there in the 3rd round. I think this was a reach. Outside of Mario Williams what DE have the Texans drafted or signed worked out.

I can think of one Tim Bulman.....Amobi had a good rookie year but did not produce last year.
Call it Jason Babin syndrome.....I just think there are more pressing needs.

I think you're being too hard on Barwin.
I agree it would have been nice to grab some secondary help but what few 1st-rd-quality DB studs there were in this class were pretty much gone by #46.

And any guy who can switch to DE and still produce 12 sacks and 17 tackles for loss has got to have brains and talent. As "rolls of the dice" go, this one wasn't much of a gamble... especially since you know this guy will do whatever the coaches ask. He showed that in college.

you're not grumpy because the Spurs are going down in flames are you?

I really like the new format for the draft. I thought it moved quickly and smoothly for the most part.

I am not against the guy... I really hope he contributes...I question the round in which this position was addressed.
Is there another Bennett out there? or another Slaton???? I really hope so because this draft could cost us and maybe cost some coaches their jobs.
Alot is riding on tomorrow....I may not be the only dissatisfired fan.

I will be grumpy if that happens and Texans and stros dont start winning...its been a while since all 3 of my teams sucked.

How many DE's has this front office drafted? Hmmm... let's see... is it.. one? Stop judging this FO for the previous FO's FU's.

We had 25 sacks last year. This addresses a big need. This is a need we've all been talking about. Both Cushing and Barwin address the pass rush.

And there is no way Barwin would have been there at our next pick. NFL Draft Scout had him rated 38, Scout.com rated him 42, and SI.com had him rated 33. He was in several mocks; he went 34 in the last Walter Football mock I saw and he went 34 in the Texan's Talk mock. He was not an unknown guy and this was not a reach.

I like what the Lions are doing. They traded down and now have multiple picks in both the third and fourth rounds.

Exactly, and they're getting those picks in value rounds. They can use their third rounders to address their defensive deficiencies.

Let me rephrase:

I want

1)Andre Brown
2)Rashad Jennings
3) Kentucky Grilled Chicken

Sorry, those commercials for it are starving me.

yeah i feel we can get a good rb in the 4th. S would be my preference here. id be happy with either though
