WAS WITTEN WERDERS SOURCE?
Posted by Mike Florio on December 12, 2008, 5:09 p.m.
As it turns out, Terrell Owens suspicions regarding teammate Jason Witten might have been on the mark.
The talk in the Cowboys locker room is that Witten was one of the sources for Ed Werders recent ESPN item, which has sparked a firestorm within the organization.
Per a league source, center Andre Gurode and receiver Roy Williams called out Witten in a team meeting regarding their belief that he has been talking out of school to Werder, accusing Witten and/or his agent of feeding the information to Werder as the song Back Stabbers played in the background.
According to our source (and it pains us to type this), Owens isnt as bad as hes made out to be in the media (i.e., by ESPN).
Ed Werder didnt make anything up, the source said. Witten or his agent gave the story.
And heres where it gets really interesting. Wittens agent is Jimmy Sexton. And Sexton represents you guessed it former Cowboys coach Bill Parcells.
Parcells wanted no part of Owens, and presumably Parcells would love nothing more than to see the Cowboys fail to make the playoffs in the same year that Parcells is in the process of propelling the previously 1-15 Fins toward the postseason.
Were not saying that Tuna has his finger in this one, after all hes not the kind of guy whod stick his nose in business that doesnt pertain to him. Were just pointing out the straight line from Witten to Sexton to Parcells, who by the way drafted Witten in 2003, the same year that Parcells signed Romo as an undrafted free agent.

Michael Irvin said on his Dallas ESPN show today that he was told by TO that Jason Garrett is the one that called the receivers into his office..not the other way around as the press is reporting. They can't even get that straight.
The team has had a meeting and aired it all out and has been instructed by Wade not to speak to the media unless it involves the game.
I think that's maybe the smartest thing Wade has done next to taking over the defensive play calling.
There are 20 different versions to stories...they all spin out of control by the time we read them..he said this, no he said that, no he did that, no he didnt'...at this point it's old and boring.
Personally I don't care who catches passes. Just so they get caught. And they could all do a better job of that.
Heck, Terrence Newman is calling out the coaches about accountability and he gets burned last week to turn around the game. But I do think he has a point that the coaches are just hiding and deflecting. Then I just read how Witten was Ed Werder's source according to some. It is a madhouse. You know what is funny is that people are saying that TO may not be the bad guy..maybe...but the fact remains that this has happened on EVERY team he has played on and the lockerroom always takes sides. His somehow innocuous comments about just wanting to win seem to take on a life of their own. It is part media but it starts with TO.
Are we sure it's not the Cowboys screwing up things for TO, and not TO screwing up things for the Cowboys? I mean....it is the Cowboys; but, then, it is TO.
I bet Jessica gets involved.![]()
I don't believe that about Witten but he and Tony are very good friends and hang together off the field.
Remember the Mexican vacation that Tony took last year when he was tarred and feathered for doing that before a playoff game...well Witten was there only he didn't get the same treatment about it.
Agree. They are close. Troy trusted Novachek too. For all his faults, did Irvin cry about getting the ball?
I don't remember that but I do remember that undisputedly Michael was the team leader. He was the one on the sidelines giving the pep talks and it was the same in the locker room and he practiced hard...I do remember Harper complaining about not getting the ball thrown to him. Troy wasn't vocal on the sidelines at all.

While the Dallas Cowboys were trying to downplay a possible rift between Terrell Owens and Jason Witten, the two nearly came to blows on Friday, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram first reported Saturday.
ESPN's Chris Mortensen, according to team sources, confirmed an incident occurred at the Cowboys training facility when Witten tried to engage Owens in a conversation about a pass route. Owens told Witten to stay away from him and called him a name. The two exchanged words before being separated.
Exactly..I miss guys that wouldn't put up with this crap. I'm sorry and I know people keep making excuses for him but as everyone can see you have a lockerroom divided and guys pissed. TO brought it to Philly and SF. This isn't a misunderstanding wherever he goes. He is an attention ho that needs attention constantly. Of course Stephen A Smith thinks TO is just an innocent guy..I think he has been an ardent supporter since day 1Randy White stuffed Thomas Henderson in a locker once...too bad Randy isn't in the locker room now.
Why don't they just let Witten and Owens settle it themselves.
Put them in a room and let Wade referee.
TO would probably shut his mouth if they let Witten beat the snot out of him.

Thank god we don't have baby TO on our team. We have AJ, KW, OD, DA, AD, JJ.... thank god we don't have TO.
You're a professional football player and you're telling the media that you think your quarterback and your tight end are having secret meetings without you where they draw up plays. Hahahahahahaha!
What a *****, are you serious? Dallas does not deserve what TO is about to do to them, no one does. However, if you hate the cowgirls please enjoy the enforced implosion, as this is like a supernova and happens once every 50 years or so. I can't get over what a whiny baby he is. I wish i could meet him in person just so i could slap him in the face, then tell him he had 30 million reasons for me not to do that. Poor Romo, poor Witten, poor Barber.. this is just pathetic.

I'm not one to normally defend T.O., but I'm going to have to here. HE DID NOT GO TO THE MEDIA! He had a PRIVATE meeting with the offensive coordinator and it got LEAKED OUT to the media. For once T.O. was not trying to be dramatic and cry to the media like he has in the past. He wanted this little fiasco to be behind closed doors.
I don't think he is going to ruin the Cowboys. He is just trying his hardest to make the team BETTER. But if you think I am a T.O. fanboy, I'll just put it to rest right here by saying I would not want him playing on the Texans.
Maybe it's just me, but after listening to Wade Phillips's comments on the whole incident it seems like he doesn't really give a damn anymore. He sounds like a man who realizes he's probably gone after the season

In the postgame interview, TO calls out Ed Werder for "sensationalizing"(sp) the argument between Witten and himself...
We don't know for sure whether Brad Johnson was the infamous "snitch" at Valley Ranch last season.
ESPN's Ed Werder, one of the best reporters covering the NFL, isn't going to reveal his anonymous sources. But the NFL Network's Warren Sapp let the world know that his Super Bowl teammate had badmouthed T.O.
The NFL Network, apparently desperate to fill air time the week after the draft, is showing behind-the-scenes footage of its pregame prep work. That included an episode focused on the week leading up to the Ravens-Cowboys game, which came on the heels of the Tony Romo/T.O./Jason Witten pass-triangle drama.
Noted T.O. apologist Deion Sanders tried to dismiss the story, but Sapp wouldn't let that happen. Deion mentioned that he knows "20 dudes" on the Cowboys, so he was sure he had the story straight.
"So Brad Johnson ain't gonna give me the legits?" Sapp replied, as you can see from the fine YouTube work by blog buddy DCFanatic.
After Deion mumbled something dismissive about Johnson, Sapp added, "Brad (is) right there, dog. Right on ground level."
Old news follow up.
Just saw this...was Brad Johnson the leak?Video from NFL Netwoek seems to think Sapp heard info from him.(Video in link)

And boy I'll tell you every time I see Deion Sanders on tv he always validates what a total dumbass he is and has always been. I swear him and Michael Irvin had to have been separated at birth.
Deion had a "reality show" last season. I watched it. In horror.
This guy has no right to be portraying himself as a great role model for younger athletes. I mean... seriously. The guy is almost amoral himself.
You are so right. He is so freaking immature and the biggest attention hound of all time. The guy is such a freaking pest for the cameras and the spot light. Now days any time there is a great young athlete either on the Cowboys or the U or somewhere like that he tries to somehow get in the guy's life and act like he's some mentor or something just so he can steal the kid's spot light and take some sort of credit for the guy's success or something.
He is easily the last person that should be mentoring any young athletes about anything. You know who the last person was that Deion mentored? Pac Man Jones. That should be all I have to say on the subject.
Sounds like Hate.
Deion has mentored dozens of young athletes, if you ever watch his show, Prime U, you'll see what he teaches them, and how he prepares them for the NFL.
Prime U is a good show.
Deione is doing a good job.
Thanks for posting that Frog. Interesting and it makes a lot of sense. I always knew it had to be a person on the offense that worked with Romo and TO a lot to have been the un named source. I always thought it was Witten though, but I could see why Brad felt compelled to do that and he also did the right thing.

Why would you think it was Jason? He said last year he didn't have a thing to do with all that mess. Just asking. Because he and Tony are good friends?
I'm under the impression, that it never happened. That some media schmuck got tired of waiting for T.O. to do something, and decided to make some news.
Oh yeah, the media really needs to make up something for TO.
Yea I'm with you. Deion is an ok guy. I don't like him much on TV but then again I don't have to. I can change the channel.
Sounds like Hate.
