Florida State Pro Day

Hall of Fame
Well I will have official times on here posted later but here are some unofficial 40 times and various other workout results:

DE Neefy Moffett - unofficial 4.70

S Roger Williams (was a senior the year before this past season) - unofficial 4.8

CB Michael Ray Garvin - unofficial times of 4.22 and 4.29. I wouldn't be surprised if these times are close because Garvin is an All-American track star. They switched directions so the 4.22 might be with the wind and 4.29 might be against it. From what I can tell when I walk outside there isn't much wind though. This guy was the best kick returner per return last year in the NCAA. Very fast.

WR De'Cody Fagg (was a senior the year before this past season but had a severe injury going into the combine last year) - unofficial 4.60

WR Greg Carr - unofficial 4.56

CB Tony Carter - unofficial 4.28, benched 17 times, also had a 39" vertical jump. 4 year starter at corner.

DT Paul Griffin - unofficial 4.97

S/LB Kenny Ingram (big 6'6 alternate who made some big plays but will probably go undrafted) - unofficial 4.56

MLB Derek Nicholson - unofficial 4.79 (This really hurts Derek. He was a good player here but he isn't really all that big and it looks like he didn't do too well in the 40.)

QB Xavier Lee (Big waste of talent who decided to leave early rather than switch to TE. I guess he still wants into the NFL) - unofficial 4.8

WLB Toddrick Verdell (safety moved to WLB. Played well in his only season last season.) - unofficial 4.64

S Roosevelt Lawson - unofficial 4.47. He was a backup his whole career at FSU, will probably go undrafted.

RB Antone Smith - unofficial 4.26. Finally showed why he was a 5 star recruit last year. He is very fast, could be a return guy in the NFL similiar to Leon Washington with less of an ability to play runningback than Leon.

Those not running: DE Everette Brown, K/P Graham Gano, SS Darius McClure.

The players I have bolded are players I think will be drafted.

These are all on a turf field from what I understand. It just started and stopped raining causing the workouts to stop and then start back up so it may be awhile before we get official times.

Some of you may say some of these times are too fast but I disagree. We had alot of speed last year. Guys like Garvin, Smith, and Carter are all small guys and show their speed when they play.

He is suspect in coverage. He played spot duty during his time at FSU. Isn't real instinctive as a corner, but as a kick returner he is very good. He gets going very quickly.

Was he just a KR or PR too? Carter's Numbers aren't bad either but small at 5'9" and 166 at listed on draft countdown. Does have elite speed to keep up with guys though. What round is he projected?

He did not return a punt this past season. Tony Carter and Bert Reed returned punts. Carter did have a PR touchdown and like Garvin is very good with the ball in his hands. I can't remember how many INTs Carter has returned for TDs but it's something like 4, it could be even higher.

Here are Garvin's KR stats:

2008:

22 returns, 662 yards, 30.1 YPR, 1 TD, Long of 94 yards.

2007:

35 returns, 697 yards, 19.9 YPR, 0 TDs, Long of 52 yards.

2006:

16 returns, 362 yards, 22.6 YPR, 0 TDs, Long of 47 yards.

I can't ever remember Garvin returning a punt in all his years at FSU. Perhaps they worked on it with him in practice and he just dropped the ball too many times? That's pure speculation by me.

You could tell Garvin was a track guy for most of his time at FSU. He just didn't look like a football player. However, this past year he was fantastic returning kicks. It looked more natural. During the Florida game he returned nearly every kick to around the 50 yard line or farther.

Regarding Tony Carter, I would project him in the 4th maybe 5th round area. He has a tendency to be a little too aggressive at times going for the interception. There have been times when he as given up TDs that I think he could have easily knocked the ball down rather than going for a interception. However, there are times when he has made fantastic plays on defense picking the ball off and then returning it for a TD in key situations. I guess that's what you get in a guy that started all 4 years, alot of good and bad memories. I like Tony Carter, and I think he would be a 2nd rounder if he wasn't so small. As you pointed out not only is he 5'9 but he is around 170 lbs.

WOW! I cant wait to see the official time. That kind of speed cant be ignored.

I'm really not a big fan of Smith. He simply could not run between the tackles his first 3 years at FSU. His senior year he improved and actually had very good production with 15 TDs, but still struggled to run between the tackles. He has always had great speed at his size 5'8 (probably more like 5'7) 190.

You can find ways to use that kind of speed. If the player has some ability.

So these are the last numbers I am going to get.
