This is something I've mentioned, as well. I won't argue Moon in the HoF, but he simply cannot be considered equals to guys like Montana, Elway, etc. They would never have let a 33 point lead get away in a playoff game.
That team was built to score a lot of points, but not necessarily win a lot of games. They could not run a ball control offense to kill clock. Relying on a passing game for everything turned them into a one trick pony.

I don't understand why that offense couldn't have added TEs to the equation and gone 11, 12, 21 or 22 personnel and managed to have some ball control packages mixed into the playbook. I don't believe it's about the "TE type" of the era because look at what Kellen Winslow, Dave Casper and Todd Christensen did way back in the 70's and 80's. You can run or pass out of any of these formations, so why not force the defense to honor the run by using them when sitting on a lead?
