What the hell are you talking about?
Why not the OL coach?Solder, Norwell and Trent Brown didn't happen. Seantrel, a guy who hasn't played meaningfully in 3 years and sucked when he did, happened. Moving Davenport to RT and playing Rankin at LT happened.
I hope you are right but my opinion is O'Brien is the problem.
Why not the OL coach?
What the hell are you talking about?
If Bill O'Brien was only in his second season here, but salvaged a QB many were calling a bust, posted a 26-9 record, and a SB appearance in his first two seasons..
He's just poking at SteelB for calling the podcast an 'article'
I'm also confused at how to read a podcast
If Bill O'Brien was only in his second season here, but salvaged a QB many were calling a bust, posted a 26-9 record, and a SB appearance in his first two seasons.. I wouldn't give a crap if he was shutout in the SB, I'd still be doing backflips over the prospect of our future.
Bill O'Brien is NOT Sean McVay.. can we please let him get to a title game (SB or Conference championship, hell just a big playoff win at this point), before we start comparing him to other coaches who have. Frankly Bill O'Brien hasn't done jack crap in this league other then rally the troops and save his ass a couple of seasons in a mediocre division and then turtle dick in every "big game" during his tenure here.
You know who Bill O'Brien needs to be compared to right now? The likes of Marvin Lewis.. THAT is the coaching tier he's really in right now.
I agree the parts of the team that O'Brien wasn't coaching did pretty well last year.
I consider fixed for Watson to not be sackked 62 times and the run game being much improved. Say Watson being sacked 30-35 times and not having to pull a Houdini just to get a pass off.
It's going to take 2 to 3 new guys to fix the OL. Something like what the Colts did.
What would you consider fixed?
Was the defense that sucked against QB's not named Bortles/Os/Gabbert doing pretty well? How about an undermaned offense that put up 34 in Indy/Killed the Dolphins etc... the offense actually put up points against bad defenses until Fuller went down. Kinda like RAC's defense struggling against good QB's?
I point this out for 2 reasons, 1 Football is a team game. 2. The team overachieved when you take into account talent level vs record.
So now OBrien can't score points if the second WR get hurt?

Every fu@king year, "no depth." The Texans have depth just like every other team.Correct when you have no depth.
Every fu@king year, "no depth." The Texans have depth just like every other team.
To be fair when you only have two people that apparently can catch the ball and one goes down its not hard for the other team to figure out where most of the throws are going to go to. Credit to Watson and Nuk for still being about to complete passes even though the other side knew who he was going to throw to. It got better when Coutee came on board but then he went down to so now we are on what, plan C or is it plan D?
Also yeah the stats for our defense look good but are you really going to say that they were at all good against any top shelf QB? I remember before every game with Brady or Luck or X these boards saying how that QB was going to light us up. Well they did and whom's job, on the field, was it to stop them from doing that?
Well defenses usually don't do well against top shelf QBs. That's why they are top shelf.
Overall, I think the defense was not perfect but easily top 10.
Also the offense was still pretty meh after trading for Thomas. They also had the receiving rookie TEs OBrien didn't use.

Steelers shut Brady down pretty good in their game, KC shut Luck down in their game. If a defense can't stop, or at least slow down, a top shelf QB then you can not call them a successful defense as that is mostly what you will face in playoffs and Super Bowls. I agree on the TEs, the argument could be made that they were needed to block but likewise the argument could be made that two more targets might have allowed Watson to get rid of the ball faster. We'll never know.
I think our defense was good but at the same time I was disappointed. We have invested a lot into the defense and by this point we should have been almost one of those teams that can win on defense alone. The big game where it mattered most, against Philly, the defense lost that game. Offense put up 30 points but the Defense couldn't even slow Foles down. That happens but if we are going to crucify the offense for the Colts game then we need to acknowledge that the only reason we played that game was because the defense didn't do their jobs.
But saying they both need to improve misses the point that the defense was easily above average and the offense sucked. There's a big gap in what improvement they need

Really, so the Texans have a Ingram or Anderson backing up Miller? They have the depth at RB the Pats have?
OBrien wanted Miller and blue
Depends on Foreman if he recovers well enough from his injury.Hopefully this changes
Depends on Foreman if he recovers well enough from his injury.
If he doesn't, then I fully expect another addition to the RB corp.
Hit play while using a stenograph...I'm also confused at how to read a podcast
Hit play while using a stenograph...
Yeah, sad but true.I wouldn't count on Foreman
Touché K dog, touché...Ok but why would I assume everyone has a stenograph and tell them to read a podcast?

Is stenograph like a sonogram? This is one of the great unsolved mysteries of TexansTalk.
Does steelb have a stenograph? Does he think everyone has one? Does he regularly tell people to read articles he's never read?
We may never know.

McNair was pleased with the Texans bouncing back from a slow start to win the AFC South title but the Philadelphia Eagles loss in week 16 still does not sit well with him. The Texans took a late lead in the 4th quarter and the defense could not prevent the Eagles from driving the length of the field for a late second field goal which the Texans ended up dropping the game 32-30.
"Looking back on it," McNair said of the season on SportsRadio610 "One of the things we really have to focus on next year, we were 2-minutes away in Philly, they were backed up on their 10, of getting the second seed in the AFC. We were really that close to being in a better spot than we were and we got to focus and get that done."
McNair also knows the problem spots with the Texans during 2017 season and he knows the fans are aware of what those issues are the with the roster. With offensive line and cornerback clear holes on the roster, McNair sees that the Texans have the resources to address key needs and he is expecting the decision makers in Brian Gaine and Bill O’Brien to make the right calls for an improved team heading into 2019.
"We have more resources this year than we had last year to improve the team," McNair continued. "And we will use all those resources in all the different ways; free agency, the draft, undrafted free agency, throughout the whole season we will look at trades, whatever we can do to get better. Brian Gaine and coach fully embrace that and we will do that to get better."
Houston Texans
Le’Veon Bell calls Houston home in 2019.
The Texans have a Pro Bowl quarterback and receiver in Deshaun Watson and DeAndre Hopkins and a defense that’s led by J.J. Watt. Bell, who didn’t play a down for Pittsburgh in 2018, will elevate Houston’s offense and allow Watt and the defense more time on the sideline while pushing the Colts for the top spot in the AFC South. — Mike Wells

The other 2 lap it up like water.
The Texans had 1 of those TDs because the defense forced a turnover at the Philly 5.
I agree the defense wasn't as good towards the end of the year.

our defense was above average when playing the likes of Case Keenum, Dak Prescott, Josh Allen/ Nathan Peterman, Blake Bortles, and Brock Osweiler. Luck wiped the floor with them 3 times, allowed 400+ yards and 4 TDs to Nick Foles, got torched by Eli Manning somehow, made Jets fans actually start believing in Darnold again, and after a stellar 1st half against Mayfield made him look great in the 2nd half. Our defense feasted off of turnovers this year which is a stat the usually isn't replicated year to year. Our defense was good against the run, but ranked among the bottom against the pass. We got lucky we faced a slew of teams with weak QBs who couldn't expose our defenses biggest weakness, but yea lets ignore that because on paper they seem fine.....
Our offense ranked 11th in PPG, above average not really in the sucky category

Curious if anyone knows the financial implications for the team after Bob Mcnair's passing? I understand that his wife Janice now owns the team and Cal is in charge of daily operations but does anyone know what happens when Janice passes? There's 4 kids, will Cal be the new owner? Is the inheritance split 4 ways? If so, and Cal inherits the team, it seems likely that the team would make up the majority of his inheritance and not leave a lot of liquid funds available to run the team. Is $ set aside in a trust for the operation of the team?
Thinking about it more and I don't think anyone will know how this plays out until it happens (other than the family). It seems like a possibility that Cal may not have the $ to run the team and could have a sense of urgency to get things done while his mom is alive. Just a thought.I'd guess it would depend on how well the kids get along. If they get along well what I would say is they leave the operations to a Cal and he just cuts them a check every year for their part. That's how my mother in law's family handles their farm. Her brother works it and takes out operation cost and his portion then the rest is spilt among the other 3. If they don't get along then Cal might just offer to buy them out and become the sole owner.
All this is assuming that there isn't a will laying out exact instructions and if there is and somebody was saying what's in it they would either be full of crap or breaking the law on lawyer/client confidence. This is just my thoughts based on my experience, maybe Cak can shed some light on it from a legal point of view.
I think I saw a stat during one of the games that the Texans had scored the most points after a turnover?? Maybe it was just against the team they were playing against....not sure.the defense scored several points and also gave the Texans favorable field position all season (#1 starting position according to football outsiders). There were also overtime points scored.
