Ryan Palmer - CB - Texas

Errant Hothy

Hypermediocrity
http://www.statesman.com/blogs/cont...bohls/entries/2009/03/05/palmer_in_texan.html

the Houston Texans are very high on Longhorn cornerback Ryan Palmer.

Even though he is barely taller than 5-foot-8, the Texans love his speed and competitiveness. Of course, it may not mean a thing for the NFL Draft next month.

But if Palmer does get drafted and makes a team, he would continue Longhorn secondary coach Duane Akina’s impressive streak. Since Akina arrived in 2001, all eight of his starting cornerbacks have played in the NFL, and seven of them are still active

Really? Is Palmer really an NFL quality CB?

I find this really odd, even if he is targeted with a late round pick.

If we got him in the later rounds I wouldn't be mad about it, but I'll admit that I don't see Palmer being an NFL starter ever for anyone. He was pretty good in college but nothing special. I'm a little surprised by this.

He has the heart and desire to be a special teams guy in the NFL, but I just don't think he has the talent to be anything more than that.

Someone may take him in the 6th or 7th just because of Akina's track record on developing these guys, but whether he is drafted or not, I think someone will pick him up and he will make a team as a special teams guy.

Well I do recall Kubiak keeping in touch with many players who they knew would not be drafted or had a high chance of not being drafted. Ramonce Taylor was one of those guys. They've done pretty good in the past at getting a couple of undrafted free agents. Before injury Chris Taylor was on track to being the man here. That may be what they have in mind for this guy.

I know and they were still the #1 defense in their conference. Just think how much better they will be when they don't have all freshman back there.

Missed a perfect season by one play. Must have been doing something right.

Excellent coaching can do alot with very little. As Texans fans we tend to over look that because our coaches on defense have done very little with alot.

Funny. I've been used to hearing exactly the opposite about Texas coaching. That nobody does less with more.

Muschamp is a great coach, no question. But I think he's got some talent to work with.
