DeMeco vs. rookies past...
With two games left to play, rookie LB DeMeco Ryans has a chance to finish the season with more tackles than any rookie in the last 20 years. Jonathan Vilma of the Jets recorded 105 total stops en route to winning Rookie of the Year honors in 2004, and Chicagos Brian Urlacher had 123 total stops to win Rookie of the Year in 2000. Miami LB Zach Thomas had 154 tackles and Baltimore LB Ray Lewis had 110 stops as rookies in 1996. Denver S Steve Atwater recorded 129 tackles in 1989, and Detroit LB Chris Spielman had 153 as a rookie in 1988.
Ryans already has more tackles and more solo tackles than any of the last five linebackers who won AP Defensive Rookie of the Year honors recorded in a full season. In fact, Ryans tackle total this season is greater than each of those players totals this year as well.
