Just watched the '93 Oilers/Bills game on NFL Network

Man, I started feeling sick all over again. However I am glad I watched it. I never even watched highlights of that game and this was the first glimpse back for me since it happened 15 years ago. I forgot about so much of that game (which was probably a good thing), however hearing the players commentary on what was actually happening was very interesting. Some things I didn't know or remember where how so many off the wall things had to happen for Buffalo to come back. Jeffries dropping that sure TD catch which would have probably ended it late in the 4th was one. The Oilers coaching staff getting ultra conservative at the end of the 4th, going for the tie and not the win (Jeffires ranting about that one in the commentary). He said it sent the wrong message to the team.

There were also bad calls that went Buffalo's way like Beebe stepping out of bounds, coming back in and catching a TD pass, or Givens getting held resulting in the final interception that sealed the deal.

I remember being so p*ssed that they let Buffalo back in the game, that even if they won I had no confidence in them going to Pittsburgh.

Jeffires said that game broke the spirits of that team and franchise. You know that game might not have only broken that franchise, you can probably trace back the ultimate demise of the Houston Oilers to that game. I was living in the Northeast at the time, however I can only imagine how that game must have affected the Houston fan base in general considering how fickle fans can be in Houston. I remember Bud making his stadium demands just a year or 2 later and the response might have been different if 35-3 had never happened.

:bat:

Gosh damn, son of a b****, moth** ****er................ I guess I have a reason to go to the bar tonight...

As if you needed one????

I usually never say the word hate, but I really hate seeing that game replayed so often. :elle:

I'm glad I wasn't an Oiler fan back then (I didn't live in Houston at the time...I was too young to remember any football anyway). I probably would have been suicidal if I were old enough and a big enough fan to watch that.

No doubt in my mind. Bud's antics had gotten old, but 35-3 sealed the deal, IMO. The following year vs. KC didn't help, either.

All I can say is I hate the prevent defense. It should be used only on 3rd and very long situations, basically--no matter what the score is.

I know there were a lot more problems than that, but I still hate the prevent, except after a sack or something and when the down and distance is just screaming for it.

You know, the next year against Kansas City was like the universe saying to me "Yes, that was exactly what you thought it was last year at Buffalo." The Buffalo game was the final straw and the Kansas City game was like confirmation that the it was really over.

Oiler hate eclipsed my Oiler love at that moment (Buffalo). It might have eventually come back around but then KC happened and held it off for a little longer. That turned out to be just long enough for the Oilers to head out the door without much of fight from the rest of us.

Oh, thats just great!!! Throw in the KC loss too and Buddy Ryan's normally aggressive defense goes totally limp bisquit...

Just great!!!

I'm having a crap day, why doesn't somebody bring up the choke job in Denver as well, and mention Glanville & 'Stagger Lee'

:gun:

yeah, I watched this abomination awhile back on NFL Network. And the 3 hour version at that! I should have just taken a golf tee, put it in my belly button, and started slamming away with a ball-peen hammer while chewing on some aluminum foil.

I have no doubt that 35-3 + $60 million X Bud Adams = Titans from Uranus

As a life long fan of the Oilers I will always have that embarassing game tucked some where in the darkness of my mind but atleast the continuing embarassments of that franchise and it's owner is no longer my cross to bear. Isn't it amuzing that some ICOU is saddled with that game and more than likely doesn't have a clue about what a laughing stock that frachise is.

How many winning seasons have the Texans had? .000% ... right. Embarrassing is a pretty large word for you to use considering the franchise you follow .... anyways.

I just remember the pick at the beginning of the second half and thinking there was no way the Bills were coming back. :gun:

Why in the world would someone put themselves through that tragedy? Watching that game is like a bandaid - tear it off, feel the pain, and it's done.

Truthfully... If I'm home and it comes on, I watch it.

I always think that Moon is going to lead us to a TD for the win, instead of a FG to tie the game and send it to OT. Alas, it never happens... :gun:

*sigh*

and then I'm usually in a bad mood for a few days. :gun:

I would rather watch the Texans pull off the upset versus the Colts in '06....or the Texans defeat the Jags in our last game of this season. Watching that debauchery makes me want to kill Frank Reich and our secondary.

I think I actually shed a tear that day. If you think about it, NFL football in this city has never been the same since. 15 fricking years of futility or even no team at all. We finally are just starting to REALLY recover thanks to this new regime and our brighter days ahead (hopefully). Its been a long hard road.

tsk tsk, and empty straw man.

How many championships has your franchise had in several decades? At the end of the day, that's all that matters and it's why they play the game.

So you are actually bragging that the Titans franchise has one 2nd place trophy in more than 6 times as many years as the Texans in the NFL.

See the definition of embarassing again and come see me in 30 years.

Titans futility knows no boundaries...or has any class evidently.

They should be proud of being number one losers for a year, though, because it'll be another four decades before they get another chance.

See, we've had two NFL franchises and we didn't have to steal either one of them. They get our sloppy seconds, so they can have the old hag while we enjoy the building process from the ground up.

And at the end of they day, they're stuck with Bud Adams. :splits:

Titans futility knows no boundaries

Actually, Titans/Oilers futility has very distinct boundaries. It's the 5th most futile franchise in the NFL in terms of winning a championship. And unfortunately, some of us were witness to more of those futile years than the still NFL wet behind the ears Tennessee people.

Oilers/Titans championship futility = Houston's AFL/NFL futility based on league championships. I recognize the AFL because the NFL more than recognized it.

Interesting on all accounts. :hmmm:

The HoF does mention the AFL, so I suppose I should give the fans of the 5th most futile franchise in pro football some leeway on a their CO-championships:

1960 - Houston Oilers (AFL)
1960 - Philadelphia Eagles (NFL)
1961 - Houston Oilers (AFL)
1961 - Green Bay Packers (NFL)

HoF

There is little doubt, however, that both the Eagles and Packers would have whooped the new Houston Oilers like a red-headed stepchild. ;)

This is what I said in the article that goes with that table:

While it’s highly unlikely that the fledgling Oilers or Chargers would have been able to stay on the field for 60 minutes with the 1960 Philadelphia Eagles, budding AFL stars like Ron Mix and Jim Norton were part of the new breed in the AFL and would have starred on any NFL team. And the NFL noticed. It didn’t take long for AFL teams to acquire more talent like Mix and Norton and the rest, as they say, is history.

I will never be able to forget the pain of that day. I saw it come on NFL Network a few months back, I thought about watching it but couldn't even change the station to that channel. I guess I am not ready yet.......

You sound like a bitter ex .... well I guess you are. Others find happiness in what you use to have ... now you have a mediocre team who struggles to finish .500.

Wow you traded an 8 for a 4 but you have your "respect" .... good for you :lion:

But seriously you can stop now. We get it, you can't help but to bring up the Titans anytime the Oilers are mentioned well you can have them and their retarded owner too.

And don't act like you're the end all be all of NFL fans, I'm pretty sure all of us who are over the age of 25 were watching NFL football team play home games in a stadium well before any Nashville resident.

Pretty much the team you inherited is one of the worst football franchise's ever outside of Arizona, and Detroit. You lost a superbowl once almost 10 years ago, whoopty doo. I'm willing to bet that the Texans end up winning a playoff game before the ridiculously run Titans.

Oh hey cool I fed the troll.

b0ng, he is actually from Cali. He just liked the baby blue color scheme.

To be more exact, he's from near the 'Bay area', explaining his love for the 'baby' or 'powder' blue color even more..

Remember those clowns that bum rushed the Catholic Church in San Fransisco? Well, watch the footage again. There is one guy, girl - whatever wearing a 'purdy' shade of 'baby' blue...

:hmmm: someone that posts here???????

Good Lord Almighty . . . why anyone would want to go back relive that nightmare is beyond me.

I have said this many times the past few years whenever someone mentions THAT game, as I believe it with the bottom of my heart, and and I'll believe it until I go to my grave.

If the Oilers had somehow won that game, the Houston Oilers would still exist today. The Tennessee Titans would not even exist. The Houston Texans would not even exist.

THAT game caused me to examine how seriously I watch football altogether.

Looking back at it 15 years later, maybe that's good thing.

I actually remember being real nervous at halftime thinking we have the kind of team that would blow the lead...but I felt better immediately as the 3rd quarter started and we picked up where we left off. Sadly, it was temporary insanity.

You sound hopelessly delusional. 46 years dude, 46 freakin' years that your franchise has been wallowing in futility. :gun:

I suppose that kind of epic futility would breed it's fair share of bitterness, which makes you an expert on the subject. Good luck with all of that.

The NFL recognizes them as the same franchise. If you're still butt hurt that you gave up on your franchise and let it move to another city and it has forced you to forget the facts I am sorry .... time to accept it.

Talk about 'Butt hurt'??.. Geez, yours must be killing you. What, with your head up it and all that talkin you're doing out of it... :whip:

I was a freshman in H.S when the "game" happened. The following year the coaches made us watch the tape before games to make sure we played all 4 quarters...brutal...but it worked I think we lost one game that season.

I was just making sure he understood they are the same team. Someone who just became a fan of the team may not be aware.

Alright Tack Fan, time for a history lesson.

We never gave up on the Oilers, that's not why they left.

Bud went to the city wanting his own stadium. Reasonable request in my opinion considering he was leasing an outdated baseball stadium woefully inadaquate for pro football, and all monies went to Drayton Mclain.

Bud's numbers said that the Oilers had sold out the Astrodome for 10 years (up for debate considering radio and TV stations bought out the remaining tickets.)

The City of Houston was sick of a weasel like Bud and said no way. And Bud said he'd take his team elsewhere.

The Oilers were a lame duck team for 1 1/2 years while they finished the Astrodome lease.

The lack of fan support that you saw while believing everything ESPN says was near the end of that 1 1/2 years knowing they were gone.

This had nothing to do with fan support, and everything to do with A$$hole Bud Adams.

The moment the Oilers became the Titans, the Oilers ceased to exist.

The Titans can't lay claim to Earl, Luv ya Blue and unfortunately not even 35-3.

Ya'll have to live with "1 yard short!" That's Titan History.

Nice try, but I aint buying it...

It must be that time or close to that time of the year... I see you pulling that same ol crap about not supporting the Oilers, blah, blah, blah and that 'we' (then Houston Oiler fans) collectively let them move away to another city, blah, blah, blah... :blah: :blah: :blah:

You know better than to spread those lies.. tell the truth for a change.

So please... for all our sake, come back when you have some NEW off-season material.
