Ravens @ Titans

That had to be the worst loss in their history. Like someone else mentioned it is because they had the best record in the NFL and they would have been favored over anyone else left standing.

The Houston Oilers were never in that situation. Sure we all had our hopes, however there was always a team remaining that would have been favored over us (Steelers, etc). Also the Houston Oilers never had homefield throughout.

This was truly their best shot at winning it all. This Super Bowl is totally up for grabs now. All the top seeds are gone except the Steelers and they are very beatable.

Wouldn't it be crazy if the Cardinals won the Super Bowl?

That's it, they were 13-3, top seed, and lost to Baltimore at home before Baltimore won the Super Bowl...and beat Kerry Collins along the way.

Yep. Kerry Collins stunk it up in the Super Bowl for the Giants. I will be rooting for the Ravens again next week. Flacco went Delaware where I went to school.

Either way if the Eagles beat the Cardinals they are going to play a geographic rival in the Super Bowl, hopefully it will be Baltimore.

Hey Titans players:

THAT'S why you don't stomp on the yellow Terrible Towel.

You didn't win CRAP by beating the Steelers. The Steelers won their playoff game, you lost yours. And now the Steelers are still at home for the AFC Championship game.

Titans fans:

Time to get back out on the highways and resume your jobs as roadkill collection agents.

Bwaaa-ha-hah! :spit:

Ray Lewis owns the tities....Quite possibly the best part of last weekends games was seeing those chumps go down.

It'll also be sweet as they watch Fat Albert take the money b/c bud's too cheap to pay him what he deserves.......or they refuse to pay Collins the money he wants & have to start sausage boy next year & watch him bring the team down with his garbage passing.

I disagree because there is no way the Titans would go 4-0 on the season against the Ravens and the Steelers, home field or not. They were either gonna lose in the divisional round or they were gonna get their mud pushed in by a very motivated and balanced Stillers team.

Obviously their best chance to win it all was when they were one yard away, but I still think that the 93-94 season was the Other Big One That Got Away. For the first time in franchise history the Oilers had a first round playoff bye and a home game in the divisional round only to blow it to the underdog KC Chiefs. The Oilers hadn't lost since week six or so and were the hottest team in the NFL. They finally had a stout defense to match the offense and they still managed to choke it away in the playoffs.

If they'd won that one I think they would've exorcised the Buffalo demons and we would've had an I-45 Super Bowl.

Actually, the '93 Oilers finished 12-4, and had the #1 seed in the AFC playoffs. That was the year they brought in Buddy Ryan as the DC in response to the prior seasons 35-3 debacle. They went into the playoffs on an 11 game winning streak, and they lost their first playoff game (divisional round) to the Joe Montana led Chiefs. Think ball being spiked at Buddy Ryan banner after K.C. TD.

So yes, what happened on Saturday is simply deja vu all over again for the 4th or 5th time.

Actually they had the #2 seed. Buffalo was 12-4 and beat the Oilers earlier in week 6, which happened to be their last loss before losing in the playoffs.

Yes, But the cowboys were still the heavy favorite to win it all that year, and they did. They finished 12-4 but without Emmitt for some games at the begining of the season because of a hold out situation. That was a great team. And also, Buffalo was the #1 seed that year, so Houston still had to get by a very good Buffalo team in Buffalo. Not an easy task. There is no one left in these playoffs that you could consider a dominant great team. The Steelers are good but their offense is average at best. And the the Eagles and cardinals, well there still standing but are nothing special. I am not saying that the Titans were a for sure win but man it did look good for them if they would have won.

And also, the Ravens were outplayed by the Titans. It was just those fumbles that did them in. And as I remember, Montana just pretty much outplayed Moon and the Oilers just kinda lost because they got outplayed.

An Eagle/Steeler SB would certainly set the State of Penn on fire!! Man, those fans could get pretty rowdy!! Might be a fun game to watch though. No telling what might get thrown onto the field!

Well, 48 hours later, I'm still numb, and angry. Titans pissed the game away, pure and simple.

I pondered this question and have this to say...

As good a season as this was, no one on the planet had considered the Titans a Super Bowl contender, so the pain, while nasty, is bearable.

2000 was a hell of a lot worse. The Titans had already been appointed NFL Champs that year, coming off their Super Bowl appearance, having the best record and homefield. That game was a complete and total shock. No one, I mean NO ONE, thought they were losing that game.

This one? I knew a ton of fans, myself included, that wanted no part of the Ravens, knowing it would be a dogfight.

Also, I was at Rich stadium for 35-3. Alltime low for the franchise and me as a fan of any team. You cannot imagine how bad it was to sit in that stadium on a cold crummy day and watch that, then get it bad from the dregs of Western NY as you left the stadium, already dry heaving.

I would also say the 1993 team and '91 teams had higher expectations and greater hurt after the respective playoff losses.

The redeeming thing for me now that I've caught my breath is knowing minus QB and Haynesworth, the club has a terrific future. Just get a frigging playmaker at WR and tinker with the depth and the team is a contender for the next few years. I'm certain with Collins behind center next year and this nucleus it's a damn good team, and likely gonna remember the bitter taste of the end of the season this year. I sure as hell hope so.

As long as Jeff Fisher is the coach of the Titans they'll be a good team. The turnovers killed them yesterday.

And Baltimore seems to have the team of destiny fairy on their shoulder pads this year. They'll be hard for the Steelers to beat I think.

I actually think the Ravens have little left after the Titan game. I saw 6 or 7 guys get treated or didn't return to the game. (Suggs will be doubtful) The Steelers are the opposite, now as healthy as they've been in weeks.

The second Crumpler lost the ball was the first time I screamed that they were going to lose the game. It hit me right there. In the groin. Hard.

We'll see...I've just had this funny feeling about the Ravens since they played the Cowboys..that they were having this charmed season. Maybe it's indigestion!

Titans gave the Ravens every opportunity to win that game. And that's what they did. Fumbles, missed field goals, penalities, interception.

I think you are right. The Titans/Ravens game was brutal. It reminded me of some of the old Steeler/Oilers games from the 70's. But yeah I think the Ravens came out of that game just beat up and a healthy Pittsburgh is waiting for them at home. Not good. I don't think te Titans would beat the Steelers either had they won that game for the same reason. Those 2 teams just had an all out war. Really good game to watch.

he's being questioned by many on the Titans board, and rightfully so. Two consecutive playoff games with a total of what...20 points between them both?

I like Fisher, but his recent teams have really struggled offensively in the playoffs.

The Chris Johnson pick and the way he successfully used him has me more on board with Fisher than last year. Notice how Johnson just torched the Ravens in the 1st half before he got hurt?

I'm convinced Fisher is going to go after Harvin or a playmaker WR in UFA. I think he finally gets it now.

Fisher needs a QB, and the Titans would OWN. Do you want your team heading into the next season with Kerry Collins and Vince Young? Collins played a Tommy Maddox-type role this season. What's he going to do for an encore next season?

If they got what they got...out of Kerry Collins...think what happens if they had a good QB. They had size and talent at TE. They had a great 1-2 punch at RB. They had a great o-line and d-line. Kicker was solid. Coaching was solid except for a few isolated incidents.

Bud screwed the Titans when he drafted VY. Now there's a lot of pride tied up in that pick. You can't go QB in the first round because it admits that VY was a mistake. So you gotta' gamble on a guy later on...to make it look like its just depth and nothing too seriously-minded for the immediate future.

The VY pick was disastrous. 50% based on his talent, possible merchandising revenue, and his on-field potential, and 50% based on Bud's desire to stick it to Houston.

IF you got a receiver, and had to stick with VY and Collins...you need a big possession-type receiver. A guy who can run the quick slant or the curl and get you those clutch passes when it really counts.

Titans either pay Young $13 mil. next season or pay $7 mil. to cut him. He's definitely not worth $13 mil if you ask me.

But you know what...that was a good marketing move for two seasons.

Got any suggestions on who they can get?

Here are the UFAs
Kurt Warner, UFA, Arizona Cardinals
Kerry Collins, UFA, Tennessee Titans
Matt Cassel, UFA, New England Patriots (Rumor he will be franchised)
Jeff Garcia, UFA, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Rex Grossman, UFA, Chicago Bears
Kyle Boller, UFA, Baltimore Ravens
Charlie Batch, UFA, Pittsburgh Steelers
J.P. Losman, UFA, Buffalo Bills
Patrick Ramsey, UFA, Denver Broncos

So really, it's Warner, Collins or Garcia for the caretaker role. There is no chance in hell that the Titans can get any of the rumored big 1st rounders in this year's draft, so right now, in a sense, they're kinda stuck. Based on Fisher's comments about VY (below), I suspect if he wants to turf VY, he will.

(On what he needs to see from Vince Young this offseason)

We expect 100 percent commitment from Vince and will accept nothing less than that.

To me, that sounds pretty direct, as if he's saying to VY - try me. Just try me.

Don't be too sure on the club not admitting a mistake and moving on. They wasted a 2nd rounder on Chris Henry then the next year took Johnson. They got that mulligan right.

man, I would throw some serious money at Kurt Warner... He would be perfect for them for a year or two.

I'm sorry but according to most of the population of Texas, it was 100% based on the fact that Vince Young was a WINNER. Or maybe it was "a weiner." Which is it, I don't remember now ...

Remember, that Kansas City playoff loss was the last meaningful game in Houston Oiler history. We were up in the fourth quarter and bam...Warren Moon fumbles, the Chiefs score to take the lead a few plays later and that's all she wrote. It didn't hurt as much as Buffalo...which isn't to say it didn't hurt alot, but it might have been the most devastating loss in franchise history. Warren Moon left that offseason and we went 2-14 the next year...Pardee was fired and Fisher replaced him in week 12. The next preseason the Oilers just happen to be playing the Redskins in Tennessee where Bud meets the Nashville Mayor....and the rest is history. Had the Oilers beaten the Chiefs and made it to the Super Bowl that year, win or lose, I think we would be sitting here talking about another Houston Oilers playoff choke.

The Titans should try to resign Collins.

I don't think anybody saw them as going far this last season BEFORE the season started. They certainly weren't considered one of the top AFC teams on this board.

I would maybe think about cutting those VY ties if I were them as well. Seems like that just didn't work out.

Umm I think Vinny and others acknowledged that they might win the AFC South this year.

I'm not going post to post just to prove a point...good for Vinny. He knows his football.

I don't think it's a stretch to say most people think the Colts would win the division or the Jags. But kudos to those that knew the Titans would be good. Just regular season good though...

I think they give VY another year. Chris Henry didn't win an NCAA title, he didn't get picked number 3 overall, and he wasn't a guy you could market and sell stuff. The VY pick still has a lot of emotional ties with Bud Adams.

To me, from the comment you gave from Fisher, it sounds like all VY has to say is "Yeah, I'm in" and he's the QB again. And he'll meltdown, again, and he'll be somewhere in Canada before anybody can call the cops about him being missing.

They ought to draft a QB in the first round, even if the QB was pegged as a 2nd rounder. Just get one, as long as he has a lot of heart. You don't want any of the senior citizen UFAs. You want to send your team a signal that you know a captain in the huddle is all that's needed to right the ship.

I can't believe I'm actually thinking of ways to help the Titans. What the hell is going on inside my brain?!?! Get it out. GET IT OUT! AAHGHGHHH!

they could cut ties with vy as they have Chris Simms on the bench...assuming Vodka Collins is resigned, draft a qb to sit behind those two.

everybody's a winner! that team becomes more solid at that position, and vy can go back to Austin to continue that sterling education he is on the verge of completing.

Wow, disgusting.

Two resones why the Titans lost last weekend.
1. CJ did not return.
2. Turnovers killed them. P.S. Kerry had a good game and I think that he has a couple more seasons left in tank but not too many though.

One reason why the Titans lost last weekend.

1. Bud Adams sucks and the gods are against them.
