Greg Roman, Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator
The 48-year-old Roman has drawn rave reviews for adapting the Ravens’ offense to Lamar Jackson’s skill-set with the pistol offense and turning Jackson into the one of the league’s best quarterbacks. Roman, who is in his fourth season with the Ravens and second as offensive coordinator, had similar success with the 49ers, getting the most out of Colin Kaepernick when San Francisco made it to the Super Bowl in the 2012 season. Roman was the Texans’ tight ends and quarterbacks coach under Dom Capers from 2002 to 2005.
Brian Daboll, Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator
The 45-year-old Daboll certainly has had some great mentors, winning five Super Bowls in his 11 seasons under Bill Belichick as a Patriots offensive assistant and then a college football national title in his one season as Alabama co-offensive coordinator under Nick Saban. After that Alabama title, Daboll to the job as the Bills’ offensive coordinator and has put together one of the NFL’s strongest offenses, including turning Josh Allen into legitimately impressive quarterback.
And a possible sleeper...
Lincoln Riley, University of Oklahoma head coach
The Sooners are off to a 1-2 start this season, but the 37-year-old Riley is thought to be the top offensive mind in college football. He’s taken Oklahoma to the College Football Playoff in each of his three seasons as head coach and has success with quarterbacks Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray and Jalen Hurts. Riley was linked to the Dallas Cowboys job last offseason before the Cowboys went with Mike McCarthy.
