Duke Robinson, OG/LT, Oklahoma

Duke Robinson is a senior OL from OU listed on the Oklahoma website as 6'5 335 lb. He played a little LT at OU his freshman year, but played mostly OG in those 10 games and has since been at OG. He has exceptional footwork, begging the question with some scouts as to wether he can play LT in the NFL similar to what Brandon Albert did last year. Now, last year I was adamant about Albert being a better option at OG, but Robinson isn't quite as athletic in space as Albert was, he was just a freak, but Robinson has substantially more girth about him. Robinson also has a distinctive edge compared to Albert when it comes to pass-protection. Duke also is one of the meanest players I've seen at the collegiate level and consistently finishes his blocks. So, while some will suggest that he moves to LT as an "experiment/project" I tell those people to eff off. Duke Robinson is as close to an All-Pro lock as I can tell you about with a prospect. Duke Robinson has top 15 talent at OG. He is that scary good. He comes from a great program built upon success and that has a great track record with producing linemen for the NFL.

Notice on the first play how he mirrors the defender until he passes him to the LT and then picks up the second defender and just stands him up. At the 0:13 mark, notice that blur at the LOS? That is Robinson destroying the DT and putting him on the ground in about 1.5 seconds. Watch at the 0:28 mark as Robinson puts his man on the ground. Please turn your attention to the 0:36 mark and watch him stand up his man and dominate him safely away from the QB. Then watch at the 0:49 mark as he drives his man across the field and puts him on the ground to finish his block. The second half of the video is about Loadholt, their LT.

I just salivate thinking about his athletic ability and potential in our system. You want to hide that mistake from last year? Maybe establish our running game? Or how about subduing any DT in the league...say for instance the Titans and the Jag's DTs? This is the guy.

No. He doesn't fit the scheme. Light quick o-lineman. the only reason Pitts is still here is he lost the weight.

You haven't watched him then have you? Spencer would have been an ideal OG for our system. Think of Duke Robinson as Charles Spencer at his natural position, but with twice the talent. You are simply stereotyping a system. Gibbs made ALL of the linemen lose weight, not just Pitts. Watch the clip and watch how Robinson moves and is able to clear not only his first zone but the man who WAS in that zone before he moves on and clears that next zone. He blows people up and puts them on the ground; I don't care what system you run, that will work for it.

After looking at it he's pretty impressive actually. I liked what I saw when he clears an area he means it. Good footwork. What round are you projecting him?

He is a top 15-top 10....OVERALL talent. He is first round material as an OG, and if some team wants him at OT, he is still 1st round material.

I've been watching OU football back befor your daddy got the gleam in his eye for your moma. Now they may pull another Spencer ...they may fire everyone and clean house....as long as Gibbs and Kubes are working this thing...they're not double dipping positions in the first round of back to back drafts. Not going to do it. I don't care how good he is. The only way I could see this kind of scenario play out is if Erick or Brown wrecks something that's going to take eighteen months to heal.

Well, I doubt you've been doing that since my parents both have more than a decade on you as it is. Why would you say they won't "double-dip"? Gibbs has been here for one draft, only one. Last year he was given his pick if we are to believe what we are told. OG isn't the same as OT either, but why are you so positive they absolutely won't go OL in the first then? If you've got some sort of gypsy powers, that would explain a lot more than just this prediction.

Robinson would be a significant upgrade. It's hard to argue that the Texans don't need any help on the o-line.

Brown--Pitts--Myers--Robinson--Winston

Brown--Pitts--Antoine Caldwell Alabama --Robinson--Winston

He might fall to the 3rd.
Strengths: Caldwell is extremely athletic for a center. Has very good feet. He can pull and get to the second level effectively. Comes out of the snap smooth and efficiently and gets into good initial position. Sets up quickly in pass protection and extends his arms well. Caldwell is a smart player who can make the line calls and get his linemates on the same page. He has the frame to get bigger and stronger as he matures as a football player.

Weaknesses: Caldwell’s most glaring weakness is his lack of bulk and strength. Caldwell can get bigger and stronger and a professional weight program should help in that area. While he’s really athletic, Caldwell will rely on his athleticism too much and allow his technique to get sloppy. He has not improved at the rate most thought he would when he was younger so it raises questions about his ceiling and his work-ethic.

Overall: Antoine Caldwell has gotten off to a very good start in 2008. The Alabama line has been dominant and he’s been a huge part of that. If Caldwell can improve his bulk and strength he could become a top tier NFL center. As it stands now, Caldwell is in the second level of draft eligible centers. Also, Caldwell will have to work on being more consistent in his form and technique to become a top player. He does have the naturally ability and mental aptitude to do so.

I like the way Robinson passes the player he is blocking off to the LT or C on those plays and then takes on another rusher or continues to occupy his space to keep any late blitzing LB from running into the backfield.
